kid friendly restaurants with good food?

We have 5 year old twins - so it's not easy going out to dinner. Any suggestions for kid friendly restaurants with good food?

Best croissant from Chicago bakery

same with Vanille. Also voted the Best Croissant in Chicago by chicago Tribune!

Best cupcakes in town?

Have you tried Swirlz? I think it's on Belden. Interesting and intense flavors. they are about $3 per cupcake, but if you're in the mood for a good tasting cupcake it's worth it! Cute little shop too. they serve juices and coffee drinks.

try a new restaurant....

We don't get out much since my husband and I work 6 days/week. We want to try a new restaurant - any sugestions? Here's where we have already been.... Tru, Bistro Campagne, KiKi's Bistro, Bistro 110, VTK, Red Light, Drake Hotel, Green Zebra, Coast Sushi. Any cuisine is fine. Price range - around $200 for two. Thanks.

Chicago's Best

I can't beleive no one has recommended the Green Zebra! A must go restaurant. The food is prepared perfectly with full-on flavor and the service we had there was immpecable. Very knowledgeable staff who knows what the food tastes like - and they can recommend wine pairings as well.

Where to go this friday for great food, a bottle of good wine, for less than $150/person?

Green Zebra. I highly recommend it. Interesting menu everything prepared correctly with full-on flavor. Make a reservation though. Very cozy.

Best High Tea in City for Holidays?

Go to the Drake for tea. They are open 7 days a week for tea, but make a reservation especially during the holidays. it's a hcicago traiditon to visit the Drake for tea. you must go.

Any tips for making a great Bernaise Sauce?

Use clarified butter. Heat up your butter and skim off any particals from the top - the rest will sink to the bottom. Pour the clarified butter into a clean bowl and use it to make your bearnaise sauce.
When you amke the sauce you need to whisk it over a warm water bath and slowly stream the clarified butter into it. (starting with your vinegar/tarragon base).
If it starts to break, take a tablespoon of cold water and put it into 1/3 of the mixture. Once this small amount starts to come together, slowly pour the broken mixture into it in a steady stream while whisking. this is a sure fix.
Be sure to season with salt and pepper.
Use this sauce immediately. It cannot hold. UNLESS...you cheat and add a tablespoon of mayonnaise. The Mayonnaise acts as a binder/stabilizer so the fat and vinegar won't separate.
Good Luck.

1st Chicago Visit - Shopping Spree on N. Mich. Ave. - Please help plan my trips! (not the same as equinoise's post)

You must go to the Drake Hotel - atleast for afternoon tea (make a reservation). It's a tradition in Chicago to go for tea especially during the holidays. you won't be disappointed.
For a great lunch or dinner - try Bistro 110. It's perfectly cooked French bistro style cuisine. I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer in a grainy mustard sauce. Yum. the French onion soup has broiled cheese on top that will warm you to your toes!
Have a great time in Chicago. Bon appetite.

Birthday Dinner for Group of 10-15

In Bucktown there's a great sushi place called Coast. their menu includes serveral cooked dishes that are just amazing. The atmosphere is cool and chic.
have you tried Socca? 3301 N. Clark St. the chef creates some interesting dishes with great flair and zest!

favorite dessert

What is your favorite dessert in the city and where is it from?

New Yorker wants to know what's up with breakfast

Voted best croissant in Chicago - you must visit Vanille Patisserie 2229 N. Clybourn Ave. almond croissants are my favorite as well as the coffee eclairs.

Quick help needed around Fullerton and Clybourn for lunch

Have you tried Sweet & Savories? It's on Fullerton right at the corner of Fullerton/Ahsland/Clybourn. Or stop by Pequod's for lunch - really good pizza and then head to Vanille for a cappucino and amazing dessert!
