Stockyards Burger review
Johnny Rockets at Yonge/Dundas has great griddled burgers but the fries pretty much suck.
Toronto Steakhouses
Harbour is pretty much the same price as Jacobs. Very little difference. Some items are more and some are less.
That being said, our bill is always higher at Jacobs.
dim sum on baldwin
I have only had 2 terrible dim sum meals at Kowloon and that was several years ago. Haven't had the desire nor recommendation to go back.
Caplanskys on College St - impressions?
I agree in that I have never had the same sandwich twice and that is not a good thing in my experiences with Caplansky. I can also say I have never had a truly bad one.
So I keep going and I keep enjoying and I hope for a time where I can say he's nailed it.
Not-too busy brunch spot in Toronto?
Funny we stopped going to the Gladstone because it was too busy after 11 and the little kitchen couldn't keep up.
Sounds like its time to try again. It got so busy the food wasn't coming out well anymore.
Chicago Pizza Kitchen, or, How a Small Pizza Lasts Three Meals
Kimmel and caraway are the same thing.
Buca opening soon?
What about the fact that Buca is owned by the Brassaii people and the chef/partner was trained under McEwan?!?!
Years of experience - abosultely no comparison whatsoever to Caplansky.
Caplanskys on College St - impressions?
RD, I have to say that HWY 61 food was bad. The ower/manager's attitude was worse. There is no comparison at all.
Secondly, nobody says you need to go there. Obviously you have it all figured out and Zane doesn't. You walked the walk with perfection and he is tripping.
Let's just let the people decide and hopefully Zane will catch up before people give up.
I for one have not given up and I applaud his mission!
Eaton Centre Food Court
Have to say I still much prefer Shawarma King over the new Milo. I find the chicken to be much more tasty and I prefer the whole salad plate in general.
Raaw Sushi - Liberty Village - Bad News!
I knew it when I saw how hidden the place is from view that they are probably not busy enough to have super fresh sushi.
Then we walked in only to see the sushi showcase glass is not crystal clear but is instead dirty looking because it was not wiped down properly leaving all kinds of streaks. I checked closer, with my fingers, to find the streaks/dirt was in fact on the inside.
Now you can call us stupid because we actually ordered take out. The salmon sashimi was actually quite good - thickly cut, fresh, smooth and just as you would expect. The spicy tuna on the other hand had a strong taste of fish so after we each had a piece of maki, we threw the rest away. It tasted so strong even the spice couldn't cover it up.
House-keeping alone, I will never go back. The not-fresh tuna just seals the deal.
Why would any restaurant open in that hidden lane anyway...
Sudden Inexplicable Craving for a Banana Split
I've never seen an eating area at Dutch Dreams, do they have one?
Grilled Cheese in kensigton...
Yes....in fact why don't they start frying some kettle chips daily like Sobeys does!
Butter
I remembered this coming up a long time ago. Not sure if the threads are still relevant enough to help you though.

Buddha Dog? Thoughts? Death Watch?
I like to Snarf down the rare roast beef with wasabi mayo and onions at Zoe's on King West. I don't eat fried food all that often so I opt for the steak sandwich at California on Clinton...with mushrooms, onions and sauce it is extremely tasty and satisfying. I would say it is 50/50 on it being properly tender but even with the few tough bites you may get, the taste is so great! When it comes to hot dogs, I prefer top quality sausages found at the st lawrence market or even a Big Frank (formerly Kwinters). Otherwise give me a burger.
Buddha is foofoo food in my estimation and not at all addictive...not even slightly. Give me the tasty keilbasa from down the street!
cheers
Buddha Dog? Thoughts? Death Watch?
Thanks Snarf. BTW, is your CH name derived from Frans?
I am not missing the pure meat thing. I get that and think a great steak sandwich elsewhere for the same price is much more satisfying. As hot dogs I just found them to be dry and expensive. If I want pure beef there are many, way better, ways to eat it....IMO
Dim Sum
High end - LWH! Make a reservation.
Normal pricing - Rol San on Spadina. Its fresh and fabulous. Prepare for crowds though.
Buddha Dog? Thoughts? Death Watch?
Is there anybody else on here who can say they taste great. I tried them twice when they first opened and thought they were dry and boring. They were short pepperonis on a bun. I thought they were way over-priced due to how many it would take to feel like you ate anything. As well they charged crazy prices for simple toppings. I hated the place and never went back. I have never heard a good thing since and I drive by and never see them busy.
So are there 5 people on here who can say the hot dogs rock? Not because they are all natural with no additives and organically produced from ingredients within X miles of the place. I dont care about that niche for a hot dog!
I just want to know if they have improved the hot dog and made it taste good n juicy?
Thanks!
Grilled Cheese in kensigton...
Chatting with a friend of mine...apparently the cheddar, mushroon, garlic version is the one to get. Although still missing the buttter, it is supposed to be very good!
Grilled Cheese in kensigton...
Tried it for lunch today. The Classic has 3 types of cheese and tomato for $6.00.
I give it a big pass. boring! Further, while it is an ok sandwich, it is not like my mom used to make....or Shanghai Cowgirl for the matter. I was expecting traditional and buttery - perhaps decadent and sinful. It was dry with no butter whatsoever. It was a healthy version of a grilled cheese. So while it was good bread, good crispiness and decent cheese...I would MUCH rather just grab a slice of zah for more tastier food and less money. It came with salted nacho chips and hummus. Why? Give me plain or S&V potato chips with my grilled cheese. Hummus was actually very good but it screwed with my mind as I was trying to go back to my kiddy days....
Best pizza in Toronto?
We get the margarhita all the time at Terroni to split with other courses. I can tell you I have never ever seen just one leaf of basil. Can't even imagine how that would happen. Did you bring it to the server's attention?
Suggestions for a "dive" restaurant close to a movie theatre
I consider The Tulip a dive and would then head over to the Beaches theatre.
The Stockyards Smokehouse & Larder
It IS never available. How did you manage to get some? I really didn't think they really made it and that they just wanted people to keep stopping by for it....so I gave up.
Real Veal Cutlet Sandwhich
Ramsey, you have now accurately described the most-overated sandwich in Toronto...Mustachio's! Even when served hot, although not soggy, it is quite bland and boring. Never again no matter how good it looks!
Best Indian in Toronto - where is it?
Pak Centre! http://www.pakcentre.ca/ Fantastic all the way around! And nice clean digs.
Grace's "Jerk Spice"
Try the Jerk Marinade by Grace. It comes in a bottle and is fantastic. Marinade a whole boneless pork shoulder in it overnight and grill for 4 hours on low heat and you will be singing the praises. Be sure to deeply score the meat all around to help absorbtion of the marinade. This is the one marinade/sauce that I never feel the need to doctor up.
Also great to marinade chicken wings! love it!
liberty noodle review
I have spoken to many locals in the area who have tried it and the reviews all seem to be the same. Poor service, long waits, unexciting food, and too expensive given that it is just normal, not special, grub.
Not one person has suggested that we try it.
I agree that if they don't make some extreme changes soon, even the cold winter won't help them attract business.
