I second to SAGE. My husband and I always have at least one dinner every time we are in Vegas. I love everything they serve, but Foie gras brulee is a must.

Places to go, with regular Los Angeles visitors

We love Rivera as well. A cocktail with beef jerky? Gotta love it! Food is great as well. I do not care for tequila and I admit that I love "girly" cocktails, but their tequila flight is my favorite!

Dog-friendly brunch spots?

I liked THE FAT DOG on Fairfax. We had a lovely brunch on the patio with our dog. I liked their burger but the fries are weak. I do not think they twice-fry the spuds. The staff was friendly and super nice to my dog, and that is important to us.

Fig & Olive - has anyone been?

My husband and I love their food. He was there 2 weeks after its opening and loved it. I finally had a chance to go about 3 weeks ago and I tried all the Crostini, Ceviche & Tartar. Our favorites were "Mushroom, Truffled Artichoke, Parmesan", "Manchego, Fig, Marcona Almond", and "Salmon Ceviche with Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Cilantro"

Unfortunately, the service was horrible. We ordered a bottle of red wine and one person ordered a glass of white. The food came before the bottle, and a glass of wine did not arrive until we finished the appetizer. There was a very long wait after appetizer until the entrees were served. Our wait staff did not apologize for the wine delay, and she only checked back with us immediately after the food was served. Also, I had to flag busboy/busgirl to refill the water glass 4 times since our waitress rarely came by.

My husband is usually quiet about making a complaint to the management (unlike me), but this time even he had to talk to the concierge as we were leaving.

Would I go back? Probably yes for the food, but I am reluctant because of the experience.

best quality ribeye under $12/lb?

His method definitely works. I've done it and I was impressed.

French restaurants?

My husband and I just had dinner there last night. I must say that service was better than the food. Here are some photos.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Southern California?

Has anyone been to XINO in Santa Monica? It is located in Santa Monica Place - top floor. I had a quick lunch there once. It was walk-in and I was expecting something along the line of PF Chang. But I though the food was unexpectly good. My husband, mother-in law and I enjoyed the several different selection from their Dim Sum Menu.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Southern California?

I would not waste a penny on WP24. It was dismal experience. Upscale Chinese can be done – like Hakkasan in South Beach, FL where I had a great time. With resources they have WP24 has to do better job than they do currently.

Same style as Gjelina but in West Hollywood ?

There is not much discussion on Eveleigh here. My husband and I went for dinner last week and had a great time. Food was excellent, except for Mac & Chese, and we liked the ambience as well. My favorites are Pot-roasted Mussels, wild White Shrimp and Beef Ribeye Cap. We had a plate of dougnuts as our dessert which was served nice and hot. Accompanying pear puree was light and delicious!

Wurstkuche – what am I missing?

So far I have not had a bad experience at Wurstkuche. It has a vibe of a place you find in NYC or Tokyo where you meet up with your friends for a drink or two with yummy bites. I had a plain brad at my first visit and it was good. I am surprise that no one mentioned Duck and Bacon which is my favorite. Exotic meat, such as alligator and snake, seems dry to me – not my cup of tea. Thai Peanut butter dipping sauce? They really should take it off the menu; it is terrible. I am not a big fan of spicy sausages. I rather add heat with spicy pepper as one of my toppings. We love the wild selection of beer. Where else can you find Duchess de Bourgogne (now that I said it, I am sure someone will find a place on Westside – let me know )? My only complaint is the parking, but it is what it is for the area. You can always valet at a restaurant next door…

It's not cool to have a "Menu Here" sign unless it is a school cafeteria...

Private Room with a round table for 14 people

We ended up with 10 people that night. I discovered a nice big round table at FIG restaurant in Santa Monica. It is my new favorite place. The round table is located at the semi private corner of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a place for a big party.

Ruth Chris' Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe?

I am glad to find this post. Due to overwhelming request from my family, I am going to make this for Thanksgiving this year. It is good to know that I can make it one day ahead.

Private Room with a round table for 14 people

Hi LA Chowhounds, I need your help! I need to find a restaurant with a private dining room with a round table that accomodate 12 to 14 people. I am planning on this feast at the top of October. Location should be somewhere between Santa Monica to West Hollywood. No particular restriction on type of cuisin. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you so much!

Hatfields vs. Bastide?

definitely prix fix. i understand you'll get to enjoy dish which is not available on the regular menu.

LA Chowhound in Chicago – need “must try” recommendations for two lunches and three dinners

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Yes, I live in Los Angeles. I know nothing about Chicago, so I will start from getting to know what unque exsperience this great city can offer. I should get busy!

LA Chowhound in Chicago – need “must try” recommendations for two lunches and three dinners

Hi Chicago chowhounds! I will be coming to town at the top of October and I need your recommendations. It's been at least 10 years since I was in Chicago. I need recommendations on truly memorable meals. Thanks for your help! I would probably pass on Japanese (unless otherwise it is a Must), but other than that, we are open for any cuisine. Not just a high-end dining, I would like to try casual good eats as well. Thanks!

Hatfields vs. Bastide?

I went to Bastide this April and it was not memorable - rather disappointing. I certainly not call it a LA Legend anymore.

I went to Hatfield's this May and thoroughly enjoyed their Spontanée tasting menu (8 courses) with wine pairing.

So TheSpleen, where did you end up going?

The New Gjelina - Fresher than Fraiche!

Hi Wasabica,

Thanks for the great review. My husband and I had lunch last Friday with three other friends. It was my second visit. I agree that they do magic on their vegetables. I was not a fan of their breakfast items, but the Mushroom Pizza is great. Have you tried their grilled mission figs ($13)? It is to die for! I must agree about the service. My husband ordered a glass of Tokaji for dessert, but they completely forgot it. I have not yet had dinner there, but it is on my list.

Best Japanese Downtown?

My husband and I just went to R23 with three other friends. We do not hear much about this place lately on Chow.com, but we all enjoyed their food very much. Since we live on the Westside and we can find comparable Japanese food in our neighborhood, I doubt we will travel that far just for the food. But their food is great. If I was in the neighborhood I will be a regular. And, yes, they still do have the cardboard chairs.
