Vietnamese Subs

I used to get banh mi from Cafe X, the student-run cafe of Concordia's faculty of fine arts (in the VA building). I'm not sure if they still have those. I will do some investigating and get back. In the meantime maybe someone else knows.

Ripples ice cream (Montreal, Plateau)

Has anyone tried Bo-Bec's homemade ice cream sandwiches? Any good?

Openings in 2012

The same Lola Rosa from Milton street?

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal !

Any word on when the Gay Village location is set to open, or is it open already?

Frozen yogurt

I agree that Fruzishling is horrid. It tastes very chemical.

At Bo-Bec (rue Laurier) on Saturday I had their pineapple frozen yogurt (hard, not soft-serve), and I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if they have other flavours.

Ripples ice cream (Montreal, Plateau)

Am I mistaken or is Meu-Meu (mostly) organic? This might explain the higher price point.

best artisanal breads/bakeries in Quebec

I usually trave to the Bas St-Laurent region in the summer, and we always stop at Boulangerie Niemand in Kamouraska. They make good german style breads with tons of whole grains/seeds, and various other breads and viennoiseries.

Kale side dish?

I was just about to post this. Yum. Although I would cut down on the oil a bit.

Alep is temporarily closed. Help my find a birthday restaurant!!

What Do People See in Montreal Bagels?

I think the fillings stay in better if it's hollowed out. We're talking a bagel sandwich that has a bunch of stuff in it, not just cream cheese. Plus I think some people like the chewier outside and dislike the fluffy inside.

What Do People See in Montreal Bagels?

I agree about the condensation thing. It's sort of equivalent to putting them in the microwave.

What Do People See in Montreal Bagels?

Real Bagel on Ste-Catherine near Greene, maybe? Not exactly downtown I guess, but it's the closest decent bagel I can think of.

Restaurant Communion

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback to share regarding Restaurant Communion on rue de la Commune in Old Montreal.

Bella Vista

Hiya. Does anyone know what is going on with Bella Vista, the Portuguese bakery on ave. des Pins? It's all papered up and for a while there was a sign saying they were closed for renovations, but now there's a new sign that says a new boutique will be opening soon. I will be so sad if they are gone for good.

Opening Tomorrow "Lawrence", 5201 Blvd St Laurent

Had dinner there a few nights ago and really enjoyed it. The first time I'd gone none of the appetizers at our table had been all that impressive so this time my friend and I opted to share a main course as an appetizer - seared foie gras with a duck broth, lentils and prunes. This was a hit. For mains we had the rare beef with beetroot and dripping toast - the beef was a bit tough but overall this dish was very tasty - and the gnocchi, which were quite delicious as well. The star of the show was the tarte tatin for dessert, which may be the best dessert I've had in a restaurant in Montreal, ever. We shared it two ways but I think it's probably better suited for four. No regrets from me, however. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Our waiter was very warm and approachable. I look forward to trying their brunch!

The Best Baklava in Montreal?

Mahrouse is far and away the best I've had as far as middle-eastern style goes. For Greek style, my favourite is Picadilly bakery on Ogilvy street. They have chocolate covered baklava if you are looking for true decadence.

Stevia as a natural alternative to sugar

I once purchased stevia in liquid form at Liquid Nutrition on rue Bishop.

Pizzeria Magpie

"...playing 'make-up' seems to be a regular thing..."

Based on two instances? That's not really a fair assessment.

I went right before they closed for the holidays and I thought the service was quite slow, but friendly. There did seem to be a few communications flaws (we were served the wrong drink, for example), but overall it was quite a nice experience.

Romance in Montreal '11

I think you might like Le Comptoir Charcuteries et Vins. When I was there the crowd was pretty young/cool but not pretentious or too cool for school. The food was really good and the service was great. I think it would also fit within your budget (it's not byo). Expect to sit at the bar though because there are few tables.

Candied nuts in Montreal???

I love the maple pecans from the vendor at JT market. Also chocolate hazelnuts.

Cuisine chinoise Tian Tian

A friend and I ate there several days ago. We left completely stuffed and the total bill for both of us was $14.50.

Those pork dumplings are my new favourite thing. They are so succulent and hearty. I also agree with Snackhappy that the jian bing is definitely a winner. A bit difficult to pick up with chopsticks, but worth the effort.

Chez ma grosse truie chérie

The answer is no, in case anyone was wondering.

pizza cones

I thought they heated and served pre-made frozen cones. I didn't realize you get to choose your toppings. What other toppings are there to choose from?

Montreal weekend lunch/brunch options (not too eggy)

A few you didn't mention that come to mind:

Le Cartet
Le Jurançon
Cocktail Hawaii
Le Dépanneur Café
La Salle A Manger (haven't tried it but heard good things)

Where to find Marachino Cherries with Stems

I've bought them at Metro. They're way more expensive than the ones without stems.

Chez ma grosse truie chérie

Hi, does anyone know if you can order off the Le Trottoir menu if you're in the regular dining room?

How About Some Updates On Qing Hua Dumpling

The novelty has worn off a bit for me but I still love Qing Hua. I went very recently and the dumplings were as good as ever.

Can we/should we improve on these plans?

There's a sports bar called Champs just up the street a little from Schwartz's. You might want to call and see if they'll be showing your games.

Jardins Sauvages

I went to Jardins Sauvages last fall, but not for the mushroom fest. We had a really good meal and I would love to go back.

Frozen Yogurt

Yeh! Ste-Catherine gives 10% off to Concordia students.
