Veggie Patch
Look who owns the company:
http://www.veggiepatch.com/about/founder.php
Meet the Founder
Veggie Patch was founded by Eli Soglowek, 37, a native of Israel who fulfilled his life-long dream of attending college in the U.S. While a student at New York University in Manhattan, he became intrigued by the differences in the U.S. and Mediterranean diets, especially by America's lack of readily available, easy-to-prepare, fresh vegetarian fare. Eli says: “In Israel, meatless meals are a part of the mainstream and consumers have more opportunities to buy vegetarian products and eat a more varied diet. In fact, nearly 60% of Israeli households have a soy-based meat alternative in their refrigerator or freezer at any given time. Israelis eat vegetarian meals without being full-time vegetarians."
So, as an Economics major with a minor in Accounting, Eli picked an appropriate subject for a term project in a marketing class. His assignment was to reposition an American consumer goods product and develop a marketing and business plan for it. Eli chose to reposition an existing frozen meatless soy product into a refrigerated product and received an A in the class. After graduation, he put his ideas into action.
Eli is not a newcomer to food manufacturing. He comes from a family who has been in the food manufacturing business for three generations. Soglowek-Nahariya Ltd. is a leading supplier of chicken and turkey products, as well as vegetarian alternatives, in Israel. Until Eli was ten years old his family lived in an apartment over the Soglowek factory. It was only when the family’s apartment was needed for offices that they moved to a house. In 1998 Soglowek-Nahariya Ltd. celebrated 60 years of production and is now one of the largest food processors in Israel, employing over 1,200 people. Proud of his family’s legacy, Eli is committed to continuing the longstanding tradition of offering innovative, quality foods. FoodTech International is Eli’s sole responsibility, but his teeth are cut into the original family business.
kosher draft cider
Except that I emailed the Ok about it and their response was, sadly:
Mr. XXXXX,
After further research, it has been confirmed that Granny Smith is indeed a flavor. It has been taken off the menu in Wolf and Lamb, and is no longer allowed in our facilities.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
Kind Regards,

Super hot white horseradish
Just bought and tried trader Joe's Horseradish, and the bottle looks exactly the same. Trader Joe's beat Silver Sprong in heat and taste. And no artificial flavors!!
Kosher for passover strawberry mousse recipe?
I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it!! So easy, so simple, and amazingly creamy without any fat!! My mom gave me the recipe and it's a keeper for sure. SoCal mother, u said u owe me a recipe- deal!!
Chag Sameach!
Lunch erev Pesach
Exactly- it balances starch with protein, and I am never not starving by Shulchan Orech. Don't forget, lunch is 1-2-3pm. Dinner, true dinner, especially this year, as it's late, is at it's earliest 10:30pm! Plus, the potatoes, carrots, and corned beef are relatively simple to prepare- each in it;s own pot and done. We've even cheated with canned veggies!
Lunch erev Pesach
Our family tradition is to have corned beef, potatoes, and carrots. Dutch background here.
Kosher for passover strawberry mousse recipe?
Depending on the eggs used, I'd say 4-6 servings.....sometimes less when I'm alone and can't stop. Also, people tend to eat less of it cause it looks so rich and fattening.
Kosher for passover strawberry mousse recipe?
Love this recipe- no fat, no richwhip, pure flavor-
1-2 egg whites, depending on desired consistency (fluffier or strawberrier?)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries- I prefer frozen for flavor consistency
Place egg white(s) in a large bowl. With hand mixer, beat until light and foamy. Gradually beat in sugar and strawberries on medium speed. Increase speed to high and beat for approx 5-7 minutes. Mixture will fill the bowl.
Transfer to a pyrex bowl and freeze. Done.
New Sushi place in Queens
Flo- thanks so much for posting! Went there tonight- sushi was fantastic, and prices were great!! Yummy sauces too!
KP Coca cola
Sorry- i meant did u see Dr. Brown's ginger ale in 1 liter, cause ive never seen it. Love their ginger ale- so dry.
KP Coca cola
You've seen Dr. Brown's Kosher for Passover GINGER ALE in the 1-liter bottle?
KP Coca cola
I have never seen Dr Brown's Ginger Ale in 2 liter bottles, let alone certified for Passover. I wish I was wrong, though ;)
Aldi's- Kosher Items? Suggestions?
I was actually dreading going because of the lackluster reviews, but came away pretty happy. Pareve soft baked cookies, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, and peanut butter that are great and without preservatives 1.99 for a pound, 3 bean salad for 99 cents, two pounds of grapes for $1.49 (and they're good!), fake ritz pareve crackers for 1.39, Dijon Mustard for 1.19, Hot Cocoa mix for 89 cents 10 envelopes....I was expecting foreign hechshers on the products but found mostly OU's and a couple of no name "k's". Nothing at all like the crazy certifications you see at trader joe's. If you're nearthe store and don't mind off brand names, I think it;s a good stop to make. Unlike Trader Joe's however, things have preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, etc. And don't even think of looking for soy milk- very little in the yuppie food category. . They did have kosher hummus, though with preservatives, yuck. Aldi in all, a decent store.
Aldi's- Kosher Items? Suggestions?
An Aldi's is opening near me in NYC- is this anything to get excited about? Do they have any interesting kosher items?
Tootsie Pops now OU-D too!
OU says OU-D is required on these pops. just called them.
Junior Mints and Sugar Babies now OU-D Kosher
just spoke to the OU- he was definitely sure the tootsie pops need an OU-D, he was not 100% sure of the other two, saying he believed changes were made, and should require an OU-D.
Junior Mints and Sugar Babies now OU-D Kosher
it actually almost always says that, but the OU might say otherwise verbally.
Tootsie Pops now OU-D too!
Packaging not yet updated....waiting to hear if requires OU on package.
Junior Mints and Sugar Babies now OU-D Kosher
http://www.oukosher.org/index.php/product_search and type in junior mints in product search box. I agree their search sucks. You have to wait as you're typing for the product to show up. But did you doubt me though? ;)
Junior Mints and Sugar Babies now OU-D Kosher
I emailed the OU- waiting for response. Though Junior Mints in the past did have gelatin, so it might actually hafta have the OU.
Junior Mints and Sugar Babies now OU-D Kosher
Still waiting for packaging to reflect, but the OU's website shows the products as certified and this was confirmed by the Tootsie company!!
kosher skittles?
I hate how they write we "will be able to taste the rainbow", then quantify it with "if the rumors are true". Though from past experience, once koshertoday mentions something, it'll happen. Can Wrigley's gum be far behind??
Supersol in Queens Closing- to be replaced by Pomegranate
Avitrek- I was comparing the Queens stores, not Brooklyn! You don't think 20-30 cents difference on one ~$1 item is alot?? A jar of Hellmann's Mayonnaise in Supersol was $5.99- at most, it's $4.99 elsewhere, often less. Those dollars quickly add up.
Supersol in Queens Closing- to be replaced by Pomegranate
I''m always jealous of Brooklyn shoppers seeing the KRM and Goldberg's ads every week- their prices on everything is simply great. One stop shopping with warehouse type prices . In Supersol in Queens, EVERY SINGLE ITEM (besides fresh meat, surprisingly) was at least 10% more expensive than any other store, and often a lot more. It was simply amazing how much they gouged the customer.
Sour Sticks in Arons and Brachs- $1.69; Supersol $1.89
Gefen Cup of Noodles- 89 cents elsewhere, Supersol $1.19
If this new Pomegranate clone keeps this old pricing scheme up ,they won't last. I was shocked how many Kosher for Passover items I found while shopping at their going out of business sale yesterday.
Supersol in Queens Closing- to be replaced by Pomegranate
Pomegranate is expensive compared to KRM Kollel, Moisha's, and Goldberg's- their sale prices are never as good, particularly on paper goods.
Supersol in Queens Closing- to be replaced by Pomegranate
The ridiculously overpriced and boring Supersol is going out of business and will be replaced by Pomegranate. Also expensive, but at least pretty? Will they compete with Aron's and Brach's in price? If they don't, they may not last either. Queens shoppers are sick of overpriced items- why is everything in Brooklyn always cheaper?
Kosher food cart in Brooklyn Heights
Still there- great falafel- saw it earlier this week. (or was it last week?) Right in front of the municipal building at the corner of Court and Joralemon.
Kosher on the Go Las Vegas
I visited vegas 2 weeks ago and tried calling Kosher on the Go to make sure they were open, and never got anyone on the phone. But I can tell you that since I stayed at hotel that had full kitchen access, I bought all my food from Smith's Supermarket which has a Kosher Experience inside it. Fresh hot rotisserie chickens, Fried chicken, BBQ wings, Hot wings, Sweet and sour wings, stuffed cabbage, knishes, Deli Sandwiches, a lot of mediteranean themed and regular salads, and a nice pareve bakery selections (awesome donuts). Many (most) items were packaged in small portions as to easily accommodate one person, and if u only have a microwave, the items were in microwaveable containers already wrapped.. The prepared meat dishes didn't go much past what I listed (don't expect grilled chicken or meat knishes, etc.), but for 4 days, it was more than enough selection. They're located at 2211 N Rampart Blvd- about 15 minutes from the strip.
