DFW trip review
Being a native Dallasite and living in Florida now, I see people tripping over themselves at how good they think Cantina Laredo is. Their food has become way too "shi-shi" for a Tex-Mex joint. Hell, I remember when their original location was just another run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex restaurant on Beltline in Addison
Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries Tampa
We've got three 5 Guys locations here in the Jacksonville area and every one of them always seems to be packed!! Great burgers
Sweet Tomatoes in Addison, tx?
Where in Addison is it? Is it in the old Fresh Choice location off Beltline? I discovered Sweet Tomatoes when I moved from Dallas to Jacksonville, FL. I had never seen one before and I must say it is head and shoulders above Souper Salad (which closed down here)
Taco Bell vs Taco Bueno
There is absolutely no comparison between Taco Bueno and Taco Bell. Bueno kicks the snot out of Taco Bell. Growing up in Dallas, I think I took it for granted. Now I live in Florida and I would kill to have Taco Bueno and Taco Cabana out here.
LONGHORN STEAKHOUSE
I like Longhorn, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't call it the best chain in this genre. I can think of two others that blow Longhorn away and that, in my opinion, is hard to do. One is called Saltgrass (owned by Landrys Restaurants) and the other is called Texas Land and Cattle (owned by Lone Star Steakhouse). Both of them are fantastic and they're spreading rapidly outside of Texas.
Moe's - is it just me?
Can't stand Moe's. If I want a burrito, I'll go to Qdoba or Tijuana Flats first.. They don't have a Chipotle in my city but if they did, that would be my first choice.
Best Tex-Mex in Dallas for out-of-towner
I would go with Mi Cocina or El Fenix. Both are classics in Dallas.
Jacksonville BBQ
I would definitely have to go with Mojos. Awesome cue!! Another good place I've found is Down South BBQ off A1A in Ponte Vedra. They make some great ribs.
There is a place at the the northeast corner of San Jose and Baymeadows that is DAMN good. The name of it escapes me.
Tento Churrascaria .. Jacksonville Beach
It's not the best churrascaria I've ever been to but it certainly isn't the worst. We don't have Texas de Brazil or Fogo de Chao here so it's better than nothing.
jacksonville
If you want some good Pad-Thai, I would suggest Pattaya Thai (Off Baymeadows between Southside and 95) or another place up the street called Lemongrass.
Mexican in Jacksonville?
There is no good Mexican food in this city. I'm a native Texan and the stuff I find here wouldn't pass muster for even the worst Mexican food in places like San Antonio, Dallas, Houston or Austin.
Good Greek food in Jacksonville??
Where must one go in this town for really good Greek food?
Samba Room in Orlando
If the Orlando version is anything like their other locations, overrated would sum up my opinion of it. The one they had in Dallas, TX closed because it was awful.
Fresh Seafood in Dallas
Fishmongers in Plano used to be a great place to pick up fresh seafood. Its at Park and Central.
(DFW) Sushi in North Dallas
Is Sushi Awajji still open in Plano? It was off Park between Ohio and Preston.
Ruths Chris or Mortons?
If Morton's and Ruths Chris are your only two choices, go with Morton's. Ruths Chris is overrated.
Waterfront Restaurants in St. Augustine
Shoot, Vilano Beach isn't that far. Its maybe about 15-20 minutes and the food is well worth it.
Romantic dining in Tampa/St Pete
OK, I'm in Tampa for work and so is a woman that I've known for years. Well I'm looking for a place that will knock her socks off. Something with great food but not too pretentious. She isn't a picky eater (Thank God) and has a lot of the same culinary interests that I do. I'm on an expense account but I don't want to blow the whole thing, you know?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
Sushi Rock - DFW / Plano
Personally, I think Sushi Rock sucks. You can find plenty of other good sushi joints in the N Dallas/Plano area that beat that place.
Best BEEF ribs in Dallas (BBQ)?
The Sonny Bryan's near Coit and Campbell in Richardson used to do that all-you-can-eat beef ribs special on Mondays. They were pretty damn good too but that place has gone downhill. If I want ribs in Dallas, I'll go to Dickey's or Randy White's BBQ (in Frisco) before going to Sonny Bryans.
Best Dallas Dive?
Haha, Adairs was the first place I thought of when I clicked on this thread. GREAT burgers.
Foodie bound for St. Augustine
BBQ joint between the JAX airport and St. Auggie? Thats easy. Mojos BBQ off University and San Jose in Jacksonville. One of the best 'cue joints in town, in my opinion.
Waterfront Restaurants in St. Augustine
Cap's in Vilano Beach. Sits right on the Intracoastal and it has awesome food.
Truluck in Boca?
I've eaten at the Truluck's in Dallas a few times and I've never been disappointed. Shoot, I had no idea they were in the Florida market now. Enjoy it.
Tia's Tex-Mex out of business
You can find good Cuban food in Dallas at a few different restaurants. Its not the same as what you can get in SoFla but its still pretty damn good.
Good Tex-Mex in Tampa Bay?
Actually Laurie, the frozen margarita has its origins in Dallas ;-)
Back in 1971, the man who owns the restaurant Marianos in East Dallas bought overstock Slurpee machines from the Southland Corporation and hired a chemist to come up with a mixture that would freeze.
Good Tex-Mex in Tampa Bay?
Kevin, you are correct about Tex-Mex being a cuisine. Tex-Mex emerged when traditional Spanish/Mexican recipes were intermixed with the traditional Anglo fare. There are some dishes that are found in both traditional Mexican cooking and Tex-Mex. Two of the biggest differences in Mexican and Tex-Mex cooking is the heavy use of meat and yellow cheese in Tex-Mex fare.
Jax Steak Joints?
I completely forgot about Stonewood. They do make a great steak. Aqua Grille in Ponte Vedra makes a very good filet.
