second guessing my choice Ft Laud...help?

As a solo diner I would definitely go to Mortarano's on Oakland. This is the best Italian food and probably the best food I've ever had. The bar is fun and the restaurant entertaining. Trust me on this one you will not be disappointed and you will not feel out of place being alone as I think you would at Casa d'angelo. Check out their website at www.cafemartorano.com. I'll be there myself on Thursday night with friends. I can taste the food now. Have fun!

Christine's

If you haven't tried Christine's yet you should. I love this place. Great food, service, atmoshpere. It's the total package. Located on Oakland, it's the best kept secret in Ft. Lauderdale. Try it and let me know what you think.

Finally got to enjoy this new restaurant. Yes, food was great but they do have some problems to work out. We had reservations for 7:30 but arrived around 6:30 to enjoy the atmosphere of the bar and have a drink. Our wait person was not familar with the wine list and each wine I asked about he kept saying "well it's just in what you like". I was asking about a really dry crisp white wine to have before our dinner. Finally he asked the bartendar and a nice wine was delivered. Service was not what I expected during dinner It was slow and choppy. They kept apologizing for the lack of service and admitted to having problems. I had the lobster bisque which was just okay. We had the calamari for the table which was excellent. Two people had the wedge salad which was also good. For an entree I had the Hawaiian Opah and it too was excellent. Others had the sea bass, salmon the the veal chop. All entrees were exceptional. For dessert we shared the chocolate molten cake. We ordered a bottle of really good red wine, a pinot noir priced around $240. After waiting for the wine to arrive (20 minutes) they came to take our order. When we inquired about the wine they said it was not available and they were going to suggest something else. We told them we would like to see the wine list again and choose our on wine. As we were deciding someone came over and said if we would pick a wine similar in price they would comp it. So, how can you be critical when they offer to do that. We choice an Opus One 2004 which was a very good wine. Although service was not what it should be they realize this and I believe it will be a priority. I will definitely go back here and soon. The bar area was busy and I think this is going to be a great addition to the Ft. Lauderdale upscale dining scene. Give this restaurant a few more weeks to work out the problems and it will be the place to be.

Fort Lauderdale Brunch

The River House is excellent. We have been many times. If you go make a reservation for outside. Here is the web address. http://www.ftlauderdaleriverhouse.com/
We also enjoy Blue Moon and there are many choices other than fish and seafood. You can't go wrong with either place. I also read that Pier 66 has started a Sunday brunch at the top of the hotel. Might be worth checking out.

Went by there yesterday. They are not opening to the public until tomorrow (Friday) night. The restaurant is beautiful. Nothing like it in Ft. Lauderdale. I can't wait to experience it. If the food is 1/2 as spectacular as the restaurant they are going to be a HIT!

Good place for small birthday celebration in Ft. Lauderdale???

Start at the Samba Room for happy hour and have the mojitos (the best I've had in Ft. Lauderdale) then walk across to Timpano's. Their menu is varied with all price points. Definitely have the mussels. Delish! You can make a meal out of a salad and appertizers here. The flat bread is also very good. They have live jazz several nights a week and it's always lively and fun. This is where I go for a girl's night out. Have fun!

Uno Mas, Mt. Pleasant, SC

Any chowhounders tried this restaurant? It is owned by the same folks that own Mustard Seed, Blvd. Diner and several others which are all very good. I'm thinking of going Friday night but would love to hear from someone who's been. Thanks is advance.

Restaurants in the Middle Keys near Hawks Cay

We just got back yesterday from Hawy's Cay. Try the Hideaway Cafe (hideawaycafe.com)located about 3 miles from resort. It was the best meal we had in the keys. Right on the water. The service was excellent also. We had dinner one night at Water's Edge at Hawks Cay. Did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Try the snapper. Service here was also very good. Went to Island Tiki Bar for lunch one day and the appertizers were very good. Didn't try anything else. Have fun!

Islamorada & Marathon

We are staying at Hawkscay Marina next week and will have a car. Any suggestions for great lunch places on the water at either place. Yellowtail snapper is a must. Also recommendations on happy hour and sunset watching.

ROOFTOP IN CHARLESTON

Does the Vendue Inn rooftop have a pool like the Market Pavilion? I don't recall ever seeing one.
