Cheap, Yummy Snacks in the Slope and nearby

They are very different, actually. The Lopez ones are smaller & drier - which I prefer. This may be the banana leaf / corn husk difference but I'm not sure because it's been awhile since I had one of the flower shop tamales. The ones at lopez are $1.50 each I think & are made chicken, beef, or queso. Each with a different salsa. Mmm.

You speak of Lopez Bakery. Great place. Super nice people and cheap baked goods & snacks.

Bagel place on 5th/17th-closed?

Agreed. She is very nice. They are definitely better than Has Beans but Red Horse still gets my vote.

There's was a new guy at Sutra once who busted out some latte art which totally caught me off guard. But I haven't seen him since, and actually *think* I saw him working at Gorilla a month ago.

Yeah, there's a notice from the health board on the bagel factory front door. It's kind of obscured by the gate but it's there. :(

moving to south park slope... recommendations?

Taqueria D.F. on 5th & 22nd or so has a lot of veggie options and is pretty good.

Lots of veggie friendly decent Thai delivery options - Rice Thai Kitchen, Watana, and Beet.

Bar ToTo on 11th St & 6th has some tasty veggie options as well.

Poll on Best Pizza in Park Slope

I definitely second the Luigi's opinion. Delicious. You'll want to stay on Giovanni's good side, though. Because I have certainly seen him send grown men running with his glare.

Second fave is Tomato & Basil @ Union (referred to as "Grandma's" above). So friendly, such a variety of good things. And they deliver to me all the way down at 18th street. Gotta love that.

Joe's is good, but saying their pies are $18 is being a little misleading. A large plain pie is $12, and most of the one toppings are the same or maybe $14. The only ones more than that are the "specialty" pies - Barbecue Chicken, Chicken Tomato Pesto, Vodka, and 3 cheese. I think a couple of those might be $18. The specialty pies are hit or miss so keep it simple and you'll be happy.

Also, Lenny's is gross.

Bagel place on 5th/17th-closed?

The owner of Has Beans is the proprietor Vin Rouge, I believe.

Have you been to Red Horse Cafe on 12th st & 6th? I live right next to Sutra & Has Beans but choose Red Horse hands down, and make the further walk regularly.

Won't miss it? If you live in the hood and know of a remotely comparable place to get a good bagel please do tell.

Best coffee shop in Brooklyn (to read and study in)

Right, forgot to mention that. Red Horse has WiFi also but closes at 10 I think.

Best coffee shop in Brooklyn (to read and study in)

A fairly new place in South Slope/Greenwood Heights is called Cafe Sutra. The coffee is decent (Black Cat, I think) but it's really cozy & quiet. Awesome study spot. Corner of 18th St & 5th Ave.

Better coffee (Barrington beans), but slightly less cozy and more "cafe" is Red Horse Cafe on 6th Ave & 12th Street in the slope. If you're in the hood be sure to stop by Colson on 9th & 6th for a sandwich. Mediocre service, taaaaaaasty sandwich.
