Midland/Odessa places to eat

Because of the oil/construction activity in this area (lack of available hotel rooms), I had to stay in Big Spring (about 35 miles north on I-20). Hog Heaven BBQ on exit 174 had some excellent brisket (tasty, moist & tender). They also had a jalapeno stuffed w/ cream cheese, wrapped w/ bacon and smoked (very good). Pecan cobbler also deserves a try. The owner's and manager were so friendly, they made a carpetbagger like me...lol...want to go back. If you are in the area or just passing through, you really must try this place!
Additionally, Cowboys in Big Spring (exit 177) had some great chicken fried steak...will be going back there also.

Oklahoma City Recommendations

The pho @ Pho Lien Hoa is really good, much better than the pho restaurant that I tried in Tulsa (Mekong River Restaurant). There is another place around the corner on N. Classen called Pho Thai Nguyen that was also pretty good, though not as good as Pho Lien Hoa. Don't even bother with a place calle "Pho-bulous" on S. Broadway in Edmond. They did'nt even have avocado shakes...

Pho 78 - Miami

Pho Binh is good, but they always seem to out of chili oil...Pho Hoa just north of commercial on 441 is better (I think) and its a (gasp) chain! Their broth is "richer" than Pho Binh and Pho 78, which is where I go when in the South Broward area. As for the rest of the menu items, I cannot say as I usually just go for the pho, but I do agree about the rolls at Pho 78.

Butcher Shops in Broward?

Hey gblcsw, Just got back from Smitty's...Great Call! Just what I was looking for. All the beef is prime grade, and they have REAL veal shanks (not that thin cut junk that they sell at the supermarkets) to make Osso Bucco. Thanks for the tip! Its worth the drive!

Butcher Shops in Broward?

Thanks guys! I will definately visit Penn Dutch and Smitty's. I have a Doris near me in Plantation that is ok; sounds like Smitty's is what I am looking for.
Thanks again!

Butcher Shops in Broward?

Does anyone know of any good butcher shops in Broward? West Broward is prefered, but beggars can't be choosy! Thanks!

Ft. Lauderdale BBQ and Mexican

I agree with Dan about the Georgia Pig. It has the best BBQ pork in South Florida. Tom Jenkins & Jack's Smokehouse are both very good, but the Pig rules. It is a "hole in the wall" place & they don't take credit/debit cards, but if you go for lunch you better go early (11:30) or after the lunch rush or be prepared to wait. This place definately has a following! Having lived in Georgia for 10 years and searching out every little hole in the wall BBQ joint there (I hope I found them all), I feel uniquely qualified to say this, but hey, do not discount Jack's or Tom Jenkins-they are both great, too!

Dixie Pig is also good if you like Carolina style BBQ, which has a vinegar base to their sauces. It comes off a little more tangy than the other places, but they do a good job there. You will eat outside in the heat, if that does not bother you.

Stay away from any place that even resembles a chain, franchise or tourist trap. You will not be happy with the results. Good BBQ, for some reason, is always located in a more rustic setting and has a "mom & pop" feel to it.

Looking For Good Eats In Lower Keys

I will be in the Key West area on business all next week. Are there any good, inexpensive restaurants around that will not break my expense account? I am not looking for the usual burger and fries establishments; I want to eat good quality stuff...Thanks for everyones help!

Any good sushi between Ft. Lauderdale and Weston?

Try Little Japan in the Publix shopping center @ S.R. 84 & S.W. 136th Street in West Davie. Its a small place, but they have great sushi. Everyone that I have taken there raves about the food. Try it!

Seminole Hard Rock, Hollywood...anyone been to the restaurants?

I agree with pilches...so-so food with a nose bleed price. I have eaten at Bluepoint, Tatu, Renegade & Tequila Ranch and I have to say that all of the food is mediocre for the $$ spent. Tatu's food is good, but for the $$ I would rather eat at Little Japan in Davie (Justin, the owner, has the most succulent fish there). All of these places benefit from location, location, location. Tequila Ranch is alot of fun once the little kids clear out after 11 p.m. or so...oh yeah-their shrimp ceviche is worth a try...
