Strawberries have no flavor anymore. Agree or disagree?

Now I can actually distinguish between strawberries from Watsonville, Ca. and those grown in Florida ... the former are wonderfully sweet and flavorful, the latter are not especially sweet and lack the flavors that make this fruit unique ....

Top turkeys in taste test? Rubashkin #1, Empire #5

Interestingly, Newsweek reports that the top tasting turkey was a bird by Rubashkin and, coming in fifth, was an Empire bird ... I know the salting helped the flavor but that is true of both kosher birds ... is there something else involved? Your thoughts?

http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/tipsheet/archive/2007/10/20/food-top-turkeys.aspx

As Thanksgiving approaches, a panel of 24 tasters sampled eight turkeys and rated them on flavor, texture, moistness and “overall appeal.” Surprisingly, frozen birds often bested fresh ones.

1. Rubashkin’s Aaron’s Best PRICE: $1.99 per pound TO BUY: Most supermarkets
This frozen kosher turkey is “very moist, with excellent texture"

Lunch at Woodfire Grill

Recently, Woodfire added lunch service to their daily dinner offerings ... I have in mind a lunch for when a close friend comes to town from out of state ...

What are their lunches like? I have had great dinners there ...

What kind of food is served?

Any cheese tasting at lunch?

Thanks for any information you might be able to share with me ...

Kosher Meat at Trader Joe's in Cary, NC

I am in Atlanta and was delighted to see kosher meat when I went to the Trader Joe's here! I also saw it in the Trader Joe's in Aptos, California last week on a visit ...

Bravo for Trader Joe's! Many of their products are under kosher supervision .. they "get it"!

Kyma in Atlanta: recommendations both pro & con?

Many thanks for the help with this! Nothing is so valuable as personal experiences in selecting a proper place to dine on a special occasion... that said, I am eliminating Kyma and rethinking the situation ... maybe McKendrick's and he can have the salmon (his usual) and I can eat meat (my favorite, preferably rare!) ...

Kyma in Atlanta: recommendations both pro & con?

My husband and I are planning to celebrate our anniversary this month and would like to try a restaurant to which we have not yet been.
We have been to the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton for their tasting menu, to Restaurant Eugene, to Joel, to Oceanaire, and to most of the other Buckhead Life places, and we are still open to ideas.

(a note here on dietary issues: my husband does not eat either meat nor shellfish in restaurants)

Trader Joe's Opening in Roswell Ga

Went to the new Atlanta Trader Joe's in Sandy Springs on Roswell Road last week ... it is a bit small but I found a lot of wonderful items for my Thanksgiving dinner ... crisp frisee, huge roasted cashews, dried fruits, butternut squash bisque, candies, inexpensive olive oils, crackers of all types, fresh haricots verts, multicolored peppers, etc etc ... I have loved Trader Joe's for ages and always stocked up when I was in California visiting my daughter ... now I can use my empty suitcase for other things Californiaesque ... small but a wondrous food treasure trove that place!

McCrady's in Charleston

Chef Sean Brock has done amazingly creative things to food here in Charleston and when he was Head Chef in Nashville at The Capitol Grille .. more on Chef Brock here:

from the website:
Brock, now 27, has a long list of accomplishments and accolades to his credit, including two dinners for the James Beard Foundation, a feature on the Food Network, numerous glowing reviews and local awards, and apprenticeships with acclaimed chefs.

Paula Deen's restaurant

I don't know whether that restaurant visit alone is worth the drive by itself ... but, if you are interested in Savannah dining and have other things to do or see, then I would add Lady and Sons to my itinerary ... If I happen to visit Savannah, I always try to hit this place because I like Paula Deen so much!

Good Italian Restaurant in Atlanta

The reviews have been excellent and it is an independent restaurant on Holcomb Bridge Road ..."di Paolo finds and uses only the finest and freshest ingredients to offer signature Italian cuisine.
