Arlington Area Eats?

Thanks everyone for your reccs!

I'm from NYC, but moved to FL....so I do know what Asian food, bagels and pizza is supposed to taste like.

I'm more of the adventurous eater of the two of us, so I will check out the places with bone marrow and escargot on the menu on my own as my second half thinks Pappa John's is good eats.... :)

Arlington Area Eats?

Hello,

My husband is in town on business and I've tagged along. We're staying in the Arlington area near the Courthouse, and are desperate (or at least I am) for good eats, and interesting eats as well.

We love ethnic foods, so any suggestions for Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, etc. are welcome.

I am on my own during the day, so if there are any lunch hot spots not to be missed, I'd love to hear about those as well.

I have also heard about a Food Truck in the DC area, and would LOVE to know where to go for something like that as well.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Found good, authentic bagels in Tampa Bay!

Thanks SO much for that info! Everytime I go home to NY I come back to Tampa with 2 dozen bagels LOL

We went a few years ago. Only complaint is that there isn't an offering where you can pay a set price and then sample an array of food and you have to pay per item. We would've gladly paid $50 or so and then gotten to try a better array of things. Another thing was we wished there was a bigger representation of nations there. All in all, it is fun.

Cheap Eats in Tampa

For cheap eats, I like Hugo's on Howard. Its Cuban if I'm not mistaken. I've had their Cuban Sammy and its nothing to rave about, however I am in love with their Ropa Vieja.

China Yuan in Tampa-Twice last weekend!

We've had the dim sum at TC Choy's on multiple occasions and enjoyed it, but still wanted to try China Yuan. Would definitely consider giving it another chance for dinner, but not for dim sum.

China Yuan in Tampa-Twice last weekend!

We went there this afternoon for some dim sum, and hate to say it we were very disappointed. I had dragged my fiancee there telling him how everyone rants and raves on the board about how good and authentic the food is, so he finally agreed to make the trek from South Tampa. We ordered the 1/4 duck, turnip pudding, shrimp dumplings, and the sticky shrimp. The shrimp dumplings and sticky shrimp were okay, but not good, and the duck and turnip pudding was greasy and just rather bleh. We would've tried more things on the menu but we were both somewhat disheartened. I'm wondering if the food wasn't up to what it normally is due to the fact that we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant, but I'm not sure. The service however was very good, and I would consider giving it another try since I figure you all CAN'T be this wrong! :)

Rattlefish -- one heck of a place.

We were there a few weeks ago after not being there for a few months and the food wasn't as good as I remembered it. Although you can't beat the view or the macaroni and cheese wedge!

Best pizza in Tallahassee

Had Decent Pizza when I was in Tallahasse for six weeks for training. I REALLY liked it and I'm HARD to convince when it comes to pizza (Brooklyn girl). The slices were bigger than my head! Another plus to the place was the vegan pizza which our vegan friends in the area raved about.

Salads for lunch - Tampa Bay

I like Doc Greens on Neptune (in the same shopping center Moe's and Coldstone is in by Publix) in Tampa. They have a "make you own salad" thing that reminds me of the places I used to eat lunch at in NYC. Another place for good salads is Louis Pappas on Bay to Bay...I just ask for my greek salad with no potato salad.

Law School graduation in St. Pete

I definitely agree with Oystercatchers. The food is good, the service is better, AND the views are gorgeous.

Decadant desserts in Tampa?

I've not tried their cupcakes, but a TON of people have highly endorsed Kalupa's cupcakes...they're located on MacDill. Its a take out bakery...but it might be worth a look.

Clearwater Beach Breakfast Recommendation

Frog Pond is SO worth the trip :)
The omlettes are enough for three people...or at least it seems they are.
If you end up there, try the crab and cream cheese omlette....MMMMMMMMM

Tampa Area Caterer for a Wedding?

I'm a transplanted NY'er and although I've been down here for almost three years, all the weddings we've gone to in Florida have been out of the Tampa Bay area with the exception of one, which was catered by the hotel.

We're in the process of looking at venues, and the one I'm most in love with so far has NO food or beverage service, which means we'll be able to pick and choose our caterer...YAY. I saw an older post from 2005 about caterers, but I'm wondering if there are any new comers, etc. that are reccomended and/or people we should stay away from. We're looking to have no more than 150 people, and want to do a plated dinner.

Please share your experiences and help this transplant figure out where to go! ;)

Question About The Columbia in Ybor

I had posted a few days ago re: where to take my boyfriend for his 30th birthday dinner in Tampa, and after a ton of wonderful suggestions he's decided that since Mise en Place is not open on Mondays that he'd like to go to the Columbia. I've made reservations for the show as well as I figure it may be worth a watch, but I'm wondering is there anything on the menu that we MUST order? I've seen a ton of posts about the salad, but what about entrees? Thanks!

Estelas in Tampa

I am NOT a fan of Estellas at all. I have tried several items on their menu as my boyfriend is a fan thinking that perhaps I ordered "the wrong thing," but my last straw with them was when I realized there was AMERICAN cheese melted in my cheese enchilada. BAD BAD Mexican food.

Need 30th Birthday Dinner Suggestions - Budget Friendly In Tampa

Thank you for all the suggestions! I appreciate it! :) We've eaten at Byblos and Wine Exchange a ton of times but haven't tried the other suggestions, so I'll look into those.

Need 30th Birthday Dinner Suggestions - Budget Friendly In Tampa

We've eaten at a LOT of the restaurants listed in the thread....that's part of the reason I posted this thread hoping to see if there was another place we could go that he might not be expecting. I'd like to keep dinner below $100, but I can go up to $120 if I had to, but would REALLY like not to as his gift is $$$

Need 30th Birthday Dinner Suggestions - Budget Friendly In Tampa

My boyfriend's 30th birthday is rapidly approaching and since his present is going to cost me a pretty penny his birthday dinner cannot...this means no Berns. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced, but good place to take my man for his special day? He likes all types of food.

Sarasota - After a Movie?

We ended up eating at Cafe Epicure. I had Black Linguine with Shrimp Asparagus and a Spicy Red Sauce, and my boyfriend and his friend had a sausage pizza and pasta cabonarra. My food was okay and so was there's nothing spectacular, but it was good. We went next door afterward and had gelato.

Sadly the movie was sold out, so we'll be heading back down nexr weekend so we'll try out another restaurant, so more suggestions are welcome!

Samurai Blue in Ybor

My boyfriend took me to Samurai Blue for a "change of scenery" as we almost ALWAYS go to Yokos on MacDill a few weeks ago. With the exception of the roll that had the strawberry and eel sauce on it, nothing blew me away, and some of their stuff was just rather bleh. I'll take Yokos any day of the week, but WOULD go back for more of that strawberry roll...it was to die for!

Sarasota - After a Movie?

We're heading over to Sarasota tonight to see a movie I've been DYING to see since it's been released but it just refuses to come to Tampa! Any ideas where to eat? We'll be in jeans.

Good Lunch Options In St. Pete?

Thanks so much for all of your replies! I have tried Rollin Oats before and LOVED it. I really love the Portobello Mushroom sammy. I'm thankfully off for the rest of the week, but I'll have to hit up at least one of these places next week! Thanks so much again! No more Wendys for me!

Good Lunch Options In St. Pete?

I work all over the St. Pete area, so there's really no way to narrow down an area unfortunately. My job has me in the field all day, so I can't say "find me a place by my office." I'd prefer something on the healthier side, despite my propensity for Wendy's this week...and perhaps some good ethnic food of any kind. Thanks!

Good Lunch Options In St. Pete?

I need HELP! I work in St. Pete and live in Tampa, and am still relatively new to the area, so knowing a good place to eat isn't really that easy for me. I work in the field almost all day, so I'm not looking for a nice sit down kind of place, but a good grab and go with a seating option would be good that's reasonably priced. Just so you understand my plight, I've had Wendy's three times this week. THANKS!

Dining Options in Tampa?

When we ate at the Laughing Cat, I ordered a seafood pasta item, and there was something off about the scallops....the sauce was good, but the shell fish was just not that good. Our waiter treated us like we had malaria too. My only thought as to why this was is the fact that there was a dinner party of about 8 people there as well, but that's still no excuse to leave us without anything to drink for about 15 plus minutes.
