Make ahead meals for Elderly
I did this for late mother for years. She LOATHED cooking with a dark, violent passion. Every month I'd drop off dozens of pyrex with plastic lids (easy to get the top off with arthritis) of meatloaf, mac & cheese, stuffed peppers, cottage pie, lasagna, beef stew, soups, etc. At night she would put one in the fridge to defrost, nuke for dinner the next evening. Her doctor's concern was sodium, but we found that my home cooked meals naturally were better for her than her usual meals of fast food/freezer meals from the store. I distribited them to the other ladies in her apt building when she died.....
Help with gift of grapes
Great tips!!! THey are green seedless and I have only made freezer jam/jelly. The only recipe I use grapes for is the chicken salad recipe everybody makes...I gave more away. Got three left. I'll freeze them. Thanks. Supposed to get a flat of cabbage next week-they store better, and I love coleslaw and corned beef and cabbage..........Ann

cleaning Pyrex
I am embarassed to say how many times I've done this.....Two scrub free fixes-One, Coat with oven cleaner and let sit overnight in a cold oven. Two, Pour in amonia, be VERY careful of the fumes and leave in an area where kids/pets won't get near it.
Rinse in the morning.
THis is why I only buy PYREX at goodwill.....Good Luck, Ann

Two questions on one day. Must be a weather thing....
We bought 3 big pumpkins to decorate our antique shop for fall and I can't stand to waste food. Hubby is not a fan of pumpkin pie, so I am looking for other ideas.
A spice cake with cream cheese frosting was a hit, but I've made it twice already...Any ideas??? Thanks, Ann

Good Recipe Software?
Nope, Kaleo. Just the basics.....Try google, but I bought one a couple of years ago and it sucked to copy/paste all the "2" "TSP" "Cumin" "1" TSP" "baking soda" into each individual column. Since about half of my recipes are from online, its easier. I did a basic DB with title, description, ingredients, and categories.

Good Recipe Software?
I asked this a few years ago on another forum and was amazed at the ideas. Basic word processors and self made databases were the norm. Some bought software, but no one offered a recommendation. I painstakingly added over 450 recipes to a basic database. Its able to be sorted by categories and I can print out each recipe. PLus, I can email the whole thing to a friend...Ann
So, how many original issues of CHOW were there???

Recipe/Nutrition/Menu Planning Software (for the Mac)
I don't know if its MAC friendly, but I love Coolbook Wizard-very easy and great support for a PC newby.
