What to do with coconut vinegar?

I'd never heard of it. Does it really add anything to an Asian dish which already has many other strong flavors?

what's HOT? what's NOT?

Fear Factor food is in. You know, chocolate covered bugs, candied worms and things like that.

Halloween Party Cocktail?

I've had dry ice punch and lived to tell, so it must be okay. It LOOKS really cool, like what the "mad professor" has bubbling away in his laboratory. Haven't got a clue where you'd get it from or how you'd store it.

French Toast recipe: Does this sound good?

I think with both French Toast and Bread Pudding, the bread should be stale, as it soaks up the liquid better and DOESN'T fall apart like fresh bread would.

Ranch Dressing, what is up with that?

Oh no, pizza crust dipped in Ranch is GREAT!

Ranch Dressing, what is up with that?

Denny's of all places has good Ranch dressing, but I think it comes out of a packet like the HVR one does.

The Princess in Shoreditch

Been, but not eaten there. It's a pub, but with a nice room upstairs accessed via an old spiral staircase and a hole in the ceiling. Downstairs gets very busy with the after work drinking crowd.

Purple Cauliflower

I saw some PC too the other week and wondered if I ought to get one. And I was gonna ask if it tasted any different to a regular cauliflower, but I guess I don't need to now.

What’s your favourite combination for a grilled sandwich?

I never used to like brie, but if you drizzle some maple syrup on it, it doesn't taste so bad! Add some toasted walnuts and you've got a dessert sandwich.

What’s your favourite combination for a grilled sandwich?

I'd use the bread most often used to make Cuaban's with.

French Toast recipe: Does this sound good?

Wouldn't that much orange juice just curdle the cream? I agree, zest might be better.

I'll give you everything EXCEPT the seeded rye bread.

What’s your favourite combination for a grilled sandwich?

I KNEW someone was gona say cheese and fig chutney.

Fine, then I'll add cheese and chili, like real, green thai chilies.

Best cottage cheese? I vote for Friendship (no salt added)

I can't STAND cottage cheese. Every time I try it, even after many years, it still just looks and tastes like wallpaper glue.

Is there good, reasonably priced sushi in London?

No, you're quite right, but when they get creative and make specials, boy is it good!

Good Chinese in London

Where can I find good Chinese in London? I don't mean dubious grey meat and soggy vegetables, but quality, fresh food, where I'm confident it's not cat or dog I'm being served. No buffets.

Ambala

Ambala aren't that great. If you want REAL, fresh, and not cloying Indian sweets, go to Ealing Road in Wembley. Try Prasad Sweets or Saya. Or, there's a great place on Kingsbury High Road called Gayatri which has improved vastly over the last 10 years or so.

In Indian sweet marts, it's all about turnover, not just the finished product, but of the raw ingredients. The places I've mentioned always have fresh stuff and they sell out quickly.

As for what to get, try some Phool Khaja and kaju katri. Prasad does wonderful Jalebi's as well!

Beer Dip Recipe

Does anyone have a really GOOD, tested beer dip recipe? When I was in Texas, we went to a ranch house party, and one of the items was this wonderful cheesy-oniony dip. It LOOKED like something somebody had thrown up, but it tasted great. When I asked what it was, I was told it was "beer dip". Does anyone know how to make it?

Is there good, reasonably priced sushi in London?

I've not been to Kulu Kulu, but I see it all the time. Is it better than conveyer belt places like itsu and Yo Sushi?

Best Service in London?

I've never been to Le Gavroche . . . well, I mean, I've BEEN there, just never eaten there. Good classic French food?

Is there good, reasonably priced sushi in London?

Well, there IS good sushi in London; places like Umu and Hakkasan, for example. And then there's always Nobu, and there are three of those in London.

But, it's not the most reasonably priced, I'll give you that. Though, having said that, Umu has a good set lunch and while it's pricey, sushi is ALWAYS gonna be more expensive than other foods.

I've not been to Sushi-Say on Walm lane, but I keep reading good things about it.

Best Service in London?

Which London restaurant do you think has the best service? And by service, I mean from staff at all levels, from telephone receptionists, greeters, waiters, managemers, busboys, etc. I'm looking for places that aren't just merely competent, but outstanding. And in London, that means people can actually speak and understand English.

I'll start. Any of the Caprice/ Ivy/ J Sheekey/ Daphne's places have always been very professional, in my opinion.

London Challenge: Where can I get early morning grub?

Sam's Brasserie is located in a little back alley off Chiswick High Road, just west of the Turnham Green area.

Time Out London, Best Restaurant

What about Gordon Ramsey's flagship in Chelsea? Marina O'Loughlin just gave it a quite scathing review, but I was there the day that went to print and the place was still packed!
