Review? Porthole Restaurant-Lynn

Awful, the last time I went....years ago.

Best Fried Clams nearThe Colonade Hotel

By the sounds of your post you don't want to travel too far.

But if its a nice day and you're up for a ride Bob Lobster in Newbury right before Plum Island has delicious fried clams. Not greasy and generous servings.

If you search this board, you will see recent postings. Enjoy!!

Bob's Lobster-Plum Island

We went to Bob's today for lunch since it was beautiful out.

One of us had the lobster roll and I had a clam roll. Both were excellent. Clams were not greasy and I had to have help eating them the roll had so many clams. My only complaint would be the tartar sauce. It needed something. Maybe a bit of lemon juice? But all in all, it was worth the trip and definitely a do-again.

Burton's Grill

We received a gift card to Burton's Grill at Christmas. The person that gifted it to us loves this place. They usually go to the Peabody location.

I know nothing about Burton's food except what she has told me and sometimes she and I eat quite differently.

Anyone have first hand knowledge of Burton's? What dish they enjoyed the most and what location they think is good and/or better than another one? I have read some reviews from another source and they are all over the place so I thought I would come to the experts.

Thanks, in advance, for any comments, good, bad or indifferent.

Legal Seafoods (sigh)

Never liked Legal and don't know how people go and pay their prices. To those that enjoy it, glad you have had good meals....me, never.

Santarpio's still rocks!

Had pizza once from Peabody location....never again.

Breakfast Sausages served at Marriott Hotel

Did you try calling the hotel and asking? Usually most places are very generous with their sources. Good luck!

I'm in love with Gingerbread Construction Company's muffins!

I do like their muffins, but we recently purchased one of their coffeecakes and it was a disappointment especially for the price. Was very dry and had not a great taste. Live and learn, I will stick to the muffins although we don't get there too often.

Canned clam chowder on North Shore

They sell Legal's Clam Chowder at BJ's and maybe, Costco. Don't know if its possible to pack it in dry ice for the flight. But Legal's chowder is not too bad even from BJ;s and it freezes well. Just a thought. Obviously, its not canned.

Help! Any Suggestions for Daughters 16th Birthday Dinner??

My daughter always liked Fire and Ice when she was that age. Was not my first choice, but it was her birthday.

Least awful Canobie Lake dining option?

My 26 year old daughter goes to Canobie with her boyfriend and his nieces once a year.

She packs a cooler and they take a break from all the noise and go to the car to have lunch.

3pm on a Saturday?

What about the Oak Bar? A drink and a couple of appetizers. Its very quiet unless you are looking for people watching too. If you just want to sit and talk to each other it will probably be close to empty. Pricey, though.

Best Pizza on North Shore???

Santarpio's in Peabody should be a different thread, i.e., worst pizza on north shore. I live in Peabody and haven't talked to anyone who likes their pizza from the Peabody store. JMO

Where can i find BISCOFF spread??

I bought it at MB in Danvers yesterday 2/$6.00. I love Biscoff cookies. Right now, the jury is out here on the spread.

Bulk Lobster Tails (150)

I know you seem to want "elegant" and that's a nice plan, but did you ever think of some type of a clambake. I know they do them with lobsters and probably not filet, but steak of some sort. Alot of them handle other details, such as the tent, dishes, glassware, etc. and then you could find a bartender.

I would think a wedding reception like that would fit your budget. I know they have pit style and pot style although I really don't know the difference. I also believe it would be a whole lobster, but maybe they would be willing to crack them and just serve the tails. I suppose all you can do is ask. Have them save the claws for some nice lobster salad the next day.

Just another thought. Hope your day works out perfectly for you.

I Pazzi, Danvers

I'll respond to my own post since we went here before anyone commented.

It was very good and the service was attentive. We went early in the evening about 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday so it wasn't overly crowded and to top it off it was a rainy, nasty night.

I had a pasta dish with littleneck clams. They had different size offerings so I chose the smaller size. It was enough that I wasn't too full. Other half had a special that evening which was a lamb shank and he raved about it. We both had decaf coffee (very strong) and a dessert. I don't even remember what I had for dessert, but it was good.

It certainly would be a go again place for us. My dh gets stuck on one restaurant that he likes so he wants to keep going back to it over and over again. I was on a mission to broaden his horizon somewhat and its actually worked.

Along Route 1 South in Danvers Peabody Saugus--anything?

Hop off and go to 466 in Danvers. Right at the start of old route 1. Definitely not gourmet, but not a bad selection and everything is pretty good. You can even sit in the bar area if so inclined since
the restaurant area is close quarters.

Teresa's of Middleton

Well, Treb you are nicer than I am. Unfortunately, even though I know everyone can have a bad night I'm not good at giving restaurants second chances. I think if you as the restaurant employee is having a difficult night....sorry but just suck it up, slap that smile on your face and go about your job.

Did you mean Gaven's? Yes, they went away because they too got too big for their britches. I recently ran into the bartender who use to work there, she now is a server at 9 Elm in Danvers. What goes around, comes around as they say.

Teresa's of Middleton

If you have someone as a host and they can't handle busy then they are in the wrong profession. Not only that, I also e-mailed the restaurant and have not heard a word from them so that tells me what they think of their clientele.

I am not going to beat this to death, but personally, I think no excuses can be made for them. I thank everyone for their support. Restaurants and all businesses need to be shown that they can't treat people any old way they please and expect you to take it and walk away quietly and then go back again.

Teresa's of Middleton

Food or no food it was more their attitude. Your first impression of a restaurant. When you see your name crossed out of a reservation book and they had a phone number and didn't call to say an error was made then as far as I am concerned they can be a five star restaurant and they had their shot with me and didn't work to correct it. We didn't go there to have pizza. That's ok. There are plenty of better restaurants from what I am now reading on here. I will do my part for them and tell everyone be afraid.....be very afraid.

Teresa's of Middleton

Well, I e-mailed them and apparently what happened doesn't bother them so that says alot about this restaurant. So far there has been no response and this happened two days ago. So I will pass the word to everyone I know and they now know not to bother eating at Teresa's. I guess they figure they only lost two customers with their attitude. Hopefully, there will be many more than that since I passed the word at work today since everyone was asking me how I liked Teresa's.

Teresa's of Middleton

Lately, we have decided to stay local on the weekends. We are trying various restaurants along the North Shore. Well, so many people have talked about Teresa's we decided to go there. During the week, my husband called and made a reservation for 2 people.

Well, last time we walked into the restaurant, up to the podium and he said we had a reservation for two. No you don't we only take reservations for 6 or more. He pointed to his name in the reservation book seeing that it had been crossed out. No one told him when he made this reservation there were restrictions. There was a 45 minute wait unless we wanted to eat in the bar which didn't look too inviting. Needless to say we left...never to return with that attitude. To quote Seinfeld "You know how to take the reservation, but don't know how to hold the reservation." Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel it was more their error than ours and they could have seated us and explained their policy for the next time. Anyway, it doesn't matter because there won't be a next time.

Maybe we are missing out on terrific food...I don't know. But I don't need attitude when I walk into a place. Bye, bye Teresa's.

I Pazzi, Danvers

Anyone been to this restaurant? Any comments? Heard good reviews from various people but most of them have been friend of a friend went there, but no reviews from someone who had actually eaten there. Thanks.

Best / Favorite 5 restaurants on North Shore??

We went to 9 Elm in Danvers last weekend and it was very good. Of course, dh isn't too daring so, of course, he had steak. It came with potato and mushroom gratin and very nice veggies. I had their seared scallops, with truffle mashed and the same veggies. I had key lime tart with whipped cream and a couple of raspberries on it and he has his usual creme brulee. But we decided it will be a go again. Good attentive service and the food was excellent. They only have a beer and wine license, but that doesn't bother me since I usually only get wine. But if that's a concern for you be prepared.

Where to dine after taking my kids to Coco Key (in the Crowne Plaza), Danvers?

Go to 466 much better than Supino's. Supino's always smells musty to me. Haven't gone back in quite a while. Have fun at Coco Key!!

I would second Choate Bridge Pub and we also like the Lazy Dog in Wyoma Square in Lynn once in a while.

Pubs North of Boston

I am not sure I would call the following two places pubs...dives maybe, but they have good food. Brodies on Main Street in Peabody and Champions on Foster Street in Peabody. Both very close to each other so if one is too crowded you can go to the other one.

Santarpio's Peabody

We had a cheese pizza (take-out) on Tuesday. I've had better and won't rush back there again.

Near Intercontinental Hotel, where to have dinner

We are staying Saturday night at the Intercontinental, going to 9:30 p.m. Jerry Seinfeld show at the Wang *Citi Center". Need to find dinner in between. We plan to leave the car at the hotel so I don't want to spent the night taking cabs. What's good within walking distance of the Intercontinental or on the other end the Wang? I am not that familiar with those areas of Boston. Looking forward to your recommendations. No Chinese, please.

What is it with Massachusetts and steak tips?

I'm a Peabody girl and I have to agree with Steve, Champions has Brodie's beat with the tips, but Brodie's has great chicken wings.
