Porto's Bakery - what kicks ass?
There are a couple mousses in the display case of the sandwich line area which rock: cappuccino (not sure about the name) mousse & a raspberry chocolate mousse.
The Tiramisu cake is delicious. We buy it for birthdays on a regular basis.
The pear danish kicks butt. Chocolate croissant is yum. The dulce de leche kiss cookies are great.
I love every sandwich I've eaten at Portos, especially the Portos Veggie and the Cubano.
My absolute favourite thing at Portos is their ham croquettes. I like them even more than the potato balls. Be prepared though: they are VERY rich.

I second Diner Deluxe in Calgary, and Stella's in Winnipeg.

I would say about 60% of the food my mom made was in the pressure cooker. I remember all of the meat done that way being incredibly moist and tender.

I've used tofu in place of some or all of the cheese in lasagne as well. I crumbled mine, and it always turned out really well.

I completely forgot about Salsa & Beer. Their Carne Adovado (Adovado?) is delicious.

What is Your Favorite Non-Foodie Thanksgiving Dish?
My mom would always make spinach dip with dried vegetable soup mix, sour cream and mayo in a hollowed out pumpernickel loaf, with the displaced bread to dip with. Also homemade nuts and bolts.

What I do remember fondly was one of my college friends buying a carton of eggs and some onions regularly. He'd made a big pan of scrambled eggs and invited all of us starving students over. We'd have it for dinner with a cheap Chilean red and numerous handrolled cigarettes.

That recipe is so rich and delicious. I took it to Thanksgiving dinner last year, along with two other mashed potato versions (plain and garlic), and the Barefoot Contessa's parmesan smashed was devoured.

I went to the newly opened Burbank Henry's last weekend. It reminded me of a cross between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. I was really impressed with the selection of produce and the prices.
How many different knives do you use daily ?
Hiromoto Santoku, generic serrated paring knife, and a steak knife. I use scissors fairy often as well.

Best Fish and Chips?
I really like the fish and chips at the Pig and Whistle, next to the Egyptian theater. It's beer battered halibut, and in my opinion, delicious.

the Sherman Room on Sherman Way for steaks???
I've been to the Sherman Room once, but I only had a burger. The burger had an unpleasant charred flavor, as if the grill hadn't been cleaned in some time. The decor and atmosphere are an interesting trip back in time though.
As an aside, my favorite steak place is Damon's in Glendale. Also a trip back in time, of the tiki variety. Good steaks and great maitais.

Vita Health in Winnipeg has lots of healthy groceries and a few locations, including one in Osborne Village.

I would have said deal breaker a few years ago, but then I met this wonderful man who likes bland food (his mom's british, what can I say? :P) and married him. Now it does mean that I'm not always eating the food I like when we cook together, but his horizons are expanding. Even if he is a picky eater, he will try new foods.
What foods do restaurants most frequently mess up?
I agree with Eggs Benedict. I've had heaven or hell on a plate.
