2 nights in PHL... The best the city has to offer... Where should we go?

Here's the deal...My wife & I are in PHL from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Our culinary tastes are very broad, so I'm looking for suggestions for dinner for 2 nights. We r not limited by budget constraints, but I do not want to wear a jacket & tie. i actually prefer restaurants that I can go in shorts & a collared shirt.

I'll put on pants if I must!!!

I've been to Valanni, Buddhakan & Morimoto. I enjoyed Mori & Valanni both equally based on the food and keeping in mind the different price points.

Any new ideas? Heard Little Fish is good, but I cant get a rez for Sat. nite. If it helps, the only food I don't want is typical Chinese (live in NYC..get it all the time), middle eastern cuisine or old world Italian.

Please, please, please bombard me with some names of places that really knock your socks off. Thx!!!!

NEWPORT, RI dining

food was decent... basically family style italian. yes..freakish is correct, but to be PC i think the term is eclectic... :)

U have to go with friends..it will make it more enjoyable. Be prepared to get a little messy, since the food is served family style on one giant platter.

Worth a try at least once....

Bad experience at La Flor

La Flor is one of my favorite places!!! NEVER EVER HESITATE TO RETURN AN ITEM... Just make sure Viko the owner is there. If he is not, then it kinda falls on deaf ears...Viko takes his customers' comments fairly serious.

Taco truck in Sunnyside

SO...my buddy from florida who LOVES mexican street food (Ala Tony Bourdain) say the taco truck on 46th street was very good for the money! He has managed to consume 2 bistec and 2 chrizo tacos in a matter of minutes. He is a fan of spicy (But tasty! anybody can make it hot, has to be good) and said the sauce was quite nice...not overwhelmingly hot

Sapori is great.... Well worth the money!!!! The restaurant is set in an italian store, so dont e surprised if u can do your gorcery shopping while eating!!!

Dazies should be burned to the ground...Probably the worst service, and the food is not worthy of the $$$

Oh one other thing...

this sounds crazy but... If you take the Q60 or Q32 on a weekend morning into manhattan, go down 2nd avenue to 56 or 55 th street, u will find a 24 hour bagel place on the east side of the avenue.

they have some of the best bagels in NYC (Forget H+H) and it takes maybe 20 minutes at most on a saturday or sunday morning..Something to ponder...

P.S. Donovan's Pub on 57th(?) & Roosevelt...Best burger in NYC..1/2 price beer and burgers on monday night... (go check it out..trust me.)

Snarls...welcome to the neighborhood!!!

Here's my quick rundown...

BLISS on 46st & skillman..(American food..New chef, nice garden, one of a handful of decent sitdown restaurants for the area..Give it a shot. Dorothy, the owner is nice)
QUAINT on skillman btwn 46 & 47...(American Bistro fare.. This restaurant is run much better. Tom the restaurant owner has many years of experience in the bizness, so his wine list, food and overall vibe of the place is better)
MEDITERRANEO on QB btwn 46 & 47 is decent for pizza and Italian takeout( No frutti del mare, just your usual italian pizza joint fare)
ARRIYOSHI on QB near 41st(?) is better Japanese than OKI. (Also cleaner)
CHIPS might be good mexican. (Their food was great when they opened, then declined in quality over time; not sure now)
LA FLOR on roosevelt & 51(?) is a much better choice. (Nouveau Mexican, but the food is great, the wine is decent for the $$ and VIKO the owner is a fantastic guy... If he is there tell him "CHINO" sent you!)

TEN FULL (39st & 47th ave?) has decent chinese considering we r not in chinatown..

STAY AWAY FROM NY EATS...THE FOOD IS SIMPLE DINER FOOD, BUT YET THE SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS.. (ALSO THE DELIVERY IS THE WORST)

A much better alternative (especially for breakfast or lunch) is a diner on Northern Blvd..Cant remember the name, but it is right next door to the SUNOCO gas station, and across the street from Home Depot. OUTSTANDING!!! Its simply a diner that has been there for 40+ years.

Hope this helps! Email me if u have questions... Hope to see u in the neighborhood!

burgers, burgers everywhere burgers!

SO..what do u mean by high end burger & bar?? Mcsorleys is not high end.... Burger joint is not a bar, and their teny weeny burgers dont really cut it.

Have u been to Donovan's Pub in Queens? (57 st & Roosevelt) Fantastic burger (big, juicy, fresh)..It is an Irish pub with a rather large dining room that has fantastic burgers...Way better than burger joint, corner bistro, good burger, rare, (shall i go on?) Did I mention that u can get beer, wine, booze, etc..(being a bar and all)

If u just want a decent burger (go to the bar afterwards) go to Big Nicks on B'way...Not the prettiest place, but decent for the money).

IMO what makes a wonderful burger is the freshness of the meat, the nice fat content, and the wonderful sear on the outside. Alot of places overcook the outside (they claim its to sear in the juice) so while juicy inside, its kinda "crusty" outside..Not my favorite way to eat a burger...

Help! Need a bday dinner place next Friday for 10 people around 8pm in LES.

We were there Saturday.... THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!! 20 minutes for eith glasses of water!!! I finally helped myself!!!! There were eight of us and only half the dishes came out... It took almost 2 hours for dinner!!!! The food is great, but they have no idea how to handle when its crowded.

I also noticed that the tables that were fille dwith asian folk were definitely waited on better than the non asian folk. BTW I am asian so forget about crying racism... Bottom line is DONT GO THERE IF U WANT A GOOD TIME!!!!!!!

How bout Suba? Spanish place in th eLES...BTW..u didnt mention budget???

NEWPORT, RI dining

I will be in Newport from late friday eve to sunday afternoon.
I have 2 questions that maybe somone can answer.

1. Any late night dining options? (Not Brick Alley Pub)
2. I need a fantastic restaurant for Saturday evening that wont require Jacket and tie nor will take 3 hours to get through dinner.

The last time I was there, my wife and I went to Salvation Cafe (not too shabby, though service could be better), Elizabeth's Newport Cafe (bring friends! man is there alot of food), good ol' Handy Lunch, and some place for breakfast between Middletown and Newport that had a phenominal breakfast menu (Various fresh fruit Pancakes, gigantic omelettes and the best "local neighborhood" feel.

Any pointers would be appreciated...
