Gourmet Frozen Meals
So things are starting to get a little crazy for me at home. I dont even have time to cook anything anymore, and so am getting takeout all the time. I ws thinking of trying some of those gourmet frozen meals you can order onmline. I know they are a little pricey, but so is take-out.
Has anyone tried any of these? Any reccomendations for a good company?
Ideas for Casual Make-Ahead Dinner for 30
Will you have access to an outdoor location? One option might be to use some grills - you can always grill up some mushrooms and other veggies for the vegetarians. Otherwise, I would probably focus on salad-type meals - some Cous-Cous dishes do pretty well at room temperature, too.
Cheese in Denver
I am looking for a good restaurant with a decent cheese plate in the Denver area. Preferably in the Denver West/Lakewood/Golden area, but I am willing to travel a bit. I prefer something not overly fancy - I would like something more like a beer and cheese place than wine and cheese, aka more pub than fine dining. But beggars can't be choosers. Extra points if they have good grilled cheese or Mac and Cheese or other cheese dishes.
Thanks!
Jus' Mac - anyone been there?
I read about Jus' Mac in Houson. Has anyone been there? I can't quite seem to get a feeling for what kind of place this really is. Is is a quick casual place looking to become a chain, is it a local hole in the wall, or is it really a fancier place playoing up the "down home" atmosphere? i am staying up north of the city and debating if it is worth making the 45 minute drive to check it out.
Providence - decent place for a group near the Convention Center
"I'm sorry you didn't open your employees' horizons."
Perhaps a lot of people's horizons need to be opened up. Just because you may not like it does not mean other people won't. Let's get back to being a place about enjoying food and stop trying to be dining missionaries.
Contrary to what some of the people on this board think, there IS a place for Fire and Ice. If someone else is ther elooking for a place to eat in Providence, keep in mind there are going to be some (maybe quite a few) who are not going to like the food, but for an entertainment restaurant, where you find something that will please most people in your group, and will have a fun, not overly pretentious atmosphere, it does very nicely.
Providence - decent place for a group near the Convention Center
I think I may have learned something in this. All tastes are not alike. Some people get into the details of the food - the texture, how well it is cooked, the layers of flavors. But not everyone really enjoys that. I think for some people it less about the distinction of the food, than it is about sustenance. Who's right?
The more I think about it, the happier I am with our choice. I think most of the people I was with would have found the food at some of those other places too precious formtheir tastes.
Providence - decent place for a group near the Convention Center
I have never been there, but Angelos is probably closer to what I was looking for than something like Mediterraneo. These were some of my support staff, I was not entertaining clients. As it turned out we ended up at Fire and Ice, as a few of them were looking forward to going there. In the end that was a better idea, as I think the atmosphere was more to everyone having a good time. I personally wasn't crazy about the food (much drier and overcooked compared to their Boston counterparts) but everyone else really liked it.

Providence - decent place for a group near the Convention Center
It's not free. There is no charge for the parking itself (like you mentioned - most places), however, there is still the matter of tipping, etc. And since in this case would be a few different vehicles (we are dispersing after this) that would mean a couple of cars to park. Walking might be possible - it is turning out better conditions than expected tomorrow, but I would not expect any of them to be able to navigate that area never having been in the city before.
Touristy is not necessarily bad in all cases - these are not foddie people so I think Al Forno or simmilar would be alright. Definitely not in the Capital GRille price range.
Providence - decent place for a group near the Convention Center
I am taking a few employees out to lunch after visitng a conference at the convention center this week. There should be about 6-8 of us. Mind you I am not a high level executive, so I don't have a ton of money to spend on this, but still want to do something better than just sandwiches. As we will have a couple of cars, it either has to be a) within walking distance of the convention center or b) easy to get to and with decent parking (and most of these people have not spent any time in providence). While I would love to go to Il Forno, I don't think it will be an easy feat for all of us to get there. Any suggestions? I hate to be stuck with a chain if I can avoid it.

Jean Pierre's in Kissimmee
Went to their website and it says they are waiting on a new phone number and directions for approval - have they moved? any idea where?
Solo convention dining in Orlando, blah blah blah (but with lunch, I hope)
How is the Capital Grill for a solo diner? I know it's a chain, but I am craving raw beef, and they serve carpaccio, I believe.
Best Onion Soup in Orlando?
I used to like it, back when they first had it. But now I find it way too pasty. But it is pretty hard to find a cream of onion soup versus mor traditional kinds.
Best Onion Soup in Orlando?
Could be. Or cream of Onion. Or something more in line with Japanese onion essence soup.
I prefer the gratinee variety myself, but like others.
Deliver me from Orlando Chain Restaurants
I would also recommend Jean Pierre in Kissimmee. This minght not have met the needs of a picky mother, but in every other respect probably would. And for a fmilly looking for a change of pace from the chains but still in the area, it's a great option. The food is French Bistro, but it is NOT a themed place. The food is freshly cooked, and run by the owner and his daughter. Service can be bit slow when it gets busy, as food is cooked fresh. But off times it is great.
Best Onion Soup in Orlando?
Looking for the best Onion Soup in Orlando. Preferably not a super fancy restaurant, but willing to go a bit upscale (if necessary). Sticking to Orlando area, not the beaches or way up in Ocala.
best French restaurants in Orlando and Mt Dora - any help???
A bit of a hole in the wall place, but Jean Pierre at Water Tower Place in Kissimmee is good. Not a fancy place, casual bistro. But all their food is fresh. Great place if you want french food but have the family in tow.
Mac and Cheese in Worcester
I am looking for a good Mac and Cheese in the Worcester area. Not so much the creamy mac in velveta style, but good cheese, baked. Any suggestions?
Inexpensive Dinners Downtown Miami
I will down in Downtown Miami next week on business. I am on my own for dinners, and I am looking for a few places that aren't too fancy, and accessible from the Metromover. Something better than fast food, but not a real dress up place and someplace I can feel comfortable as a solo diner.
Thanks!
Orlando Cheese Plates
Who has the best cheese plate in the Orlando area? Any place you would feel comfortable just going in for apps, cheese and drinks?
Is Cube worth a last minute dash?
The reason why I was thinking about Cube is that a)they have a huge selection, and b)it's casual and not too overdone with the wines and stuff. I am far more about the cheese than the wine. Then again, to be honest I just can't quite figure out the scale and layout of LA - every time I estimate driving times and distances I am either way under or way over, never about right.
I am willing to try someplace else if they have a decent selection, aren't too fancy (I will be coming in on a LOOOONG transcon flight) and also maybe have a few other interesting small dishes. I am not too crazy on the valet parking thing, so I guess I have to mention parking, too.
I dont need to be there in an hour, it will just be likely an hour after my flight lands that I will be able to start making my way over there, so say someplace I can reach if I leave the airport at say 7:45.
Is Cube worth a last minute dash?
I am getting into LA Saturday night at 6:45. Assuming the gods are with me and there are no delays, I hope to be able to get out of the airport and grab a rental car in about an hour. Is it worth it to make a mad dash over to Cube to enjoy some good cheese? I am only in town for two nights, and discovered they are closed on Sundays.
Best place in the Us to Eat Cheese
I have never actually done the Cheesetrail, but living in Mass I have had the chance to try many of those cremerie's products. In Worcester there is a place called Armsby Abbey which often features several local cheeses.
Never would have thought of New Orleans for cheese!
Best place in the Us to Eat Cheese
I travel a lot, and am always looking for interesting places to eat when I travel. I am also a cheesaholic, and so I am trying to find the best restaurant to try cheese. Can be a cheese plate, flight, cart - whatever. But since I am usually in a hotel room I really dont have the means to purchase a chunk at a market and bring it back.
What are your favorite places to get cheese? Extra points for places that you can comfortably order just a cheese plate or flight, and for places that are a bit casual.
Any New Homestyle / Mom and Pop places in Orlando Attractions Area?
Going to be taking my parents to Disney. They are pretty unadventurous food wise, and I am trying to figure out where to take them to eat.
Are there any good homestyle restaurants, or mom and pop style places that have opened up in the past year or so? I am thinking more American style food, they really don't care for most of the ethnic styles, particularly anything Asian or Mexican. We typically do the Cracker Barrel, TooJays, Perkins type of thing, but I am looking for something new. Mostly dinner places.
I would like to stick in the attractions area for convenience (and sake of future readers of this thread), but I know my way around, and if you have a particularly good suggestion with a bit a of driving I would love to hear that, too.
Best Aiport Hotel Restaurant
I have an overnight next weekend at SFO. I get in fairly late (about 7) and have a real early flight out. So I really just want to get to the hotel, eat, and go to bed.
I haven't booked the hotel yet, so which hotel has the beat restaurant? I am not really up for venturing downtown at that point, but am willing to go somewhere within walking distance of a hotel that has an airport shuttle.
Thanks!
Mai Kai Solo
I decided to give it a try. I got there kinda early - was about 5ish, a sort of late lunch/early dinner. They asked if I had reservations (the voices, that is - coming in from the sun it was way too dark in there to actually see who you were talking to). They said they couldn't fit me into the show if I didn't, but they would be happy to seat me in one of the dining halls.
I was the only one in the room, it was kind of spooky. It was by the garden, so that was a plus. My waitress was, at first, extremely attentive, although I think she got distracted further on with other issues. Food was... well, it was edible. Let's just leave it at that.
I did not realize how expensive it was going to be. I think for most solo people, doing it my way would probably have bothered them, I was able to cope, but mostly because I found something to talk to the waitress and one of the other employees who were hanging around. But I am glad I did it one, the atmosphere, while quite tacky, was something to see!
Mai Kai Solo
I want to stop at the Mai Kai on my trip through Ft Lauderdale. I know it's not the greatest food, but I have to see the atmosphere.
As a solo diner, would I be better off eating at the bar, or comfortable enough in the dining room?
Unmixed Tartare
I suppose I never really thought about having it unmixed.
Sometimes I eat at the bar, sometimes a table. What I find really uncomfortable are those where you are stuck in the middle of the room, or are having a hard time deciding between being a restaurant and a nightclub. I also find the super formal restaurants tend to be a bit uncomfortable as well.
Unmixed Tartare
Beef Tartare is becoming more and more available. However, it always seems to come pre-mixed. I usually find it way too spicy - I am ordering Tartare because I want the taste of fresh beef, not Worcestershire sauce!
I need to build up some frequent flyer miles, and I want to find the best Tartare I can. Ideally it will someplace that serves it to you unmixed where you can add what you want in whatever proportions you want, but at a minimum mixed at the table.
Two requirements - can be anywhere in the continental US (Canada and Hawaii/Alaska are too expensive to fly to), and has to be comfortable for a single person.
So what are my best bets?
Swissotel Breakfast?
So I did the breakfast buffet. Price was a bit steep for what they offered - $28 for the buffet. It was an OK selection - not great. Few pastries (not too many, though), scrambled eggs, toast, bacon. They did have a few (supposedly) Swiss specialties. Fruits were pretty good, although not a huge selection. They advertised Eggs Benedict, but supposedly ran out and had scrambled eggs instead. Service was kinda grouchy, which seemed to run throughout the hotel. Wasn't terrible food, not great, either. Just not many choices.
