Pho meatballs

The meatballs are usually made of ground beef to which potato starch, baking powder, fish sauce, sugar and garlic has been added. The mixture is ground in a food processor or pounded to a smooth paste (much like a fish paste for fish balls). It is then rolled into balls and steamed cooked. The chewy consistency is due to the amount of starch you add in. Hope that helps.

Paulie's (Hou) - anybody?

Love, love, love Paulie's! We go to the Weistheimer location which is cozier than the one on Holcombe. They do make awesome sandwiches and paninis. The shrimp BLT and the pork tenderloin are ones we get regularly. Their nightly specials are really good too. On thursdays you can get a huge plate of osso buco with gnocchi (enough for 2 people) for $17. The portions are generous and the ingredients are extremely fresh. We've loved everything we've ever tried. They also have wines by the glass btw.

Houston- Best prime rib?

Do you know which restaurants serve really good prime rib? Thanks!

Top Chef Finale! (spoilers)

And lie?

Top Chef Finale! (spoilers)

I thought the exact same thing about that scallop dish. It looked so familiar! Except for the protein choice

Top Chef Final 3 - Your Pick?

I really hope Hung wins. He's the best chef!

New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town

La Mora has been closed for a couple of years now. I used to love that place too. The place on Bissonnet is called Antica Osteria. The food is pretty good. Robb Walsh just reviewed it today in the Houstonpress.

My husband is craving sushi in Houston tonight ...

He should try Ginza on San Felipe and Fountainview. It's close to the Galleria and has good authentic sushi.

New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town

Indika in on lower Weisthermer at 516 westheimer on the same side as Katz's.

HOU - Arroz Negro, Rice with black squid ink

Does anybody know if any restaurant serves this dish or a variation of it? I had this dish in Barcelona last year and would love to have it again without having to hop on a plane. I've scoured the tapas bar menu in Houston and haven't seen it. Thank you!

Where to buy dulce leche in San Jose

Does anybody know which supermarket sells dulce leche? Thanks in advance!

Dharma Cafe in Houston?

We love, love this place. It's quaint and very different from restaurants in Houston. You feel it as soon as you step into Dharma. The owners are friendly and really care about their customers. The food is always fresh and prepared with great care. It's a limited menu but we've enjoyed everything we've had there. Lunch on the weekends and brunch outside is great. Dinner inside the restaurant at dusk is nice too. It's a special place. I can't recommend it enough.

HOUSTON, Does anybody know which restaurant serves burrata cheese?

houston 1 nite

A place that opens late and serves really fun food is Max's Wine Dive. You can look up a review done by Robb Walsh at houstonpress.com under restaurants. It will still be somewhat close to where you'll be. They also have a website where you can check out their menu.

I second the choice of Hugo's for dinner. It's a Mexican restaurant that serves very different dishes, not your typical tex-mex. If you can't make it for dinner, they also have a wonderful brunch on Sundays which include upscale food and not-to-be-missed desserts. Hugo's serves food that you probably won't get in Chicago.

Gyros in Houston

You should try Andro's deli on Fondren close to Westpark. It's a mom and pop's kind of place and their gyros are awesome. I prefer them over Niko Niko's.

Houston: Xiao Long Bao or Shanghai Dumplings

Does anybody know of a place in Houston that sells these soup-filled dumplings? I had them at Joe's Shanghai in New York and really crave them. It seems that very few people know what I'm talking about when I mention them. It's surprising since we have a good size chinatown here in Houston. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
