Upscale Indian -- Need Recs!

Looking for a very high-end Indian food restaurant. Been to Devi, Tamarind, Tabla, etc. Something with a tasting menu would be great. For husband's birthday.

brunch catering

does anyone know a good place for brunch catering. salmon platters, bagels, salads, etc. for about 40 people...something affordable with an online menu would go a long way.

Fun, hip sushi place

Lure has a great sushi chef and a nice atmosphere...And while I'm not a personal fan, Bond Street is still tops with ladies out on the town.

Need New Omakase Place...Not Masa

Chef's table at Morimoto was definitely a good experience, with a lot of variety in cooked dishes though the sushi course was a bit sup par, though I wouldn't put it in the same mind-blowing category as 15 East, which really does belong in the first tier right along with Yasuda.

Need New Omakase Place...Not Masa

Thanks everyone. I will def. try to Sugiyama sometime soon. Been meaning to do that. Before I read the posts, I was actually thinking of doing the Morimoto Chef's 200 menu. It may still be an option, especially since almost everyone here sounds like a fan. I love Yasuda and 15 East, but did tht just few months ago. I also tried to make reservations at Soto but closed on the holiday weekend. Thanks again.

Need New Omakase Place...Not Masa

Husband's bday coming up. Want to try something new and spectacular. Been to all the usual suspects -- 15 east, Yasuda, Sushi Seki, Gari, Sasabune, Ushi...What am I missing??

recommendations for an anniversary dinner - a romantic spot that will not disappoint?

No need to dignify One if by Land. I really like Dining Room at Country. Amazing $85 chef's menu and wonderfully elegant, non-stuffy decor.

What to order at Country (dining room)?

Get the 85 dollar pre-fixe. It's seasonal and changes every 2 weeks, so you can't go wrong.

Upper East Side Eats?

I'm with the last poster. Italian Village is BEST for pizza. Bar at Etas-Unis great for dinner. Donguri for homestyle Japanese. Inase and Gayjumura for Sushi. Wui Lang for Schezuan. Red Hen for pastries. Pio Pio for Chicken. What else? Land Thai is pretty decent. Elio's for Italian.

Tapas for 60?

try alta...they will try to accomodate you and the price is right

Russian Vodka Room?

Yeah, pravda isn't very authentic, more like a theme restaurant. I much prefer Russian Vodka Room to Samovar. Not big enough for a large party, but their vodka infusions are intensely good and the food is in my opinion better than Samovar's.

Engagement Party Location

We were originally going to have our party at Alta in WV before scrapping and deciding to do it at home. The plan was to rent the top floor which can seat or mingle about 50 - 60 people. All the plates are tapas style and they have this deal called the "whole shebang" where they serve every dish (about 35) on the menu for about $300. Figure you could order 6 of those and have plenty of food and money left over for their really strong Sangria and drinks. Would have been a great party because the atmosphere and food is really original.

Bourdain: Love Him? Hate Him?

Big fan. He lives in my building and my mom and I usually ask him questions in the elevator. He's always gracious and polite. Looks like he has a girlfriend, though. My mom has a terrible crush on him.

Class Suggestions at ICE

Any class taught by Jordy Lavenderos. I took Mexican Party course with really elaborate dishes. He used to own Secretes in EV. He also teaches tapas and thai.

NYC's All City Best Buffalo wings (2007)

I'm not a fan of Blondie's. Way to undercooked and greasy and the buffalo sauce was missing that hearty kick. My one go-to place is surprisingly Uptown Restaurant on 88 and 3rd. Crispy, spicy, and heavenly. And the blue cheese is nice and thick, not watered down like at Blondie's. Must try.

Dinner near 92nd Street Y

I didn't like Tenzan. the toro was a huge slab of bright red tuna and the rest of the sashimi tasted like something out of a fast food sushi joint...textureless and flavorless to say the least...am sticking to Donguri and Gauyjumura and Inase on UES.

Bruno Jamais Restaurant Club

I'm actually a huge fan. I live on the UES and as far as food goes, it's pretty good. The chef used to work as a line cook at Nobu and there are some standouts, like Lobster Bolognese and Risotto. Also, Sunday nights they have a very good deal on a half priced menu. It's definitely a different scene. More like an old-fashioned supper club.

Korean Bar-B-Que

Yes, Gyu Kaku may be not chowish, but it's Japanase BBQ, not Korean. They have about 300 locations in Japan, a few in LA, and 10 in Hawaii. And it's always a crowd pleaser. I get the sho gun special for 4 people and they bring you pretty much the whole menu. My favorites are the salad, soup, and mushrooms. and the beef is very good, especially the marinades.

Getting the "only in New York" reaction!

When I think of NY, I think a bit crowded, lively, and fun. While not necessarily the ultimate gastro experiences, La Esquina and Cafe Habana might work. Also, I think a really cool experience that is also very unique and actually has great food is Sakagura.

Unbelievable Food, Fun Atmosphere, No Budget

Le Miu is nice, but the quality of the sushi is a bit overrated and the vibe not that exciting for a birthday. Why not try Mai House, the new trendy vietnamese spot in Tribeca. I think it's the same chef from Bao 111, which was always pretty good.
