crawfish etouffee

Sanglier, my wife and I were @ Gallitorie's last Saturday evening for dinner. Crawfish Etouffee was on the menu. I am far from a Crawfish Etouffee expert but I will say that I was very pleased. Both my wife and I agreed it was delicious.

KILL DEVIL HILLS

Many thanks, sounds like we will not miss Colington Cafe.

ROCKPORT TEXAS

Back from a great Rockport weekend. Stayed at the Hoopes House B&B, highly reccomend. Paula the Inn Keeper is friendly, helpful and a fine breakfast chef.
Dined at Latitude 28 in Rockport on Friday night. A restaurant in an Art Gallery. Interesting stuff, food was OK, not memorable. Beachie fare on Sat. night, Crab n'. I would reccomend. A good selection of fish prepared in many styles. We heard no complaints. Our dinners were exactly what we were looking for and expected.

ROCKPORT TEXAS

Many thanks for all your feedback.

Steaming Crabs: Season the Water or the Crabs?

This sounds very similar to my method. I have been doing this for years. I use 1/2 white vinegar (cider vinegar sounds like a better bet, I plan to give it a try) and 1/2 beer, no water. The crabs are steamed, not boiled. Put in a layer of crabs, dust w/ Old Bay, another layer of crabs, dust w/ Old Bay, and so on.
20-30 min's sounds about right. Enjoy!!

Secrets to good meatballs?

1lb ground chuck, 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs, 1/2 cup grated romano, 3 eggs, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.

Cherrystone Clams

We've been in Orlando four years and have not found them. You will find them on Cedar Key in the Big Bend area.

Takeout Thanksgiving dinner for 8 in Palm Beach County

When my Mom could no longer manage the event and could not / would not travel but wanted her kids and grandkids around for T-Day we used Publix. Pre-order, let them know the size of your group, and they will put the whole meal together for you. Our crew was never disappointed.

HOT DOGS IN AUSTIN...

Any standout spots?

Winter Park: Ravenous Pig for lunch

If you do not know the time it will be difficult for you do anything but show up... I have had lunch at the RP on two occasions in the past year. I made reservations for both visits. As I recall there were several waiting w/o reservations, you can eat at the bar, but for a table I think a reservation will be necessary. I suppose the only caveat would be if you arrived early; i.e 11:30 or late, say 1:30.

Fonda San Miguel

Agree with agoodbite. I have dined at FSM in Austin three times in the past two months. Never needed a reservation; Monday night, Wed. night, and one Sat. night. Three people twice, four once.

SAN ANTONIO

Many thanks to all who shared their input. My wife and I dined last evening at BIGA ON THE BANKS. Excellent! From the Pot Stickers App, Hearts of Romain Ceaser, Halibut, and Red Deer and Grilled Quail, the food, and service were top notch. The complimentary bubbles were not bad either. Highly reccomend.

SAN ANTONIO

Fair enough... No kids. Formal? What is formal in Texas??? If necessary I will bring my Tux. We are open to Formal or Casual. We will drive as necessary to experience the best San Antonio has to offer. Cuisine? We are open to just about anything. No sushi, my wife would prefer no Asian. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

SAN ANTONIO

Will be visiting over the Memorial Day Holiday. Staying in the River Walk Area. Have a car. Restaurants not to miss? Open to cuisine, price not an issue. Many thanks,

Favorite places you've lived outside the USA?

Interesting... I had an office on St Gorges Terr. In Perth and was there monthly. We frequently traveled to the Margaret River but although the vineyards were wonderful,(vase felix) as an example and the B&B's were fine, it is difficult to beat the cosmopolitan, world class deliverables of Melbourne.

Any recommendations for casual, good local food in Indianapolis?

Although in my view Indianapolis is culinarily challenged, I believe your best bets are the Mass. Ave. area and the Broad Ripple area. The Cab driver will know where these are. Not uncomfortably far from your hotel. No chains, interesting bars, decent local fare. Enjoy!

SEAFOOD IN AUSTIN??

Many thanks to all. I am in the Northwest and will visit Pacific Star.

FRIED CHICKEN IN AUSTIN??

I have recently relocated to Austin from Orlando. In Orland, Publix Super Market has, arguably, the best chicken in Orlando. So.... I tried HEB chicken a couple of days ago. Almost inedible. Where should I be buying fried chicken?

SEAFOOD IN AUSTIN??

Many thanks for your freedback! I shall make a trip to Quality Seafood...

SEAFOOD IN AUSTIN??

Specifically I'm in search of; fried other than catfish(flounder, cod, etc.), oysters / clams on the half shell.
I am a "repositioned" New Englander. Many thanks

Favorite places you've lived outside the USA?

Melbourne 01-05! Office in the CBD, house in Brighton. The variety of cusine and quality, in my view is unsurpassed. Not to mention 150 vinyards within a two hour drive of the CBD.
We would move back in a heart beat!

So, I'm moving to Austin...

Many thanks Luckyfatima and gilintx. I'm very looking forward to Austin.
