Top Chef Texas - Ep. #1 - 11/02/11 (Spoilers)
I was thinking the same thing when I saw him among the video interviews. I thought he must be on as a guest judge then realized he's a contestant. Definitely a big deal here in LA. Will be interesting to see how he does!
Btween Pasadena and the El Cap theatre
Hi KitchenQueen! One thing to keep in mind is that Hollywood and West Hollywood are a total circus [literally : )] on Halloween night, so expect quite a bit of traffic/delays.
I'd suggest some place that is walkable/wheelchair manageable near the El Capitan. Cleo is a great suggestion- also across the from Cleo is Lexington Social House and Wood and Vine. I've eaten at both and prefer Wood and Vine.

Thinking about getting a cast iron dutch oven and have some questions
I'd recommend getting an enameled cast iron dutch oven to avoid the cast iron reacting to any acids you'll put in it.
Leftover Grilled Corn Ideas?
I just used up some grilled corn- sauteed onions & jalapenos till soft, then added pancetta that I crisped up in another pan and added the corn to heat thru. Really yummy.
Will def be trying the corn fritter suggestion. Sounds great.
Please help a Torontonian with his itinerary

Big English Muffins - Where?
Thanks! I might try this route, but am hoping to find a store that stocks them. Only have a couple of days to make it happen.
Big English Muffins - Where?
Hi Hounds,
I've been looking large size English muffins. They're much larger than the standard Thomas' size- about as large around as a hamburger bun. I've seen them before at a BBQ a couple of years ago. They're awesome for burgers & I really want to have them for the old Memorial Day BBQ this weekend.
I'm in Hollywood, but would be willing to drive within reason. Anyone know where I can find 'em?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice at Musha
Hounds,
Musha in Santa Monica [and Torrance- haven't been to that location yet] serves up the most delicious Spicy Tuna Dip the likes of which I crave constantly and haven't yet found closer to home here in Hollywood.
I am in serious need of locating a similar version east of La Cienega: WeHo, Hollywood, Little Tokyo, Los Feliz, Downtown & Glendale are viable destination options.
Please help a girl in need. A trip to SM on a week night for a fix isn't an option most nights. Need that crunch.

Long Stem Strawberries?
Check Trader Joes. Saw them at the Hollywood/Vine location last night.
Atch Kotch closed :(
Good news! Atch Kotch was only closed for about a week. It's now up and running again!
French Bistro Lunch near Tar Pits on a Saturday?
I have been there in a while, but Le Petit Bistro may be an option. They're on La Cienega & Melrose. Here's a link to their site, which has their lunch menu.

Ultra-Casual, No-Reservations on Thanksgiving?
How about the Oaks Gourmet? Just north of Downtown in Beachwood Canyon? No reservations needed & they're serving until midnight.

Rustic "provencial" patio spot in LA?
Pane Vino in West Hollywood has a lovely patio.
How do you manage your recipe copies?
Similar to the 3 ring binder idea, but slightly different- I use those old school photo albums- the ones that have the thin plastic sheet that pulls off of a cardboard page backing. The pages pop out like a 3 ring binder. It's handy because the cardboard make the page very sturdy + protects the recipe nicely + is easy to wipe off when I'm done. And no hole punch required!
Hard Boiled Eggs
Here's what you do-
Put your eggs (cold, straight from the fridge) in a pot and fill with cold water from the tap.
Bring to a boil uncovered, then turn the flame off. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes. Peel + enjoy.
This will give you lovely bright yellow yolks, every time.
Your favourite thing to do with jam/preserves?
I love raspberry preserves melted into maple syrup with a dab of butter. On pancakes. Heaven.
Indigenous treats?
This was suggested on an earlier post on the subject- the sea salt caramels from Little Flower candies. I took a bunch home at Christmas and let's just say they were a huge, huge hit with the family.
You can get them at Surfas along with a million other great treats.
Food as Medicine
I'm not sure how good it is, but if think she'd like raw food- there's Juliano's Raw on Broadway near 6th.
There's also The Newsroom Cafe on Wilshire near 5th. I think the name changed recently. The original Newroom owner kept this location and has (I think) renamed it. Haven't been there in a few months.
Great Bread Pudding Recipes??
Like you, I was never a big bread pudding person but I
I made Giada DeLaurentis' panettone bread pudding for Christmas last year and my mom said it was better than Grandma's! Which apparently was quite good. Have since made it for other gatherings to only rave reviews.
The good news for you is that for the most part any recipe you chose will be pretty easy and besides you may even find that you actually like the stuff!
