Jfood Tries Michele's Pies in Norwalk

My wife picked up the small blueberry pie yesterday. The filling was very good with lots of flavor. The crust (not crumb) was also very good. The small pie will provide 2-3 servings. I hope they are successful. This area needs a good bakery.

Stamford Town Center - New Chains Open

We went to Chang's on Sunday. The food was all tasteless and overpriced. We had Crab Wonton app ($7), Chang's Chicken entree ($13) and Sweet/Sour Chicken entree ($12). The dining room is nice and service is good. This was our first and last visit to Chang's. As far as "snob appeal" (Zobot), I don't get it. That's like saying going to Pizza Hut carries some amount of snob appeal.

Street Fairs

I always enjoyed Bastille Day occurring around mid-July. This was a relatively small fair with good entertainment and a selection of vendors not generally found at the other street fairs. I don't see it on the list for this season. Maybe it will return next year.

Blueberry Price

I have a Costco near me that sells frozen wild blueberries @ $6/3#. The brand is Wyman's. They are grown & pkg in Me. and available year round. The quality is good. I pour the frozen bb into a bowl, sprinkle with sugar, add cereal (no milk) and microwave for a few seconds.

Pancakes-browning failure

I checked the Calphalon website for the cast iron griddle and found only non-stick aluminum products. Maybe you have an old griddle that is no longer in production. I think a seasoned cast iron surface will give me the results that I am looking for. I believe the non-stick surface is the problem. I wonder if there is a way to season a non-stick surface!

Pancakes-browning failure

I am unable to produce pancakes with that irregular patterned browned look that you will get from an old-fashioned griddle that doesn't have a non-stick surface. Not only is the appearance affected but also the taste and texture of the pancake as well.
I am using a new non-stick griddle to make the pancakes. The griddle is set at 350 deg F (water droplets will sizzle and bounce), then lightly grease the griddle w/butter and add the pancake mix. The results are a uniform bland light beige look.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Update on Bub Sweatman's BBQ

I went to Dukes in Walterboro, SC about 4yrs ago and it was all great, especially the fried chicken & slaw. I always looked forward to going back there when I traveled by on I-95.
However, I was at Duke's (2) weeks ago and was disappointed. Chicken was very greasy & rest of food was just average. I was told by the person at the register that all the Duke's have been sold & all are now independently owned. Apparently there were other Duke's in the South all owned by the same family.
