Kaffir Limes

sadly i went to the Sunny Market at Don Mills and they didn't have any kaffir limes. which one did you find them at?

On an unrelated note: the shrimp at the foxley sounds awesome!

Kaffir Limes

Thanks for the tip! will have to check it out and post my findings!

Kaffir Limes

I'm pretty well stocked with lime leaves, it's the fruit i'm looking for.

Kaffir Limes

Just got back from Vientiane Trading Co. and they won't have any kaffir limes in stock until July so I was wondering if anyone knew any place I could snag some in the meantime?

betel leaf

Gerrard and Broadview? I've looked through the supermarkets along gerrard and couldn't find it. Or at least nothing that looked like it.

betel leaf

I haven't checked Dundas/Spadina but will have a look. Perhaps a trip to T & T is in order as well.

betel leaf

i'm looking for fresh betel leaves (la lot in vietnamese) for a vietnamese beef recipe. checked broadview chinatown and they don't have any. Anyone seen the leaf anywhere in the city?

Black Hoof Cafe

you could tell they were flavourless by just looking at them? ;o)

Double Zero Flour for Pasta Making

Thanks, that's good to know since i'm down their a fair bit.

Double Zero Flour for Pasta Making

Went and picked up the flour from Meat on the Beach. How did I not know about this little gem of a place? Looking forward to going back. Thanks for the tip!

Double Zero Flour for Pasta Making

Thanks guys. Do you guys know if there are any spots around the danforth or leslieville where i could grab some? I'm guessing there might be a shop on college that might have some. Can anyone confirm that?

2010 closings

Not sure if this was mentioned in 2009's post (and if so i apologize) but i think Deep Blue Fish & Chips is gone.

Double Zero Flour for Pasta Making

After a quick scan of this board, I couldn't find any posts that matched my search. I was wondering if anyone knew of any places that sell 00 grade flour for pasta making.

Delivery places in Bloor West Village

My apologies, I heard somewhere you were affiliated. I'll fact check a little harder next time.

Local Kitchen & Wine Bar

wouldn't be in too much of a rush. I spoke with the proprietors today and they're still waiting on the liquor license thanks to the city workers' strike. They inform me that they're hoping to be open by the end of the month. That said, last night and tonight they're having an invite only food and wine pairing (hence the paper off the windows) that you may be able to crash if they have any space left. give the number on the website a call to find out.

Best Thai Restos in Toronto...

So I went to Caplansky's finally

Just spoke with Zane and his new place will be at 356 college street in the former home of the Rosio Bakery Cafe. And more good news: It'll have a patio and it's licensed!

German Restaurant in TO?

Second the musket! Food is top notch tedesco comfort food: huge smoked pork hock is my fave! The schnitzel is really good too.

Ed's Real Scoop Opening in Leslieville

Had the Mercury Espresso flavour...fantastic coffee flavour without being overly sweet. Ed went to Mercury and asked them for 32 oz of espresso for his ice cream and they said he could have it for free as long as he put Mercury in the name. Great community spirit. The Guinness ice cream is as good as Greg's stout ever was. On the whole as good if not better (since I live a couple blocks west in Riverside) than Greg's.

So I went to Caplansky's finally

here we go again. I would love it if all the close-minded Monarch haters would just avoid the place rather than complain about it CONSTANTLY and let the rest of us just get on with enjoying our meal in a fun, unpretentious evironment.

Weezies, Swan, Allens...

I've got to agree with you on the service at Allen's. The burger is good but I've never understood the raves and the only thing I can really point to for my middling assessment of it is a result of the underwhelming service. I like the burger at the Swan and haven't had Weezie's yet but I'm definitely curious considering the efflusive praise being heaped on it via this board.

Spicy Beef Noddle Soup

Is the noodle soup under discussion here the same or similar to Taiwanese Xin Ming Noodle soup? I lived in Chung Li for a summer an fell in love with this dish and would LOVE to find a place in the city that serves it or something similar.

Chinese Bakery at Broadview & Gerrard

Tung Hing has two locations. One on Broadview just south of Gerrard and one on Gerrard just east of Broadview. There's also Miao Ke Hong Bakery just south of Tung Hing. Both are good. I really enjoy the "big" steamed bun at Tung Hing. Otherwise the fare is interchangeable. Both offer decent, "utility" chinese buns.

Choose one of three for me...

agreed. the combo meal at Caplansky's (with poutine, natch) and a black cherry soda'll pretty much put you down for the count but what a tasty way to go...

Khao Soi Noodles

Have to agree with PP. The owners are gracious and welcoming and the food is top-shelf. going back this weekend for a khao soi fix.

Queen East Resto

Pic Nic isn't bad. or Table 17.

J-town is definitely worth the trip and always fun to combine with a visit to Pacific Mall. Great way to spend the day...
