Mike at My Butcher in Annapolis is worth a zip car! Get on his email list - he sends specials and coupons once a week - and you can plan your drive east.
Food Suggestions In Cambridge, MD
Kay's Country Kitchen at the Cambridge airport. Do not miss. Great home "country kitchen" food looking out over tarmac at small commuter-type airplanes. Every age in the family loves it. Look for the airport. (Cambridge airport, not the Easton airport.) Here is the street address for your GPS; it is just one turn off of Rte 50 but the main thing is - it's at the airport.

I definitely think PJ Clarke's fits the bill.
Crab Boil???
Thanks Silverjay! I am a frequent NYC visitor but read the Chowhound Manhattan board from my
lil ole home in Maryland. I looked at the title of this thread and thought, what the hay is a boiled crab? ;-)
Butcher Class?
Mike aka My Butcher is great and so is his store. I am glad to see others pointing out his business. He is so community minded . . . and he LOVES meat. Sign up for his e-newsletter.
PS I have posted about him before - but I am a customer, not his shill. ;-)

Full service butcher in Baltimore?
Sorry, don't have a Baltimore recommendation but come on down to Naptown (Annapolis) and do all your butcher shopping at My Butcher and More . . . you can also grab a deeeelicious deli sandwich to sate you for your trip back north. Call Mike (My Butcher) ahead of time and he will make sure to have everything you want in stock. He is awesome (and I have NO self-interest in his business!).

Soft shell crab club sandwich?
The soft-shell is the blue crab in its molted state. Or another way to say it - they have to shed or peel their shells to grow bigger. And then they get a new shell. The molting process means soft crabs from late spring to early fall, with May through September ranking as the most productive months. They are available frozen year round.
The fresh ones on the East Coast might start showing up in April.

Grass-fed beef/pork etc
Oh, everyone, definitely go to My Butcher and More. No longer at the address listed earlier in this string, he's now in Annapolis. He is terrific.
Here's a blogger report on a grass-fed beef class at My Butcher featuring St. Brigid's Farm on the Eastern Shore.

His deli sandwiches are great so go even if you are not buying raw meat!
Cream of Crab Soup-Anne Arundel County
Where - in Anne Arundel County - is your favorite cream of crab soup served? My BFF is coming up from Florida and I'm taking her on a tasting tour for CREAM of CRAB SOUP in ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY only.
I see Ports of Call won the prize at last month's Seafood Festival and was written up in the Capital. I love Sunset's in Glen Burnie. My BFF was wowed by Wharfside Inn in Davidsonville last year.
I'm drawing my geographic boundary at Anne Arundel County but that should still leave you lots of possibilities.
THANKS!
As an aside, here is how I grade restaurants on how they serve cream of crab:
As a matter of course, they bring the side of sherry when bringing you the soup: A+
You ask for the side of sherry when they bring the soup and they say, "right away" : A-
They look at you quizzically when you ask for the sherry but then go get it: B
They tell you that the soup already has sherry in it: C
They go to the bar, find some sherry, and charge you for a shot: D
Campanile-Closed Sats./Need Similar Suggestions
Chowhounds, before I even dreamt of asking for your specific help, I scour these boards. So I have done my research. (I visit NYC half-dozen times a year and lurk on the boards often.)
I'm bringing my 79-year-old mom to town next weekend and had decided that all the posts about Campanile made it the ideal choice for our Saturday supper. I was shocked when I called for reservations and was told that "due to the economy," they no longer are open on Saturdays. :-(
Talk about best laid plans . . . .
It will be an early Saturday evening meal (6:30) for four: 79-year old and two 20 year-olds (and me in between!). Keeping in mind that the participants do not have to be bowled over by foodie-perfect meals (eating in NYC is exciting enough) and that Campanile was right what I wanted, here are some parameters and my new ideas culled from the boards:
(1) Most important, NOT loud/noisy
(2) Greater Murray Hill area
(3) Fish or vegetarian options (I eat meat tho)
(4) Entrees at $18-$25 level
(5) Oh yeah, open on Saturday evenings!
Thinking about:
(1) Cosette
(2) Casaville
(3) Resto
Let me have your feedback PLEASE on these restaurants or other ideas.

Advice on Food Itinerary
PIZZA
I stored this tidbit from the messageboards some time ago. I am sorry I do not know to whom to attribute its authorship. (If you wrote it and are reading this, thanks!!) I kept it because it is a perfect explanation of NY pizza to me (a frequent visitor).
""My suggestion about the pizza is to do two things. First, avoid anything that's a chain or the size of a chain (Ray-Bari, etc.). Second, don't obsess. The more you worry about getting 'real NY pizza' the more disappointed you'll be when you take your first bite and say 'well, it's very good... but I thought my mouth would explode.' Hype kills everything. Find some local joints for a slice while you're walking between museums or sights or whatever you're doing. Sample them. Have a slice here and a slice there. And then some more at that place. You'll leave knowing that real NY pizza is an amalgam of all these pizza experiences coalescing into one great memory. Half of NY pizza is the attitude you have while eating it. Pizza is not a tourist food. Real NYers eat pizza. Tourists eat 'NY pizza'."

Where did you have the most unusual meat in Manhattan.
My husband ordered bone marrow at Crispo. I will never forget the platter of, well, apparently dinosaur bones that was brought out. He and a companion found it scrumptious. I, while somewhat repulsed by the concept, could not stop laughing at the image as they went at the bones. I feel I will ever carry a little flashback to my husband as Fred Flinstone.
PS Everything everyone had that night was terrific. Thank you Chowhounds!

Grace's Fortune is the absolute best Chinese food. It is a beautiful restaurant inside with excellent service. It is very deceiving. You would not go in unless someone told you to - nothing wrong, just very plain looking. But take a step inside . . .
Located in the strip mall at Superior Lane and 450 in Bowie (15500 Annapolis Rd).
