Houston and Hill Country Best Sausage

Just an update, made a trip to the Southside Market on the strength of their reputation. I have to say I had better just a few days earlier at the Salt Lick. Neither even in the same league as Kaspars IMOP. Southside is pretty much like other commercial sausage, tastes like a meat product rather than cured or smoked meat in a casing.

Houston and Hill Country Best Sausage

Just for balance. I havent tried Elgins (but have made a note to do so), but have eaten sausage at quite a few BBQ joints in Texas and elsewhere, and bought sausage wherever I've lived in the US, make my own, and havent had anything close to Kaspars. My folks are from that area and I can say that the quality and taste over was the same the last time I bought there (2008) as when I remember my dad getting sausage there (probably late 50s) That kind of tradition is remarkable IMOP.

groceries in Arvada/Westminister

Thanks for the suggestions....

groceries in Arvada/Westminister

Soon moving to Denver, Arvada/Westminister area. Where I live now I know the best place to buy produce (Asian), meat (hispanic, costco), specialty (Wegmans, Trader Joes), budget, spices (penzeys). Can residents in that area advise me on where to look for their favorites in these kinds of categories? Thanks

bbq supplies?

Awesome, thank you

bbq supplies?

With the loss of bbq Galore I'm having a hard time finding another bbq supply place for different kinds of grilling and bbq supplies...any suggestions in the greater dc area?

Full Kee Question

Thank you all for the insight, my dinner date fell through yesterday, but I plan to go myself tonight..

Full Kee Question

I'm going to the Full Kee at Baileys for the first time and wondered at the size of servings, are noodle soups like shrimp dumpling and casseroles like Oyster Casseroles one person meals or meant to be share by two....average appetites...thanks

Weimar Sausage

I've only had breakfast at Franks...its hard to mess up eggs and they did have good bohemian sausage to go with it.

Houston bests?

I was back in Houston for the first time in 20 years this spring and stopped at Pizzitola's at 1703 Shepard Drive. It's a real hole-in-the-wall from the outside, but a real classic inside. I had the brisket sausage sandwich and it and the sides were very good. If you type in "Pizzitola in Houston" on your browser it should bring up a Houston Chronicle review.

Weimar Sausage

I looked up the addresses using the yellow pages and mapquest...Kaspars and Susies (sauasage and kolaches) in Weimar is on East Post Office Street (which is one block north of the interstate) between Mechanic St and N. Center. As one post said, there's not much town to it. The kolache place in Schulenberg is on hwy 77 south of the interstate as noted below. None of these are real breakfast places although I believe at the Kountry Kitchen there are a few tables and kolaches and klobase (sausage in a blanket) and coffee make a good snack. For nearby breakfast in Schulenberg try Franks or the Oakridge Smokehouse which are just off the interstate to the south and north respectively on Hwy 77...

Weimar Sausage

I may be getting the name wrong...the kolache place in Schulenberg that I am thinking about is right across the street from the City Market (sausages, weiners). I've been lucky a couple of times and got there early in the morning probably between 6 and 7 am when the kolaches were coming out of the oven....ummm

Weimar Sausage

I read with interest the posts about the great sausage that is made in Texas. My folks on my mother's side came from the Amannsville area, which is between LaGrange and Schulenberg. One of my earliest memories is stopping to get kolaches and sausage at Schulenberg (Kountry Kitchen and City Market) and Weimar (Susies and Kaspars).

A real find for you folks that like sausage though is Kaspar's. I've not seen it mentioned on this site and they make the best beef, pork or beef/pork sausage I've ever had. I just wished that they were into the mail order business...Anyway I would love to hear from anyone who tries Kaspars out. Dobrou Chut'
