Dinner Rec = Cocktails/Food/Atmosphere?
Can anyone help me out with a "fun" dinner recommendation for 2 couples - is there any place that has good cocktails AND food AND atmosphere that isn't too expensive (meaning like no entrees over $20)? I don't need the gourmand place of the year, but just don't want to be disappointed by the food either. I guess Mexican restaurants usually fit this bill, but they usually lack in one of the categories. (But I am not wedded to Mexican either!)
As for location, I'd prefer W. Hollywood/Hollywood/Los Feliz/Silverlake or even downtown.... (though if you have the ideal spot in another part of town, pls chime in).
Thanks!
Best butcher and fishmonger near Bethesda/Friendship Heights Metro?
There is a good fish store called A&H on Bethesda Ave. next to the Bethesda Crab House. Lots of good Portuguese products too.

Not a cake, but Krispy Kreme has adorable pumpkin donuts.

Joxer Daley's in Culver City--Saints Football, Food?
It's also a huge Redskins bar. And I don't remember anything special about the bar food.
Cheap Wine Bar?
Lou Wine Bar in Hollywood has Tuesday night flights for $14. And Silverlake Wine does a few different tastings a week for even less than that.
Salute in Santa Monica has a daily happy hour from 5:30-7:30.

Help for an out of towner!
Malibu: Malibu Fish & Seafood
West Hollywood: 8 oz. or Village Idiot for casual food, Angeli for something nicer
Hollywood: Hungry Cat
Silverlake: Blair's
New job in Burbank - where's the food?
I really like the Paradise Juice & Deli on Riverside. Really fresh sandwiches on lavash bread - they even seem healthy too, though who knows these days, it's probably dipped in butter. (Ha ha.) They have smoothies too, though I've never tried one. Very homey, friendly and inexpensive.
Mo's has a great chopped salad.
lounge/bar near hollywood
For an upscale pub try The Village Idiot on Melrose & Martel. For a dimly-lit yet laid back Hollywood bar that isn't too *Hollywood*, there's The Well on Sunset & Argyle.
mini cupcakes like those at Leda's Bake Shop
The minis at SusieCakes in Brentwood are good. Red velvet, chocolate mint....
Best 'Dinner Rolls' in Los Angeles?
I had the same question. See this previous thread here:

Cakes??
If you really want to try something different, you could go to one of the many Korean bakeries....Paris Baguette has a really beautiful selection of cakes. There's also a very no-frills Latin American bakery on I believe Normandie & 3rd called Continental. Their tres leches cake is supposed to be good, though I haven't had it.
Also Phoenix Bakery in Chinatown -they're always mobbed so they must be doing something right!
where to get panko bread crumbs?
Actually Von's on Sunset & Virgil didn't have them - they had a Progresso branded panko, but I wanted an Asian brand. Maybe I needed to look in the Asian foods section, though.
But thanks to all who responded. I did find them (many brands in fact) at the California Market on Western & 5th, which is a great Korean grocery store, by the way.
Westside Happy Hour - that goes until 8pm?
Looking for an after-work happy hour on the westside that goes at least until 8pm - want to arrange a gathering and realize many people can't get out of work in time to make it before 7pm.
Only requirements: westside as in W. Hollywood, Brentwood, Westwood, Beverly Hills, W. LA … not as far as the beach. Something with atmosphere and food and drink specials would be ideal.
P.S. I understand Chaya Brasserie has a great one, but they can't confirm at this point whether or not they'll be rented for a holiday party and I need to let people know in advance.
Thanks!
where to get panko bread crumbs?
Any recommendations on the east side - Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake? Or do I have to go to a Japanese specialty store in Little Toyko or Sawtelle?
Dairy-free Bakery in OC
There is a place called the Sensitive Baker in Culver City. I think they accomodate any allergy or dietary requirement.
overrated/over hyped?
To clarify (sorry, it's taken me awhile - been busy), I guess I meant there are these places that people in LA rave about and/or wait in long lines and/or are perenially popular, but then I hear just as many people trash them. So I was just curious which ones are really good and which are just inexplicable hype.
overrated/over hyped?
What do you think are some regularly overrated places in LA? Of course Pinkberry comes to mind, but maybe also Pink's?
Date place in Silverlake/Los Feliz area?
I think the Figaro Cafe on Vermont is nice & romantic. It looks like a French brasserie. Also reliably good... Kitchen, Alcove and Cobras & Matador.
Eating at the Bar in Silver Lake or Los Feliz
I think Cafe Figaro on Vermont has a very warm, charming setting - and there's a bar to eat/drink at.
Cooking Classes - Washington DC
In Bethesda, but L'Academie de Cuisine is the best cooking school in the area.
good sommelier in LA
It's more that I'm trying to find out about the job of sommelier for something I'm working on -- that's why I'd like to talk to someone who's nice and helpful and would be willing to share a few insights.
good sommelier in LA
Can anyone recommend a well-known/respected/expert sommelier in LA? Could be anywhere, but preferably in a nice restaurant. If you know they are nice as well and would be willing to answer a few questions, even better. Thanks!
