Restaurant advice for a young couple

I concur completely with avoiding Spiaggia. It is way overpriced. I would also recommend L2o. Outstanding food and service.

I would also recommend Tru, and visit North Pond for the ambience more than the food, not that the food is bad, but the atmosphere of North Pond is a very peaceful.

Philly Cheese Steaks

Nxtasy, I still say you must admit, although it is hard for you, that mozzarella is never associated with a cheesesteak. EVER.

Philly Cheese Steaks

WRONG. I lived in Philly, and the usual choice of cheese is Cheese Wiz, which is 90% of the cheese ordered. Rarely provolone or american, but NEVER mozzarella.

And as I have said before, none of those beef stands remotely compares to any of the top 10 IB stands in the Chicago area. Thank God we live in Chicago and not Philly when it comes to beef sammies.

Good Cheap Mexican Food on North Clark Street from Andersonville to Rogers Park

I agree completely. Terrible service, and VERY salty food. You can do much better . Prices are low, but you get what you pay for.

Casual Seafood in Naples?

Randy's is also fun with very fresh seafood. Wear your shorts and flip flops.

Looking for a great cupcake place in Chicago!

I disagree. I have never had anthing but the BEST cupcakes ever.

Looking for Restaurants near Argonne National Lab

I would go down to LaDolce Vita in downtown Lemont. No reservations, but good solid Italian food. If you have a long wait, go across the street to Tom's Place. It's walk back in time. An old fashoned taveren with very cheap prices. Walk back to the private room to enjoy your drinks. They have Blatz beer on tap, but I would pass on that. Nasty.

Landing @ O'Hare Need Advice

There are lots of threads from O'Hare on this topic. Just do searches on your interests. You also need to say where you are staying to make any reasonable rec's.

New York pizza in chicago??

Maybe I just don't get what good NY pizza is about. I have eaten at Grimaldi's, and thought it was very dry, and lacking taste. It was mostly crust, with hardly any toppings.

Oakbrook (Oak Brook) Shopping Center - Super Specific for the Locals

You're comments on the Reel Club are spot on. The food is ok at best. I agree, it's overpriced and disappointing. I like J Alexanders, just north of the mall . Solid american food, nice space. Nothing with a "wow" factor, just well executed food. I've never been disappointed there on any meal.

Best Italian Beef?

I agree with the rec on portillo's. I don't know if it is the "best" but it is very good. The only negative for some could be it is a bit smaller than other places. Not really small, but not huge. A nice size for most.

And yes, they are much cleaner than many of the mom and pop joints.

Home Run Pizza

The only thing I think of HRI pizza is SALT. I think it is the saltiest pizza ever. Am I the only one who thinks this? The frozen ones are worse that the ones in the restaurants. Just my opinion.

Deep Dish (not stuffed) near Midway?

Connie's is 17 minutes from Midway according to Mapquest. Less than 10 miles. Straight up Cicerco to Archer Ave, and turn right. Lou Malnati's is farther.

I also agree, Connies is MUCH better than Giordano's.

If you absolutely HAD to eat at Maggiano's (The Grove)....

Magianno's is a big step above OG if you know what to order. I have found the appetizers and salads to be quite good. It is not a great Italian restaurant, but is a whole lot better dining experience than many family joints.

Oh, Go Cubs, Go Cubs. Remember, the southside is the southside. And, remember to use spell check.

McDonalds quarter pounder vs. double cheeseburger

Am I the only one who thinks that MC'D's double cheeseburgers taste mostly like salt? I used to enjoy one on occasion, but cannot eat one now because of the heavy salt flavor. Maybe it's my location though.

Best Burger in Loop area?

I agree, Hackney's is much better than Blackies. Blackies tastes of frozen variety with loads of salt.

"Mom and Pop" Italian Restaurant

Food is a matter of OPINION and TASTE isn't it? I agree that Francesca's is a very good option. Sedonarealtor didn't say the best, just a place with great food, in which I agree with Chew on That.
I have never had bad meal at any of the Francesca's in ten years.

Rock Bottom?

I agree on the Billy Goat being awful, but also feel that Blackies is poor. The few times I've had a burger there all I could taste was salt. Yukk. The best part of the burger meal is the cole slaw, which I believe is from Carsons.

Deep Dish

I would also agree about your assesment of Giordano's. It is NOT in the same league with the others mentioned. Cheap ingredients, tasteless. Stick with Malnati's, Gino's and Pizano's.

Even though the above mentioned pan pizzas ARE similar in style and construction, they are NOT in taste. That is why people have their favorites and do not like the other nearly as well.

Lou Malnati's Lincolnwood?

It sure does taste different. It is the crust. I think it has to do with the old pans. I once picked up a pie from a carryout location in Naperville, and it didn't even taste like Lou's. It was right after the location opened.

I also believe the pans were why Due's pies were what they were. No more, the pans have been replaced.

Frontera, Caf.Spiaggia or Chic.Pizza/Oven Grinder?

I am also in agreement that LA has Mexican food on a par with Frontera/Topolobamo. There seems to be many people, while not all, who believe that Frontera/Topolobamo are not up the their standards of a couple of years ago.

I concur with going to Cafe Spiaggia. You will not be disappointed.

Cinco de Mayo dinner?

I live on the far southside, and Joliet is only about a 15 minute drive once on I-80. If I were you, I would go to Amanrcer Tapatio. Great food, very authenic. It would take you at LEAST at least an extra 45 minutes to get to downtown Chicago and find a place to park. Frontera Grill and Topolbambo have slipped some in the last year or so. Read recent posts to comfirm. Save time and have a much better, and, less expensive meal. I must thank Mugs for the tip.

Orchestra Hall - casual

Opsy is the best option for sushi in that area, and is certainly within walking distance of Orchestra Hall. The initial post only indicated within walking distance, not necessarily within a couple of blocks.

Palmer House Hilton this Saturday

I would be CAREFUL of Vivere. It is tourist place, and the food is overpriced and not the quality that you are paying for. I would agree that Trattoria 10 and Rhapsody would be MUCH better options than Vivere.

Western Suburb Unique Place?

Clara's hasn't lost a step, it's lost a couple of flights. I used to be a huge fan, but had lunch there a couple of weeks ago, and it was almost unedible. I had lasagna, my wife had some other pasta. Both were very bad. I can't believe it is still the original family.

Sad, it used to be great.

Looking for casual food near Allstate Arena

When we go the DePaul game, we always eat at Barnaby's on Touhy. The pizza reminds me of Vito and Nicks. Of course, they also have sandwiches. It is about a half mile west of Manheim Rd.

Quest for best authentic Mexican in Western Suburbs!

I have to agree 100% with Sunnyday. Uncle Julio's is in no way shape or form authentic Mexican. It is also not very good "Tex-Mex." You can do much better than that.

Baha Fresh is much better than Uncle Julio's. Better ingretients, fresher, and healthier.

I think you need to go to Pilsen for great Mexican. Make it a road trip and enjoy.

Been to Smoke Daddy, Love it! Who's got the best BBQ in town?

I had a great slab of ribs a Chuck's last weekend. They were some of the meatiest ribs I've ever had, perfectly cooked. Definately not "jello" ribs. These had a nice chew to them.

The smoked brisket was also fantastic.
