Christmas at Four Seasons in Troon...need help..

Pizzeria Bianco rec for someone staying at Troon? Are there any recs you could make in Flagstaff?

I agree that it's a great place - a great pizza place that is a good 45 minute drive from Troon and, IMO, not somewhere I'd consider for an X-mas type of dinner.

Where to get great Coffee/Bfast in Vegas

If you're staying at the Venetian then, without a doubt, you should stop by Bouchon for breakfast. The boudin blanc with eggs and croissant, the corned-beef hash, the pain au chocolate ...

It really is worth the hike/wait/possible service issues. Don't pass this one up.

Three Best Restaurants To Try in Scottsdale? How about brunch, too?

Well, to further disect it - I last ate at T. Cook's about two years ago and I would go so far as to say that my meal there was disappointing. I had heard and read so many wonderful things about it and it didn't live up to any of them. The food was mediocre and the service was nothing special. Yes, it's a pretty cool setting at the Royal Palms but that was it for me.

I could eat at Binkley's once a week for the next year and still not get enough of the stellar food.

Again, different strokes.

Three Best Restaurants To Try in Scottsdale? How about brunch, too?

Wow.

T. Cook's over Binkley's.

For me, the experience is the food and the restaurant not the walk there. I think Binkley's is the best dining experience ( whole experience - food et all ) in the valley. The prices are reasonable for the food and amount of it plus it's not stuffy. Hands-down my favorite restaurant in the Phoenix area.

I thought my experience at T. Cook's was just average compared to my expectations.

Different strokes ...

Anything great close to JWMarriott in Vegas?

Well there is the Caramel Room at the JW but I've never been there or heard anything about it. The menu looks tasty enough but it's an old school-style gourmet room. Beef Wellington, Prime Rib, etc.

Just up the street on the same side of the road as the JW is a place called Nora's Wine Bar and Osteria. The food is decent but not great and they have a large selection of nice wines by the glass. Across the street in Boca Park there are several options but nothing spectacular: Gordon Biersch, Kona Grill, East Coast Pizza, etc.

A 10 minute cab ride to the northeast will land you at Grape Street Cafe, one of my all-time favorites. Really good food, lots of wines by the glass, and a phenomenal atmosphere.

I also used to eat here at least three times a month. Great little place. Highly recommended.

Finally, if you're looking for some good "pub-fare" make sure you stop by J.C. Wooloughan's Irish Pub in the JW. Really good fish 'n' chips and of course the Guiness and Harp's flow like water off the tap. They have live music there on Wednesday and Thursday nights if you will still be in town. Great place to hang out.

My Favorite Chinese in Las Vegas

KJ's Kitchen is really good. I used to eat there at least once every couple weeks. Highly recommended.

Best Vegas Burger at Bradley Ogden? BBQ at CJ's?

I would put the best burger in town at the Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay. You can load it with your choice of about a thousand different toppings, great selection of burger meat, buns, fried sides, etc. Great spot - and they have some good beers as well.

Just an FYI: When it comes to listening to what John Curtas has to say - take it with a grain of salt. Curtas would say that McDonald's had the best burger in town if they recognized him when he walked through the door. His reviews are directly related to how much the restaurant kisses his a** when he dines there.

Prix Fixe at the Wynn Las Vegas restaurants?

I can't really think of one at either restaurant off the top of my head. Tableau is just really good food really well done. Bartalotta has a fantastic selection of fish and their pastas are extremely good as well.

Barbeque in Scottsdale?

Man, I know I'm going to be in the minority on this one and it may be blasphemous but ...

Shane's Rib Shack has some really good BBQ, IMO. It *is* one outpost of several ( I guess that's a nice way to say "chain" ) but I stand by it as really tasty.

Happy Valley Rd. @ I-17.

Koto,Sushi Hana, Todai, or?

I **LOVE** me some Sushi Hana!

Their fish is so fresh and clean tasting. Plus they have a HUGE selection of different types - some that are really unique ( at least to me ). Make sure to have the red snapper and the halibut if nothing else - both are so extremely tasty and well done.

LAS VEGAS EATS? [moved from Manhattan board]

Vegas is chock full o' "sister restaurants" but I wouldn't call all of them second-rate versions. Unless you've compared ALL of the originals to their Las Vegas counterparts, you can't make that statement.

But I digress - MUST EAT's in Vegas for me are the following:

Guy Savoy ( Original in France - never been but this meal was to die for )
Craftsteak ( Original in NY - never been but this is my favorite all-around meal in Vegas )
Bouchon ( Original in CA - never been but this outpost serves up immaculate food )

... and of course two Las Vegas exclusives:

Lotus of Siam and Rosemary's. Both are one-of-a-kind experiences that will leave you craving more.

Alert: Beer Dinner at Rosemary's on 7/24

I wish I was going to be in town for this. Sounds great.

Anyone been to Del Frisco's Steakhouse in Las Vegas?

$40 or $50 per person w/o drinks? What, a steak and one side? I would think it's more like $75 - $85.

Just from what I've seen.

Prix Fixe at the Wynn Las Vegas restaurants?

Tableau would be my choice but as Larry said, I would have to know what my choices were before I entered into this deal.

Four Peaks Brewery for the All Star Game

Headed to Tempe tonight to watch the travesty that was the baseball All Star Game at the popular Four Peaks Brewery ( 8th St. in Tempe between Rural and the 101 ).

http://www.fourpeaks.com/default.asp

First time for me and it was pretty cool. Reminded me of my old college days. *sniff*

Sat at the bar inside and was promptly attended to with a Sunbru Kolsch. Very nice. Good for summer drinking. Ordered the shrimp bruschetta. Wow. This was an appetizer and was certainly enough for a meal. House-made focaccia bread topped with ripe plum tomatoes, basil, parmesan, and huge chunks of garlic - and quite a bit of it. Served along with 5 citrus marinated, grilled shrimp.

Very tasty I have to say and a huge portion. I ened up with that, the Sunbru, and a couple of hefeweizen. $2.75 beers and moderately priced apps. $19.00 total bill. I will definitely head back for the atmosphere and to further investigate the food

Cave Creek area - recs for Thai and Chinese cuisine.

Actually, I found a little place on Anthem Pkwy called Dara Thai Cafe. It wasn't the best I'd ever had but it certainly did the trick and the menu was extensive for a smaller type place. I had the Panang and it wasn't bad at all actually pretty tasty. My only complaint would be that I asked for a 4 out of 5 on the heat scale and it still wasn't as spicy as I'd hoped for but I'll surely go back.

Cave Creek area - recs for Thai and Chinese cuisine.

I'm off today and have a HUGE craving for Thai food. I just moved here and miss my LOS in Vegas. *sniff*

I'm looking for the best Thai food that is close to Carefree Hghwy and I-17. I've been reading reviews of Thai Lhana, Swadee, and Thai Basil but all are quite a hike away in the southern part of the valley. I'm looking for something in the 10-15 minute driving range. Does a place exist? It doesn't have to be great but it does have to be good.

I'm also looking for good Chinese in the same area. This doesn't have to be anything special but I'm not talking about the oriental chicken salad at Applebee's.

Any suggestions? ( Other than sucking it up and getting in the car for the long haul. )

Best Vegas restaurant dessert menu?

Great desserts to be found at SeaBlue, Simon's Kitchen, and Postrio.

One bit of advice - wherever you decide to go, call ahead first. A lot of restaurants will not seat a party in their dining room for dessert only if that's what you're looking for. It probably won't be an issue at the bar or a lounge if available.

Any food/convenience/liquor stores very near the Bellagio?

If you are looking for liquor there is a place on Spring Mountain and Valley View about a mile or so from the Bellagio. XO liquor I think it's called. It will definitely be your closest bet and usually open reasonably late. Lee's Discount Liquor, however, will have a much larger selection.

If you are looking for your usual suspects then check out XO Liquor. If you are looking for something off the beaten path or a really nice bottle of wine, then check out Lee's.

Anything new and exciting in vegas

I would try David Burke and B&B personally. I lived there for 10 years and I agree on the "been there done that" mentality but these two places have been getting good to great reviews.

Capriotti's--good cheesesteak?

It's good but not great. Definitely not the best cheesesteak I've ever had. There are way better sandwiches on their menu.

For a good cheesesteak in Vegas try Pop's Pride of Philly.

501 S Decatur Blvd
Las Vegas, NV
89107
Phone: (702) 878-6444

If you happen into Capriotti's try the Capastrami, the Cole Turkey, Bobbie, or the Slaw Be Joe before the cheesesteak. All four are FANTASTIC!

Kid-friendly, NICE restaurants in Las Vegas

Hmmm ... are you sure about FIX? The Bellagio is notoriously non-kid friendly. I know for sure that 2 yr olds will not be accomodated in Picasso, Prime, Le Cirque, Shintaro, Jasmine, and Michael Mina - and even Olives only allows children between the early dining hours of 5-6.. I would be hesitant to try FIX not only because of the children policies of the Bellagio but also because it's just so loud in there that it seems like it might entice children to misbehave due to the noise level. Then again, the noise level might be a good thing if children tend to behave badly.

I would try Bouchon at the Venetian, Fiamma at MGM, as well as Joe's Stone Crab and Mesa Grill both at Caesar's ( even though I'm not a huge fan of Bobby Flay - I think the child issue would probably be okay there ).

Bellagio - Sensi: Any Opinions?

Make sure to try the carpaccio. It's definitely unique and very tasty!

Vegas Strip Dining - dog friendly?

Very doubtful. It's a MAJOR health code violation unless they are special needs dogs, and even then you would, more than likely, have to show some sort of identification.

Hope you have some luck.

Wine Cellar & Tasing Room - Rio LV

No, they do not serve substantial food there.

Any can't miss items at Bouchon LV ?

The chicken is probably the best you'll ever have anywhere. The salmon is fantastic when it's served with the melted leeks and beurre blanc sauce ( make sure to ask for it done unilatteraly rare - it's unbelievable ). I also like the trout almondine. The highlight of the entrees is usually the nightly "special" that the chef comes up with. Mark Hopper is a genius when it comes to this - he spent several years working with Thomas Keller at the French Laundry. I would definitely ask about the specials and 9 times out of 10 I would probably order one of them. The name of the bibb lettuce salad is Laitue but it's described as such on the menu so you won't miss it. Personally, I think the bibb lettuce is a great salad - just the right amount of acidity, herbs, etc. - but the star salad on the menu is the frisee with the bacon lardons, bacon dressing, and poached egg on top served with brioche. You WILL NOT beat that salad for fresh, inviting flavors anywhere. The foie torchon is spectacular but it's quite a large portion and so rich that it's plenty for 4 people to share, be warned. Somone mentioned the steak frites and although it's good the star of that dish is the frites. Take some advice and order a side of frites if you really want to try them and skip the steak. The beets and haricot verts are great sides as well.

You really can't go wrong at Bouchon - everything is fantastic and there really isn't a bad dish on the menu. Enjoy.

First Las Vegas Trip Coming Up - 20 somethings

Jean-Philippe Patisserie in Bellagio. They do have some tasty pasteries.

Hmmm ... will *this* post be deleted as well?

dover sole in vegas

I know that Prime at the Bellagio serves Dover Sole. It is a steakhouse but I've heard that the Sole is pretty good.

Review: Settebello Las Vegas

So from what I heard this place was a "can't miss". I went in this evening around 5:30.

I was one of 3 tables there. The waitress told me to sit wherever I wanted so I chose a seat near a window and she brought the menu over to me. I pretty much knew what I wanted but I looked it over anyway. I saw the "misto" and decided that I would try that before the main reason that I stopped in. I ordered that and a margherita to cover all the basis - along with a Moretti Pilsner. The antipasti arrived as a HUGE plate. Well enough for 3-4 to share as an appetizer. The plate arrived with 4 types of meat ( mortadella, prosciutto crudo, prosciutto cotto, and finnochiona ) along with artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, olives, roasted mushrooms, parmigiano, and enough flatbread to feed Green Valley. It was all pretty good - the mortadella and prosciutto crudo were the stars along with the excellently prepared flatbread.

The pizze came afterward and did not disappoint. HOWEVER ... I had heard this place talked up so much from friends and these boards that I was expecting the second coming. I have to say that although it was really good - it wasn't great. I was expecting the crust to be even thinner and crispier than it was. Don't get me wrong - the crushed tomatoes they use were fantastic as well as the mozz, but I was expecting more along the lines of flatbread. Despite this thought I finished the pie and really enjoyed it. I headed over to Valley Cheese & Wine afterwards as a topper to the experience. They have a lot of great products in there and I probably would have spent a fortune if I weren't moving out of state in the next couple weeks ( the products would have to be tossed before I could use them up ).

At any rate, I had a good time although it didn't quite live up to ALL the expectations I had but I would definitely go back when I'm in the area. I don't know if I would make the trip just for that ( although that tomato concasse was REALLY tasty ), but I'm sure I will patronize it again.
