Agreed. The seared foie gras was definitely the best part. I could have done without. |

Hitachino Beer in San Francisco? Whole Foods in SOMA had it. I saw the larger bottles near the hot food deli. |

Cajun Pacific in the Sunset District has them. You should preorder it soon and it'll be available for pick up. I believe it costed me $60 for a 14lb bird several years ago. ----- |

Dinner on Tuesday with a Vegetarian...ideas? Any ambiance is okay...not too hole in the wall. Something where it would be appropriate for work and doesn't have to fancy. |

Dinner on Tuesday with a Vegetarian...ideas? Hi there, My director just asked me for suggestions in San Francisco for a team dinner (team of about ten) with reasonable prices. We have one vegetarian and it needs to be easily accessible for my co-workers coming in from the South Bay and BART. Any suggestions for me? Any help is greatly appreciated! Mucho thanks. |

Buying ube ice cream, anywhere besides Mitchell's? Marco Polo, which serves gelato, has an ube flavor also. I like it better than Polly Ann's. ----- |

What's good at King of Thai Noodles? Have to agree with #17 and the papaya salad! Total yummers. Also okay was fried chicken with fried rice. Those three are the only things we there. I have also tried the soup noodles (okay), wonton soup (very meaty wontons), and yellow curry with chicken (which was way too sweet for curry). I'm not a big fan of their soup base so I stopped ordering their soup noodles after the two times I got it. |

Shishito peppers...grilled, fried, etc. Who else serves them besides Alembic? Don't kill me if I'm wrong but I think I had them at Sapoten on Clement St. in San Francisco. They were skewered and grilled with a touch of salt. It was the first time I've ever had it. |

First time at The French Laundry Not sure about when it gets dark in July but I'm responding to the latter part of your post regarding coffee and donuts. I was there back in February and inquired our server about the coffee and donuts when he asked us for our course options. Our server stated that he would check with the kitchen to see if they had the necessary ingredients and whether the chef would make them. In the end, we did get our coffee and donuts and it was well worth the effort to ask. Definitely doesn't hurt to try. :) |

i saw them in the fridge at a seafood center on Clement St in San Francisco two weekends ago. I believe it's right next to Pizza Orgazmica |

Best-O-Burger (Fidi), SF - NEW, anyone try it yet? Someone beat you to this already...here's the thread |

They are primarily in the South Bay. I used to frequent the one in the Rivermark Plaza in Santa Clara. There's also one in Cupertino Village and in Milpitas - the same plaza Darda is in. |

Thanks for the update. I, too, went there last night and was disappointed to find out about the discontinuing of the fried chicken. We looked at the menu and didn't find anything too interesting so we ended up heading to Namu for dinner. We did have two beers - Delilah Rye and some wheat ale - and the buttermilk fried onions. We were sorely disappointed with both beers. The wheat ale seemed a little watered down and the Delilah Rye tasted different from when we first had it during Strong Beer Month. We weren't too happy with the onions either because while they were sweet, they lacked any other flavor and seasoning. It definitely needed some kind of condiment. |

Circa in the Marina was doing this a couple of months ago during brunch. You might want to call them first to make sure though... ----- |

Visit SF's Chinatown? I'm from LA I just thought I'd clear this up. I'm friends with the owner's son and since the last time we spoke, which was about a month ago, the family still owns Utopia but they also own Imperial Palace. |

Sky's The Limit In SF. Recommendations? Second the Ritz Carlton Dining Room. The food and service was quite comparable to The French Laundry IMO. |

Tea Garden is okay. The tapioca balls were a little too mushy for me and I don't think I had the milk tea so I can't comment on the tea. They also serve it at Ming's Coffee Shop. I haven't had it either but it's basically a whole in the wall that serves Americanized Chinese food. ----- |

Question about French Laundry Reservation I just came back fron FL for dinner this past Sunday (got a reservation the first day I called...guess I was lucky). Dinner was great. Although like others have stated in the past, you could get something quite comparable if you go to other places in the city such as the Dining Room. Anyway, I requested for the coffee and donuts. While I thought the donut part was okay, I thought the "coffee" part of it was the best. It was better than the dessert they had on the menus. The top was foam much like that of an esspresso and the coffee part was like a custard/mousse/pudding. |

Kate's Kitchen? I had their biscuit and liked but it wasn't a traditional biscuit. Haven't tried their gravy yet, however. ----- |

Well, not sure who's still interested in Watami but I drove by yesterday and it's open. ----- |

Yes. That's right. I always get the two confused becayse Dragon River is right by my place. Thanks for the correction and I apologize for any confusion. :) |

Just wanted to see if anyone knows what happened to this place. I went about a month ago and I was really disappointed in the food. The broth looked the same but it didn't taste the same - it was REALLY watered down and I think they changed the noodles. It was limp and soggy. |

Brunch with a view in Sausalito Since you're not looking for great food but a view, I'll say Horizons in Sausalito. There's also and outdoor deck but I believe if you sit in the dining room, they have huge windows you can look at. |

I posted a few weeks ago about Watami, which will be a ramen and shabu shabu restaurant. Watami will take over what was Dragon River on Geary Blvd between 17th and 18th Avenue. Maybe this is the one? |

I haven't had it in years and there's been a downhill alert but I used to love Maki's version...quite expensive too. It was $20 or $25 for the dish. You have the option of having it cooked at your table or they can bring it to you cooked - I prefer to have them cook it as the flavor seems to absorb better when they do it in the kitchen. Another place that my husband I thought was okay was Takara which is also in Japantown but, again, I haven't been there in years. ----- Takara Restaurant |

New Blue Bottle Cafe opening 1/23/08 @ 8am No worries but I'm thankful for your input. I just wanted to note that this sourness in the cappuccino at BBC has never happened to me before (I would think that this sourness would happen every time if the coffee was supposed to be like that). It has happened to me with their drip coffee but never the espresso drinks and I've been drinking their coffee for a while. That's why I thought it had something to do with the roasting process with that particular batch. |

New Blue Bottle Cafe opening 1/23/08 @ 8am I'm not sure what Kyoto style iced cofee is. I didn't get a chance to ask since it was pretty crowded as mchan02 mentioned but I do remember the Kyoto style iced coffee costing $3.25 while the New Orleans style costs $3.50. However, it's not the siphon bar as the siphon drinks are hot drinks at I think $11 a siphon. It was pretty neat to watch the baristas make the siphon drinks, however. |

New Blue Bottle Cafe opening 1/23/08 @ 8am I just came back from Blue Bottle at the new location. I didn't see a food menu but I did see loves of bread...there were several menus on the tables and it included drinks and a dessert menu. We had a capuccino each and was surprised to find that our espresso drinks were sour...is this from improper roasting? I've had this issue with their drip coffees previoiusly too. Anyway, they have an interesting syphon coffee drink that serves two and in addition to their New Orleans iced coffee, they now have a Kyoto style iced coffee. Also new to their drinks menu are espresso con panna, lemonade, and some beer/wine. This is all I can remember from the top of my head. |

Schoggi Imported Swiss Chocolate, SF - anyone try it? As I stated in my Jan 16 response, I tried a champagne truffle from Schoggi. Not sure about the Schoggi's other truffles but I know that the champagne truffle is not from Teuscher since Teuscher's champagne truffles are my favorite so far. |

Schoggi Imported Swiss Chocolate, SF - anyone try it? I bought some last week on Thursday and ate them last night. Can't say I'm too fond of their truffles since I've has much better - I'm hoping this is because I waited a few days to eat it. Anyway, I had a champagne, dark chocolate, plum, and one other that I can't recall but it tasted like it was orange flavored, which isn't right because I wouldn't have bought an orange flavored truffle. The shells were really crispy so that each time I took a bite of the truffle, I had pieces of the chocolate shell that would fall all over the place and had a mess to clean up. I also found the filling of the truffle too sweet. My four pieces of truffles cost me $8.16 as they were $68 a pound. Anyone else try the place? |
