Suggestions for College Send Off Dinner?
We are taking our daughter out to a mid-week dinner before she leaves for college. This is a special occasion so we are looking for suggestions of the "best" place to take her. The type of cuisine is not as important as selecting a place with wonderful food (and a nice ambiance if that's possible too). The only caveat is that she does not eat fish. For more of an idea of the type of place we are looking at, we've enjoyed the following restaurants in the past: Luques, Jar, AOC, Osteria Mozza, Campanile (or more casual places such as Border Grill, Nook, and Cobras and Matadors). Some of the places we were thinking of are BLT Steak, Craft, Cut, Grace, Hatfields, Sona, Spago and Valentine (we've been to the last two but she hasn't). We like to try new places, but would consider something we've been to before if that is the absolute best place to go. Any suggestions based on the places here or other ideas? Thanks!
College Students in City...
Sounds like fun. I don't know if these places hit all the points but here are a few suggestions. I would call to make sure that these places can accommodate your group on short notice.
Agave (140 7th Ave South New York, NY 10014) -- I've never been but friends have. This place has southwestern food and are known to be able to support bigger groups.
Blue Smoke (116 E. 27th Street between Park and Lex) -- I think this is a Danny Meyer (Gramercy Tavern) BBQ place. We really liked the potato chips here. Maybe be fun since there's live music downstairs.
John's of Bleecker Street (278 Bleecker St New York, NY 10014) -- Not sure if they could handle a group of 7 on Friday night. But, maybe there will be a suggestion for another great pizza place that can...
Katz's Deli (205 East Houston Street) -- I've only been in the day so I'm not sure of their hours, which are not posted on the website. But, great pastrami! Il Laboratorio del Gelato is also on the Lower East Side, but I'm not sure of their hours either.
La Bonne Soupe (48 West 55th Street between 5th and 6th avenues) -- I've had some great meals here with my family. I think there's a space upstairs that may be able to accommodate your group, and it's not too costly.
Peanut Butter & Co. Sandwich Shop (240 Sullivan Street, between Bleecker and West 3rd Streets, just 1 block south of Washington Square Park and NYU).
Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Great burgers in the park, but might not be the best bet if it's raining. I guess the lines might be shorter then.
Need recommendations for a group casual dinner on the Westside
We are planning to get together with a group of 7-10 people on Saturday evening (around 6 or 7pm). Ideally, we are looking for a casual place on the westside of LA or Westwood, Santa Monica, etc. But, we would be open to considering other areas. The type of cuisine is not as important as a place that has good food and is not too expensive. It would also be great if it's not too loud. Of course, the place would need to be able to accommodate our larger group. Any ideas?
Sno la - THE BEST of the fro yo craze
Based on your recommendation, we went to Sno la last week. You are absolutely right about everything! It was the best froyo place we've tried...and we've tried them all. We've been back three times since that--talk about a daily treat. Personally, I like the chocolate with berries while my SO has tried a little of everything, but really likes the sour cherry and mango. They even have aloe vera sauce, which is pretty tasty. Surprisingly, there hasn't been a lot of customers when we've been there. No line for better tasting froyo? Please tell your friends. We want it to thrive so that we can keep coming back to enjoy our favorite froyo.
What is the best Indian restaurant in LA?
We've really enjoyed Chandni for many years now. Good northern vegetarian dishes, which can also be ordered for take out.

Yes, Gramercy Tavern is one of Danny Meyer's restaurants, a part of the Union Square Hospitality Group: http://www.ushgnyc.com. We've never been disappointed by any of them, but there are also a lot of great choices listed here. I hope that you have a great trip to NYC!

I agree with RGR's recommendation for Eleven Madison Park for your anniversary dinner, especially with the new chef. We've also enjoyed many celebration dinners at Gramercy Tavern: www.gramercytavern.com. In fact, all of the Danny Meyer restaurants, e.g., Eleven Madison, Gramercy, Union Square Cafe, etc. offer great food and atmosphere. Cafe Boulud is also very good, with a somewhat more formal vibe. Veritas is good for wine but I thought that the food was less memorable.
Butcher shop recommendation for West LA
Although it's not in West LA, Manhattan Meats is a great little butcher in Manhattan Beach, a block from the beach.
