Great Food & Wine Avenue/St.Clair area

Spuntini is nearby - on Avenue just south of Davenport. Good food, wine, service and atmosphere.

Good Food in Hamilton?!

I really enjoy Koosh Bistro on King St. W. Very cozy atmosphere with good pizza and pasta and nice variety of daily specials.

Union Burger

There is one opening in Grimsby. Should I be looking forward to it?

What do you like to cook for yourself when your spouse or family isn't around?

Linguine with white clam sauce. It was too painful watching him pick out the clams when I would make it for both of us.

Niagara Good Food Fair

is now open every Sunday from 11-2 at the Thomas & Vaughan winery site in Beamsville through the summer. Stopped by today again. Here is a photo of today's menu. I had the grilled cheese with cheddar and prosciutto on a delicious multiseed sourdough bread and the peachy lemonade.

It appears the vendors vary from week to week, and it does seem to be growing. Tawse Winery was there selling heirloom tomatoes, potatoes and other produce. de la Terre bakery was there as well as other local farmers. The fellow selling corn said it would be the best corn I have ever had, and it was the sweetest I can remember having.

A couple weeks ago Rosewood Vineyards was there with their variety of honey products. I highly recommend it as a terrific stop for those doing the west niagara wine route.

Jordan Ontario Dining Recommendations Please

Here are some recommendations for the area: The Jordan House which is run by the same owners of On the Twenty is very good, casual food. Lots of items made in house. About Thyme Bistro is just down the street. De la Terre Bakery opened recently just next door. Check out Upper Canada Cheese Company. In Beamsville there is August Restaurant both for lunch and dinner.

A new place opened this month in Grimsby (about a 15 min. drive from Jordan) called Casa Toscana - here is a little blurb from the local paper: the doors to the newest shop in downtown Grimsby, Casa Toscana. Located at 16A Main St. W., the shop will offer all authentic Tuscan products, that are shipped straight from Tuscany, including olive oils, balsamic vinegars, terracotta bowls and more. I haven't been in to check it out yet.

Enjoy your stay!

Good Eats in Stoney Creek

The Memphis Fire Barbeque Company opened on # 8 in Winona last month. Haven't been there yet, but have heard good things. They are billing themselves as a Diners, Drivethrus and Dives type of place. Will probably check it out this weekend.

Niagara wine region

also Malvoire and Daniel Lenko Wineries. About Thyme Bistro or August for lunch.

best brunch places in Toronto?

Niagara St. Cafe for brunch is great - some different menu choices, nice patio, relaxing atmosphere, good coffee.

All U Can Eat Lobster, Port Dalhousie

Went to Portview Restaurant (formerly Marie's Seafood) in Port Dalhousie last weekend. They have an all you can eat lobster special - $50. They start you off with a 2 lb. lobster and some potato salad. Then another 2 lb lobster and then 1 pounders after that. The lobsters were very sweet, cooked perfectly and huge. The 2nd lobster they brought me looked closer to 2-1/2 lbs. And one of the people with me was offered a 2 lb. for his third helping.

Do not eat anything else if you go there (well, the bread was pretty good). Go strictly for the lobster, the rest is pretty bleh. And go hungry!! I asked who had eaten the most since they have had the special and i was told 12 lbs at lunch. pretty gross.

If you love lobster it is worth the trip.

Did anyone go to summerlicious 2009?

also, for the $25 at boulevard cafe and $35 at rosebud it was WELL worth it!

enjoy!!

Did anyone go to summerlicious 2009?

Had 2 summerlicious dinners last week. Boulevard Cafe and The Rosebud. Would have gone to either regardless of summerlicious.

BC had regular menu available plus non-summerlicious specials. The patio was packed. I was the only one from our group that had s'licious menu and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. They were out of a couple of items by the time I got there. The appetizer: Humita - Fresh corn and basil steamed in a corn husk and served with salsa criolla was really good. Sort of like a corn chowder flavour without the chowder. sweet and comforting. The fish of the day was grilled tuna or cod. I had the cod, it had a light breading on it which I wasn't really expecting so I guess it was pan fried. Tasty nonetheless. I hadn't been there in a while and the bread is still my favourite in Toronto.

The Rosebud will never fail to please - we both had the mussels in a saffron tomato broth for apps - the bread had a nice salty crust, then short ribs with polenta (dense, flavourful, rich) and salmon which was cooked perfectly with the most light crispy skin - wonderful. Both desserts were over the top delicious - creme brule (my favourite and this one was unbelievable) and a fruit cobbler.

Wondering about a few Niagara area restos

Anyone been to 13 Mountain St in Grimsby, The Kitchen House in Beamsville (located at Peninsula Ridge Winery) or Marie's Seafood in Port Dalhousie lately?

Twenty Bench area - need lunch recos

August Restaurant in Beamsville or East Dell Winery (terrific view)

On the Way to Niagra

The drive will be closer to 90 minutes, more if there is traffic. I would suggest August in Beamsville. It is just 5 munutes from the QEW. Make sure you exit at Ontario St. Beamsville (exit #64) not to be confused with the Ontario St. exit for Grimsby. NOTL is about 20 minutes from Beamsville.

Best Chinese Lobster in the GTA?

Wah Sing on Baldwin St. was always a favourite of mine.

Diners, drive-ins and dives

I've maybe been there once in the last 6 months but it was still really good.

Diners, drive-ins and dives

D Hot Shoppe in Burlington is ***SO*** D,D&d!! Awesome Trinidadian food - roti, curry, jerk, etc., super dumpy, plus friendly, outgoing, charming staff. A "touch" of hot sauce is all i need for a good kick.

Another Burlington contender for DDD is Sammy's Donair - salty and spicy with a sweet-ish sauce, yum!

sushi in oakville/burlington?

My choice in burlington would be Ichiban Sushi House
www.ichibansushi.com
or more casual is Bento Box - you order at the counter but they do table service. The menu there has really grown over the years. Staff is very friendly at both. Both are on Fairview St.

Best pub food in Burlington/Oakville area..

Judge & Jury at Walkers and Mainway in Burlington is one of my favourites. Big menu and I have never been disappointed. friendly staff too.

Oisi Oyster

anyone been there lately? Or can you recommend another midtown sushi place.

"Spicy" restaurant

"Spicy" restaurant

I read somewhere about a "spicy" resaurant in Toronto and can not remember now. The chef trained in Jamaica and is known for his spicing of food. Anyone?

late Aug to Oct food festivals in SWO

There is the Ribfest in Burlington - Labour Day weekend. A very busy festival, be prepared for long lines or try going at off hours. ribs are usually pretty good.

Green Eggplant in the Beach

I had a chicken pesto sandwich that was so-so. The salads were very large and looked really good. The paella (I think that is what it was - rice, chicken, sausage) was also enjoyed by my friend. the 3 different eggplant dips that they bring to the table were probably everyone's favourite part of the meal.

Favourite Niagara wineries to visit?

Sadly, Daniel Lenko's mom passed away this winter. The winery is open on the weekends during the summer, but I believe you need an appointment during the week.

We had a very good meal at Peninsula Ridge recently. The Jordan House now has "lodging" available. It is run by the same people as Inn On The Twenty.

Lemongrass review (Hamilton)

Bahn Thai is great. Was just there for lunch today! Very reasonable lunch specials and amazingly fast service.

Looking forward to B&T opening in Burlington soon.. I love their green curry tofu bowl.
