Good lobster?

Love the Continental. I'm partial to their lobster pie. Very old school, but takes you back to another era. Great bartender and just love the way he makes a French Martini.

Doing the North Shore drive with wife and kids tomorrow. Best clam shack !!!

Love, love, love Choate Bridge. Dining room is family friendly and have never seen any bad behavior in the bar area, but have only been there during lunch.

What is it with Massachusetts and steak tips?

I agree. Champions are always good, but Brodie's can be tough. I won't get tips at Brodie's anymore.

Market Basket, Thoughts

Well, I have been to MB twice since everything was "settled". Granted the first time certain items were scarce, but it has seemed to come back.

Now, what I am finding scarce (at least the time when I shop) and I have always shopped between 8-9am are customers. I can only speak for my experience with the Danvers store, but the past two weeks the cashiers were waiting for customers versus the customers waiting in line to check out.

Is it just Danvers or have others found that to be true in the MB stores they frequent?

I wonder if the public was actually a bit fed up with what went on and have chosen to stay with the stores that they shopped at during the walkout.

Market Basket

I agree and I do miss many of the products I can only find at MB. We'll see if Artie T. offers any good deals to the customers who immediately come back to the stores. I agree that prices will rise, no doubt. But I also think there should be some incentives to go back.

Pay by Check no more!

I, personally, don't care how someone decides to pay. But then suddenly you get behind that cash paying customer who has to dig through everything that they are wearing or carrying to find that extra penny so they have exact change. A check would be quicker. JMO.

Legal Sea Foods: You've come a long way baby!

Legal C Bar in Lynnfield was acceptable. Although, I, too am one of the Legal "haters". The Bang Bang Cauliflower was very good, but it's not seafood. I actually had a filet with shrimp. I didn't finish the filet (it was fine) and never tried the grilled shrimp. It had Bernaise sauce over the filet and shrimp. I do like Bernaise sauce, but I'm a on the side type of gal. I should have read the menu more carefully. The choice of Legal C was someone else's idea...not mine so I made the best of it.

Effect of Market Basket stoppage/boycott on inventory of other chains?

My son-in-law works for S&S and is getting as much overtime as he can handle. Come in early, stay late...no questions asked and they are feeding them meals also.

I have been shopping at a different S&S and hate every minute of it. Only buying what we truly need and moving on. My husband wanted a block of swiss cheese (I buy it at MB) every few weeks. Well, nine ounces of swiss cheese at S&S was $7.69 whereas I generally pay $3-4 at MB depending on the size I buy. Needless to say, no swiss cheese entered this house.

I don't know where this whole mess is going to land, but if MB is bought out by a big company I would guess we would see major prices increases. Fingers crossed that it's resolved soon for all affected.

Del Frisco's Steakhouse

Thanks. My friend has a daughter that works there and raves about it so I thought I would give it a try. Never mind I guess we'll stick with Pellana in Peabody.

Del Frisco's Steakhouse

What can you tell me about it? Is it your typical Boston steakhouse? Anything outstanding? Is it worth a trip from the suburbs for a special occasion to go there....a steak lover has a birthday coming up.

Thanks!!

Impromptu Gathering in Rte 93 north area

What about Venetian Moon in Reading? I haven't been, but from what I understand they owned Scosso at the No. Shore Mall (now closed) and they had great martini's and small plates. We always ate at the bar, but I understand their food in Reading is good, at least from the reviews.

Impromptu Gathering in Rte 93 north area

I like the Yard House, but as far as talking and hearing each other.....ah no.

Every time I've been in that place it's been so loud we just about have to yell across the table.

Of course, I generally go on a Thursday so maybe it would be quieter at the beginning of the week, but with the tv's blaring in there, I just don't know.

Norwood area lunch

Legacy Place might be the way to go. Thanks. Since we really don't know the area, that never would have occurred to us.

It seems the distance would be about the same for both of us.

Thanks to everyone for their other suggestions. Ethic places might be tricky since we would have to agree on what we would be willing to eat/try.

Norwood area lunch

My sister in law lives on the south shore (think Plymouth area). I live on the north shore (Danvers area). We would like to meet for lunch. We thought Norwood might be about 45 minutes for both of us.

Any suggestions for a decent lunch place that will let us sit and not be rushed?

Buffet Brunch for Father's Day

We're going to the Taj. Good, bad or indifferent that's it. He seems happy enough so that's all that matters. After all, it will be Father's Day!!

Buffet Brunch for Father's Day

It was set up very differently and it just seemed to not have the selection that it had in the past. We hadn't been there in quite a while either.

Some of it was the same, i.e. pasta station and omelet station. The roast been was good, tender, flavorful but they somehow managed to cut it as thin as a piece of paper. Even though beef is never my first choice even I could have eaten more than one sliver.

I, truthfully, had a difficult time finding food to eat. The shrimp was plentiful along with other seafood options.

I just don't know I just didn't get the same vibe as in the past.

For the price, we won't be going back.

Buffet Brunch for Father's Day

My dh loves buffet brunches (me, not at all). But it will be Father's Day and we would like to accommodate his wish. I am at a loss as to where to take him and two adult children. It can be either Boston or the North Shore. Price not so much a concern as where to go at this point.

Any suggestions?

polar seltzer seasonal sorcery continues

So far, raspberry mojito was too minty and not fruity enough for my taste. Blueberry lemonade was ok but needed more lemon and not good enough for me for a second purchase. The pomegranate sangria didn't taste like cough drops to me, it might be a do again.

Haven't tried the cucumber melon (up in the air about that flavor). Don't like mango flavor so will probably skip that one.

Will probably stick to the basics I prefer, although I am willing to try the seasonal flavors at least once (or some of them anyway).

Chicken salad

Would prefer to make my own. Usually too much mayo for my taste in already prepared chicken salad.

Are any of the ones mentioned light on the mayo?

Wedding venue

Tupper Manor in Beverly Farms is a lovely setting. I don't know what day of the week your daughter is thinking about, but it might be late for wedding venues unless you just go with a restaurant with the type of setting they are looking towards.

My daughter is getting married this year and she booked a year ago.

Good luck in your search.

Wahlburgers

Someone recently mentioned to me that they would be opening a new place at the Lynnfield Marketplace.

We were at the plaza last night and the parking lefts much to be desired although we do go to eat there once in a while.

I assume everyone will think it's a welcome addition.

Dinner near Seaport on Saturday 2/15

Not going to make a suggestion other than what others have mentioned, make a reservation. Friday is Valentine's Day and I would think some people would go out to dinner on Saturday night instead so it might be crazy busy in some of these restaurants.

With Hilltop almost gone, what is now the most Iconic Boston Area Restaurant?

The Continental is in a time warp although not in a bad way. Their food is decent and some of their specials are quite good.

I have never eaten in the dining room, only the bar. They still give you chicken wings, fritters (?), bean dip and popovers before the meal. Very old school, but charming in a way. The majority of servers seems like they have been there for quite some time.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back there. Much better food than what the Hilltop offered, from what I hear, in the past few years.

Anything good to eat at Market St. Lynnfield?

I have been to the Yardhouse a few times, once when they had a private invite only opening. Two other times with friends, once we all had burgers that we more than decent and we complained the fries were cold and were immediately given new fries and offered a complimentary dessert.

The next time we just had their 1/2 prices apps and a drink. I believe they call their restaurant upscale, casual. I, personally, think it's pricey for what it is...very noisy, not the place to go if you want to have a conversation with someone without screaming across the table. But as far as food no real complaints.

Will I be a regular there? No, but once in a while perhaps.

Haven't been to Wagamama in Lynnfield, only Boston. I wasn't impressed. My husband liked it, maybe just not really my type of food. I didn't care too much for the seating aspect. I don't share tables well with strangers, again me.

I have been in the candy store and they are very overpriced, but we need to remember the town the mall is in. We went to Starbucks there yesterday and all the little school girls were in there with their Uggs on and buying their coffee and lemonade. Not that I'm profiling or anything.

I doubt I will spend too much time at this mall since I think the parking will become a nightmare closer to the holidays and once King's opens.

JMO everyone.
