Flatiron--Seeking candlelit, quiet, obscure restaurant

I need to find a special little place to reconnect with an old friend for good cocktails and apps/dinner in the Flatiron or around the way--Chelsea might work. Cuisine really doesn't matter--ambience does. Thank you so much!

Friends in town with small kids--Recs on Court or Smith?

We are meeting up with out of town friends this week and need to find a good restaurant preferably on Smith or Court which could take a fairly well behaved 3 year old. I was thinking of getting an early reservation at Buttermilk Channel. What does the board think? Would love other recs. thank you !

Celebratory dinner close to Dekalb Market

Seeking recommendations for a fun, delicious place for dinner within walking distance of Dekalb Market. This is for a birthday dinner and most any cost range and cuisine is fine.

Special Downtown Birthday Lunch for only Moi

I'd like to take myself out to lunch for my birthday--just me--(dinner with friends later). I haven't eaten solo downtown in forever and I want to make it special.. Where would you go? Cuisine doesn't matter. I thought about eating lunch at the bar at Gotham , but I've done that before--loved it--but I'd like other ideas.

Iconic Lunch Spots UWS--Want to surprise mom?

Any suggestions for inconic "ladies" lunch spots on the west side between 81st and 40th?
I'd like to surprise my mom after our visit to the Hayden P. Something decadent and over the top is fine--
Please feel free to suggest east side, too, as long as the suggestion is between those streets. The Carlysle is on the list but I'd love other suggestions.

Thank you!

Breakfast at Bubby's in DUMBO- Never again.

We have friends visiting the city this weekend and offered to treat them to breakfast--thought Bubby's in DUMBO would be a good choice for the views and because we know from past experiene it has a large breakfast menu. First off, soon after we walked up to the hostess stand around 10am hard rock started blaring from the speakers. I mean blaring! When we asked if the music could be turned down a bit, the hostess smirked and said "no." We should have left then. For the record, we were not the first folks in the place--not even close. I'm guessing there were about 25 diners. So here we go. We asked for a bread basket to start. We were told that they were out of bread baskets. We were offered 2 biscuits--they arrived at our tabled obviously micorwaved. They were scorching and then turned to stone within seconds. My husband ordered a hash dish with eggs he asked for home fries-- told they were out of home fries. We ordered silver dollar pancakes for our son. They arrived cold. The whole thing wasn't just bad, it was one of the worst restaurant breakfasts I've had in years. $150 flushed down the toilet. Very very disappointing.

Wowing visiting friends near Battery Park/ Wall St.

We have friends coming into the city this weekend--it's supposed to be beautiful.
I haven't been to the Battery Park area in while. I'm thinking it would be fun to find some bars and restaurants with a view of the water in that neighborhood. Food can be good--doesn't have to be exceptional, but ambience should be somewhat lively. Thank you!

Child friendly place for Thanksgiving Dinner?

Would love suggestions for a fun, child friendly restaurant that is serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Any neighborhood is fine, but we will be driving in from Brooklyn.

Thank you!

Anything new or interesting on Smith, Court, Henry, or Columbia Street?

My husband's birthday is coming up next week and we'd really like to get back to our old hood for dinner. --Would love to hear suggestions on anything new and exciting. Cuisine type doesn't really matter nor does price point... Just new and exceptional. We've tried Seersucker and LOVED it. I'm from TN originally and it's some of the best, freshest Southern food. That one is a "maybe", but other suggestions?

Thanks so much!

A menu question--Burke's Primehouse

I've seen underwhelming reviews of Primehaus on Chicago area Chowhound and I'm disappointed. Alas, at the request of my clients they still want to go here for dinner. For those of you who have had a pleasant or even decent experience, did anything (apps, sides) stand out?

Also, I would love other reccomendations for downtown restaurants that have great, non prentenious food.

I will be in Chicago for 3 days in mid June.
Thank you!

Todd English Restaurants...

I've noticed that Todd English has taken somewhat of a beating in the press recently regarding his NYC restuarants. I've only been to Olives and that was a very long time ago. I felt that it was good but overrated. I'd love to hear impressions from those who have visited his restaurants in the last 6 months.

Sushi in South Slope

I work from home some days and a couple of time a month I treat myself to sushi delivery for lunch.
Ten has been my go to sushi place, but it's gone from "ok" to "really bad." I'd appreciate other suggestions for lunch delivery--what is Kiku like for lunch?

Giuseppina's on 6th Ave in South Slope-the non review

Just want to report that my neigbors and I have been waiting with bated breath for this Lucali offshoot to open for well over a year. Finally it "technically" opened it's doors over a week ago, but the evenings I wanted to go, numerous problems arose with these guys... Excuses ranged from the oven being broken, to deciding not to be open on a Tuesday, to "we usually open at 5:30 but today we just don't have our act together so we can't open until 6pm." Has anyone actually eaten there? I would love to know. Someday (hopefully this weekend) I'd like to try a pie.

Saul and Young Children?

We're having family in from DC and will be celebrating a special occasion. We've never been to Saul and would love to take the family there. If we made a very early reservation, would it be a all feasible to bring a toddler? If it's out of the question, we'd love to hear recommendations for a lovely dinner that would be suitable to bring a toddler.

Pleasing everyone-LES or East Village

My husband and I will be entertaining virtual strangers (long dumb story) on Thursday night. We have no idea about their cuisine dislikes, so we're thinking standard domestic fare, somewhat trendy, not too pricey. Our preferences are LES or East Village (midpoint between the two of us).

Thank you!

Scared to ask. Compatibility-Children and Convivium O?

I'll end this now and reply to my own post. I just read a recent posting that opined -Convivium O is NOT for a 2 year old.

Scared to ask. Compatibility-Children and Convivium O?

I think I can guess the answer, but I'd love to be wrong. My husband and I received a very generous gift cert to Convivium O in Park Slope. Neither of us have been here. We just haven't been able to find a babysitter...or maybe we haven't tried hard enough. If we arrived very early for dinner with our 2 year old, how bad would it be? I don't want to be chased out of town--not yet at least.

Turkey Breast in a Crock Pot? Am I crazy or desparate?

Turkey Breast in a Crock Pot? Am I crazy or desparate?

I'm reponsible for cooking 2 skin on/ deboned 3lb Turkey breasts for a gathering of Brooklyn friends tomorrow. I'm going to roast one in the oven tomorrow, but I'm considering putting the other one in a crock post and very slowly cooking it at low temp for a few hours over night. Has anyone does this before and if so, is it is a terrible idea? Would love suggestions or to talk me out of it.

Thank so much,
KC

First time in Minneapolis-Recs close to the Hyatt? Must impress a client...

I need help! I'm in Minneapolis (first time!) for a few days next week and I've just committed to taking an important client out to dinner. We're both NYers and though the restaurant doesn't have to be near our hotel (the Hyatt Downtown), it shouldn't be too far. In terms of cuisine, I'd love to experiment...My client is a definite foodie!
Thanks so much!
