Harbor steak and seafood in mamaroneck
He has and it's gorgeous inside. I haven't eaten there yet - going in a couple weeks - but have heard good things. I walked through one night coming back from the city and it was hopping.
Harbor steak and seafood in mamaroneck
Oh come on Cubanat. You can't just name all the awful restaurants in Mamaroneck and then call it a day. Btw - all of those are out of business. Not so in Rye. As for proximity to Port Chester's food us "southerners" are closer to Manhattan and Queens so there! : ) Anyway, I think we can all agree that decent isn't what CHers are looking for. For the record imo Meze is better than decent. Of course I'd love to have restaurants like The Cookery here, Farmer and the Fish and other inventive/creative/fresh places but no one seems to want to make that investment down our way. I think the Barnacle space is still available... Anyone?
Harbor steak and seafood in mamaroneck
Saw it too. The name doesn't sound inspired or interesting and taking on a space of that size seems "franchise-y" to me. I'm not optimistic but hope I'm wrong. Guess I should just be happy it isn't Pan-Asian.
With respect to your last comment mark,
"We need something decent around here."
We do have some decent food around here. We have some long standing restaurants that are very good - Turkish Meze, Le Provencal to name a couple. And, while not all of the new and new-ish restaurants on the Avenue are hits I'll take our choices over that of many up in these parts. Mamaroneck may not be Manhattan or Brooklyn but it isn't Rye either.
City Limits Diner, White Plains
I agree with you Shawn. Just not worth it. The prices and many of the items imply they see themselves as more than a diner but unfortunately the food often fails to deliver and many times isn't even as good as a diner. I've had some good food there and some very disappointing food. I will still go on occasion if it's the most central place to meet for a breakfast, White Plains not exactly overflowing with breakfast spots and an occasional lunch or casual dinner but I find that most times I leave with the same thoughts, "Why did I/we come here again?" and "Did I/we really just pay $____ for that?!"
Westchester Bat Mitzvah
Thanks for the suggestions HamTech. I'm hoping for something in the southeast or central part of the county if possible and also a place that is out of the ordinary for bar/bat mitzvah's - a place with a little something, something untraditional that isn't a b'nai mitzvah destination. Also, more about the kids than the adults. Any thoughts down this way?
Westchester Bat Mitzvah
Me too rk1. Looking for different types of options for a somewhat smaller crowd (I think, haven't done a count) but a fun and different place for DJ, dancing. Not over the top, not cheesy, not a sit down dinner suitable for a wedding location, not a country club. Does this exist in Westchester?
Cozy First Date Place by Larchmont Train Station?
Not helpful for Katonah but if you go with Larchmont should there be a date #2, Plates on Myrtle, walkable from train and not cheap but not as pricey as it might seem and not pub-ish casual but not fancy either. Another option, Watercolor Cafe on Boston Post Road - a bit longer walk but doable or a quick cab ride from the station. Often live music. Food not as good as plates but good and a very relaxed vibe.
IMO Turquoise food is just okay and the atmosphere not particularly warm or artsy.
A&P f/k/a Food Emporium Rye Brook
I'm in Mmk so I go to TJ's in Larchmont, Fairway in Pelham and now will go to WF in Port Chester. Doesn't get much better for those of us on the Sound Shore. Hope you guys up North hit the same grocery jackpot.
In White Plains...
Very interesting Lisa. Will be a nice change to have a non-pub option for drinks and a bite before or after a movie. Thanks for the info.
In White Plains...
Milonga has been open for a couple of years at their location in N. Broadway in WP. I doubt they are opening a second spot so would guess they are moving from that location to Mmk Ave.
A&P f/k/a Food Emporium Rye Brook
Word is that Whole Foods is going into the space where the A&P used to be in Port Chester. No need to brave the parking lot in WP anymore. I'm ecstatic.
Don Coqui's over the top reservation policy
Haven't been to Don Coqui - heard bad things from others - but if you're looking for Puerto Rican food there's another option. Ocho Siete Ocho is in New Rochelle too. It's in the spot where Mama Francesca's used to be. I heard the owner or chef or GM came from Don Coqui. I don't know if that's correct or if it is if there is any relationship - monetary or otherwise - between the two. However, we encountered a a very lovely accommodating staff from the hostess to the waitstaff and bussers and the managers. All seemed sincerely gracious and happy to have you there.
Food was very good and came in generous portions - we took home quite a bit. Prices were fair and atmosphere pleasant. We shall return.
WP - Sunshine Deli (Taqueria) to close
Very disappointing news Pabboy. We didn't get there often but loved it when we did. Wish I could help with a rec but I am located in between NR and PC so we still have some very good options.
starting to plan a party...need help/ideas!!
Hate to post just to be negative especially about a place I have not tried myself but I have not heard good things. A friend told me she'd been three times with different friends and all three times the food was not good and they didn't have most of the wines on the list - and it is a wine bar supposedly.
Resto Depot Finally Open in Port Chester!
Odd that you would have noticed and known what business occupied that space Sean. Are you an "alum"?
Party rentals
I only have experience with Alperson's so can only comment that I would recommend them. On time, fairly priced, decent selection.
Suggestions for Lunch in Tarrytown?
Lizbet, I am not a fan of Lefteris and find it mediocre at best. Better albeit not incredible Greek can be found a touch up the road in Sleepy Hollow at Santorini. In Tarrytown I'd highly recommend Tarry Tavern - American.
Best Pizza in Westchester (again)
I agree Lady. I've had excellent pies at Pepe's in Yonkers and once or twice not so good, in particularly one take-out incident that was inexcusable. I too am often on the "not as good as the original" train but overall Yonkers Pepe's and Pepe's in general is really good pizza, often exceptional which, as evidenced by the many mentioned of NYC pizza on a best in Westchester thread. is far better than most in these parts.
I'm guessing they have off nights/pies on Wooster street too but we're just not there to experience them.
75th Birthday Brunch - Suggestions Needed for Caterer Westchester County - Scarsdale
Thanks for all the suggestions. For various reasons we have decided to go with Silver Spoon. Special shout out to otisman for that. So far, so good. Craig has been a pleasure to work with, extremely responsive - prompt, accommodating and helpful. Will let you all know how it goes after the party.
Plates in Larchmont
Too late for OP but just want to add that I consider Plates a local gem - we live nearby. Food is overall very good and prices are reasonable considering the level of food and service. A couple of standouts are the flatbreads which change seasonally, the indulgent and delicious fettuccine appetizer and the creatively spiced duck with wheatberries. As Byram Girl said donuts are excellent and the rich, chocolatey, fudgey, ring ding is the stuff of dreams. Really - get an extra (or two) to take home since you'll be thinking about it for days afterward.
It can be a special occasion spot as it is quiet and refined but also good for a regular dinner out as the atmosphere - and general guest attire - is casual. Depending on what you order you can have a solid, excellent meal for two with appetizers, entrees and desserts for about $100 before tax//tip/alcohol.

Still deciding. Will keep you posted! Want to find out more - recommendations or not - about Sugar Bee if I can but Silver Spoon and Corner Stone look most interesting at the moment.

Pupuserias closed - where to get pupusas in Westchester?
My husband told me that there had been a sign in the window for a while stating that the O'Neill's pupusa lady had moved elsewhere - nearby in fact - but he couldn't recall the details so I will have to go in and see if anyone there knows where she is.
Elise, I've also heard that in PC - El Tesoro II has very good pupusas and have yet to try them. I live in Mmk so was thrilled to have the O'Neill's counter right nearby. With any luck she's still around.

The one in O'Neill's is gone?? I am bummed. Her pupusas were excellent.

Hey all - one more question - anyone have input on Sugar Bee catering in Larchmont? Someone recommended them to my sister. Thanks.
75th Birthday Brunch - Suggestions Needed for Caterer Westchester County - Scarsdale
Thanks smilingal but Classic is kosher and we don't require that so don't need to pay the premium for a kosher event. That said, my mom would be thrilled if we did kosher but it's not her party and the 75th birthday boy loves his pork products : )
75th Birthday Brunch - Suggestions Needed for Caterer Westchester County - Scarsdale
Thanks all. I'm waiting on a callback from Corner Stone and spoke with Silver Spoon who are putting together a proposal. A few other companies I'd appreciate feedback on if anyone has worked with them or attended one of their events. They are:
Caperberry in White Plains (full service caterer - awaiting proposal)
Tastefully Yours in Briarcliff Manor (not contacted yet)
Jean Jacques in Pleasantville (not contacted yet)
Scarborough Fair Catering, Bronxville (not contacted yet)
We are looking at a fairly traditional brunch buffet but high quality food - omelet station, pancakes or waffles, smoked fish and bagels, salads, desserts etc. and one stop shopping (food, tables, chairs, linens, flatware, plates, glasses, set up and breakdown, staff etc.) is also preferable.
Also, I haven't decided if we'll handle the cake ourselves or have the caterer do it but any input on cakes from any of the above would be great. I am currently thinking perhaps Riviera in Ardsley or Lulu's if we do ourselves but haven't used either.
