Recommended cooking classes in Kyoto or Osaka? Preferably lunch time/afternoon classes.

We've booked with Emi in Kyoto after reading a few blog posts about her-- I'm a vegetarian, and she offers classes that focus on veg meals, but she seems to have meat/fish/dessert classes as well.

It seemed a reasonable price to learn and eat four dishes, meeting at 3pm and I think finishing around 6 or 6:30? I don't know when you're going to be there but if it's more than 3 weeks away, I'll post more follow up once we've actually done the class.

Seminar dinners near Harvard - $60/head all-in max

I'm going to be in charge of choosing restaurants for some dinners after seminars this semester. The budget is at most $60/head, including tax/tip, and with maybe a bottle of wine for every 4 people. The party size will be 12-20, at a guess. Does anyone have suggestions of where would be good to go? Shouldn't be too far from Harvard Sq - I think Green St is about as far as they've gone in the past.

Dining near the University of Hawaii

Many thanks for all your helpful responses - I just got back, and these suggestions were invaluable! The food on campus did mostly suck, though the vegetarian options in the sustainability courtyard were a good find - thanks. I ate in quite a few places on King St, and ended up renting a bike for some of the time, which made places like Ono's and Leonard's an easy option. In the end I did very well for food, thanks to these tips.

Dining near the University of Hawaii

I'm going to be spending two weeks at a conference at the University. I'm not going to have a car. Where's especially good to eat nearby? Is there anywhere good for breakfast?

Drink opening tomorrow?

Did anyone go last night? We're planning on going this evening (and hoping it won't be stupidly busy straight after work).

Best fresh corn in Chicago?

We've just moved to Chicago, and are trying to work out the best places to buy various ingredients. We've bought fresh corn on the cob at a couple of farmers' markets - last week at the market on Broadway and Melrose, and today at the Green market. In both cases the texture was good, but the corn wasn't nearly as sweet as it might be. Where should we be going?

Off license near Gare du Nord?

Sadly not :-( I think Mondays (and perhaps also Sundays) are also the worst day for this by some distance, as many shops are closed. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Off license near Gare du Nord?

I'm going to be visiting Paris for a day next week by Eurostar, and about the only opportunity for shopping that I'll get will be half an hour before I board the train home. Is there anywhere close to the train station where I can buy wine/beer to take back? I think I've tried this before and failed miserably.

Berkeley: breakfast/coffee/Mexican

I can catch a bus or walk a mile or two without trouble - although that might not be so convenient for breakfast, depending on how jetlagged I am!

Berkeley: breakfast/coffee/Mexican

I'm visiting Berkeley next week, and I have a couple of food questions. I'm staying on Durant Ave, just north of Telegraph by the looks of things, and I won't have a car - are there any good places nearby for getting breakfast pre-9am? Also, where's good for coffee?

Finally, what about Mexican restaurants? I'm coming from London, so places just need to be OK, not amazing, and I've been told that I need to get fish tacos somewhere. Being open on Sunday evening would be a bonus.

Hong Kong - eating as a vegetarian in non-vegetarian restaurants

I'm going to Hong Kong for a week with my vegetarian fiancee. We're from London, and we're used to her vegetarianism not being much of an issue - in cheaper restaurants there are almost always options, and higher end restaurants are happy to cater for her if we phone ahead. Is this likely to be the case in Hong Kong? Will there be any possibility of our going to dim sum places, for example?
