Dinner in Montreal tomorrow night

Thanks for all the intel. We actually went over to Le Vin Papillon at 7:20 and sat right down. There were two empty tables. 20 minutes later or so, there were a lot of people waiting, but I'd say they'd all been seated within 30 min of that.

The food was delicious. My favorites were the lobster and crudites with aioli, and the grilled girolles and potatoes. We also had the rabbit liver and the clams. Both also excellent.

The apricot financier for dessert was so moist and delicious.

Dinner in Montreal tomorrow night

So are you saying that 45-60 min would be an expected wait at VP very early or very late, or that it's about what you'd expect any time? I'm from NYC, so for a popular restaurant, that actually sounds incredibly reasonable to me!

Dinner in Montreal tomorrow night

I am visiting Montreal Thurs-Sun, and have one meal that isn't planned yet, Thursday dinner. Last time I was up there I tried Le Chien Fumant on the basis of chowhound recommendations. Loved the cocktails and the food.

I'd like to try something new in the same vein. Plateau is preferable, but we can go anywhere. Based on what I've been reading on other threads, I'm considering Hotel Herman (but do I need a reservation?), or Le Vin Papillon seems like an obvious choice, but I'm not sure I want to deal with a long line. How early does one need to arrive there and what is the wait time like?

Last, I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a ton of meat. Some fish and veggie options are preferable.

Roberta's good for lunch? (Or other lunch suggestions in area?)

Is Roberta's in Bushwick good for lunch?

I need to find a good place for 8 people to have lunch for about $15 per person (including tax, tip, non-alcoholic beverage) in that general neighborhood.

What about Life Café? Would we be able to get seats? We do not all need to sit together.

Three Days (I Promise I've Done My Homework)

I agree. I am pescatarian, and I had an amazing sea food platter when I went to Au Pied de Cochon. It was pretty fantastic. That said, there are so many wonderful restaurants in Montreal. I don't think you must go to Au Pied de Cochon.

Need a special cake in Norwalk, CT area

My mother's 70th birthday is in a couple weeks, and I need to order a cake that will feed about 25-30 people and be absolutely delicious. It does not need to look particularly fancy, but it must taste great. I'm thinking traditional flour-based cake, vanilla or some other light flavor, not cheese cake or carrot cake, etc. I also definitely want butter cream frosting and not whipped cream or any other topping.

What do people think of the cakes from SoNo bakery? Does anyone have any experience with The Cake Boutique in Wilton? I notice on their website that they offer an almond option which would be great. Almond is one of my mother's favorite flavors. She also loves raspberries, apricots, coconut, and chocolate. However, I do not want to get an all chocolate cake. One layer of chocolate and a non-chocolate layer would be fine.

I am willing to drive up to half an hour to get the best cake that I can.

Advice?

Manhattan Sports Bar to see the Yankees??

I'm attempting to bump this up. I'm looking for some place with better food than Fiddlesticks, but in the same general neighborhood (within 10-15 min. walk of Union Sq.) and where I'll be assured of a good view of the game. RUB looks good, but I'm worried the televisions are sort of an after thought there.

Mezcal, New Haven- kid friendly?

Thinking of going to Mezcal in New Haven tonight with my friend and her toddler. Is the kid going to be a problem? What's the atmosphere like there?

Blue Hill/X20/School House at Cannondale

We went to the Schoolhouse at Cannondale, and I'm so glad that we did. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, and the setting was romantic. I would definitely recommend it to chowhounders.

Blue Hill/X20/School House at Cannondale

One more quick question, does my boyfriend need to wear a tie to the Schoolhouse? A jacket? What's the dress code like.

Blue Hill/X20/School House at Cannondale

I'm trying to decide on a place for a special anniversary dinner on Thursday night. Right now I'm leaning toward Blue Hill at Stone Barns because I've been to their Village location and know that it is excellent. However, after searching around this board, I'm also intrigued by X20 and the School House at Cannondale. I'm in Norwalk, so SHC would be the most convenient for me, but this is the first I've heard of it.

Factors going in to the decision: First and foremost, excellent food, of course. Romantic, pleasant setting. I'd love to get a good, three-course meal and a bottle of wine for under $200, but if it's worth it, I can pay a little more. I eat fish, but I do not eat poultry or other meats, and my boyfriend eats everything, so I do want there to be at least one fish main dish.

And finally, I want to make a reservation for 9 or 8:30 at the earliest. So it needs to be a place that won't rush us out, if it starts to get a little late.

Those are the three restaurants that I'm deciding between, but I'm open to other suggestions. It just has to be within an hour's drive (and preferably closer to 45 min.) from Norwalk, CT.

Dinner around 55th and 6th Ave.

I'm looking for a good, inexpensive (approx $20 pp) place to have dinner within a few blocks of 55th St. and 6th Ave. Any type of cuisine is fine, but vegetarian options are a must.

Best restaurants in Hartford, West Hartford?

Thank you so much for the Vaughn's recommendation. I ate their this afternoon and loved it. Great atmosphere, great beer, and great fish and chips! My friend had the meatloaf sandwich and said it was delicious.

Breakfast/Brunch between Waterbury and Danbury

I need a place to have Breakfast/Brunch with about 10 people on Sunday morning somewhere between Waterbury and Danbury. It can't be anything too expensive or formal. A diner with good, reliable fare would be fine.

Great Breakfast at B&B

I am looking for a B&B in New England that really makes an outstanding breakfast. My preference is for non-fussy, modern decor and rooms that have real fireplaces, but my primary concern is the breakfast.
