Bowl - Reno
I have been there, twice. The first time for their soft opening/holland project fundraiser. The second time for lunch. I never ate at Sezmu, though was aware that it was a top local restaurant. Anyway, i loved Bowl. The first time, I had the duck confit. It was delicious, served over polenta and greens. The duck was very similar to 4th Street Bistro's duck confit (my favorite dish), and I was told that the Bowl chef had cooked at 4th street in the past. The second time, I had cioppino, which was also very good. This place is wonderful! A great addition to downtown. And relatively inexpensive...Both of my dishes were around 12 dollars (I don't remember exactly).

Reno: Alert: Great cheap eating at Commrow downtown

Really, I think the executive chef really is creative and knows what he is doing. Not open for lunch except on weekends, at this point.
Reno: Alert: Great cheap eating at Commrow downtown
I went to Commrow (the new hotel/highest climbing wall in the world), between 2nd and 3rd and Virginia. They have a few little eateries, tonight I tried one with a greek vibe. I ordered grilled swordfish on a tabouli salad. It was absolutely fantastic, and only $6.00. Really, every bite was delicious. Other restaurants are an Italian hoagie place, Mexican place, and a raw bar. Really, hurry, go and check out these places. Eager to hear other chowhound commentary!

Has anyone tried this new Thai place on the corner of Second and Sierra? The menu looks great, the interior is beautiful, but I have not yet tried it. What is the story?
NYT Recipe: Slow-Baked Beans With Kale
I made it with lima beans. It was great. I added more carrots, (four not one) and shallots in addition to one onion. Good with a little feta on top (but not necessary).

florence: where to eat with severe fish/shellfish allergy?
Travel to Florence in October, one member of our party has a severe fish/shellfish allergy. Where are good places to eat where no fish are prepared on the premises? He will have a severe reaction if even around the cooking of fish....Thanks!

restaurants in theaters
I am thinking about the concept of a pre/post theatre meal or appetizer/dessert/ wine bar kind of thing. Actually located in a theater lounge. Perhaps then also with the capability of a dinner/theater package. In my community, nothing like this exists. I am curious about where the models are for this concept?
Make me a muffin -- a Chowhound Challenge
I had e-mailed them without success, a call would make sense!
Make me a muffin -- a Chowhound Challenge
I have been searching for a recipe that I believe came from the la brea bakery, and the recipe was in the letters section of Gourmet about 15 years ago, maybe longer. It was for bran, date, and honey muffins. It was super sticky and good. I have been totally unsuccessful in my web searches, this recipe is not in their cookbooks (la brea), and I would love to find it. any suggestions?
Fresh or frozen fava beans in Reno-Sparks?

sides for lemon garlic roast fish?
Well, dinner was great thanks to all of your ideas. How fun, I have only thought through menus alone, this is great to tap into a community of similarly obsessed people! By the way, I live in Reno, the chef is the owner of Daughters Cafe, we had a nice, easy going dinner and then to a play, then back for dessert. While they say hunger is the best sauce, really, eating with loved friends is such a pleasure!
sides for lemon garlic roast fish?
Wonderful ideas! I have nixed the braise, going with a roasted green, maybe smashed red potatoes or rice, not sure right now.
Now I am looking for a good lemon cake recipe, serving strawberries and blackberries along side...
sides for lemon garlic roast fish?
I am making splendid table's recipe for lemon garlic roast salmon...I have made it before and it is really good. I am interested in ideas for sides...I am thinking of making braised red cabbage, sweet potatoes and carrots...and some kind of rice pilaf, and I think I will make a pumpkin poundcake for dessert. Comments? I am cooking for a wonderful chef so have more anxiety than usual in preparing a dinner.
donuts in Reno
Last week I was looking for tortillas, in the little shopping center where Blind Onion is, and found instead a new donut place "Perfect Donut" , and was compelled to go inside. I am not a donut person really, but was really impressed by the beauty of these donuts. Donut heaven! And the apple fritter was impossible to not keep nibbling on. So I thought I would announce this news to fellow chowhounds, in search of out of the way finds.
