Pierogies in NoVA?
There is a Russian/Kazakh restaurant that serves delicious pierogies but not sure if they are the same as Polish ones.

Weekday breakfast in Arlington (Ballston)
OK, I live near there and often go out to get breakfast because I'm too lazy to make it for myself, so these places are casual. Mike's Cafe (Stuart near Wilson) has great egg sandwiches. There is always Cosi with their breakfast sandwiches. Don't go to the Westin restaurant--their breakfast is not very good.
Quiche in Arlington or Falls Church for dinner??
I'm sure someone will strip me of my Chowhound account, but you can get decent quiche at La Madeleine. There's one at Bailey's Crossroads near the now-defunct Borders.
DC Chow coming to Brooklyn to celebrate retirement--where to go?
I've never been to Henry's End, but Henry's End it is. Will let you know how the meal was for all of us. Only 3 of the 10 of us have ever been there.
tysons chain hell
We went to Nostos a few months ago. Food and service were great, but the place is incredibly noisy.
DC Chow coming to Brooklyn to celebrate retirement--where to go?
I’ve recently retired and my siblings want me to come up to Brooklyn for a celebration dinner. We are looking for something at the price level of Henry’s End or Chestnut and preferably in the following neighborhoods: Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, DUMBO, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and maybe the outskirts of Park Slope (where parking wouldn’t be too difficult). We like Italian, American, French, seafood. Any advice would be much appreciated.
7 nights in Brooklyn
Totally agree they are over-rated. We used to go as kids in the 60s so I was excited to go back and try it now that it was trendy. Way disappointed. No way this was the pizza I used to eat and it was dry and not tasty. This was about 4 or 5 years ago.
What is your single worst meal ever in the DC/Baltimore area?
It was maybe 5 or 6 years ago when Dino first opened. I had a couple of dinners there and really liked it. Then I dragged my husband to a New Years Eve meal. Big mistake. I don't recall all the horrors but there was a steamed fish with no flavor and hardly any fixings. There was a mushroom tart where the pastry was obviously prefab and hard as a rock. Needless to say, my husband never went back. The worst part was how expensive it was for a so-called special meal. I've been there since because I work around there. It is always hit or miss. Not a big fan.
Everyday Eating: Restaurants you frequent
Crystal Thai (Arlington): drunken noodles, pad see ew with beef, Guay Tiew Kaw (or something like that--not on the menu--just ask for it--chow foon noodles with chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, awesome), spicy eggplant with shrimp, pad lard na, pad lard na talay.
Piola (Arlington): greco pizza, honolulu pizza. I love the mozzarella they put on the pizza. Love the crust too.
Boulevard Woodgrill: burger, pulled pork sandwich.
Alexandria, VA suggestions?
I second both Jackson 20 and A la Lucia. J20 can be expensive if you order off the dinner menu; cheaper if you order off the bar menu (which you can even if you sit in the dining area). They also have a great wine list of bottles that are $20. That can cut expenses if you drink wine. A la Lucia has excellent old-style Italian food and prix-fixe deal.
Pitigliano, Paestum and Castellammare di Stabia recs?
I've searched this board but pulled up very little or nothing for these towns. We will be staying 2 nights in Pitigliano, one in Paestum, and our last night will be at the Crowne Plaza in Castellammare di Stabia before driving back to Naples airport for our flight home.
Any recs would be appreciated. We like wholesome, good food at reasonable prices. Doesn't have to be fancy gourmet, just good fresh ingredients.
Thanks!
Restaurant Week-August 2011
I am going to 2941 on Saturday. I think this is the first time they are doing RW for dinner. The following Saturday, we are doing Liberty Tavern which is one of our favorites. They are doing an extended RW.

Best dishes at X.O. Taste?
I've only been there twice but I love their pan-fried pork dumplings and the roast pork and duck over rice. Also they have big cans of Sapporo beer!
Sunday brunch in Old Town
We liked Jackson 20. Their eggs benedict is top notch. Plus they have a bottomless mimosa for something like $9.

Dim Sum, again...
Do you mean in Seven Corners Shopping Center. If so, they have these roast pork croissants (sometimes called triangles) which is my favorite dimsum and I've never seen them anywhere else.
High Tea in DC
I walked into the Four Seasons Georgetown a month ago and they told me they no longer held regular afternoon teas. I'm wondering if the web page is referring to an afternoon tea in the context of holding a wedding or special catering event.
Chocolate Cake or other Dessert Rec for Mother's Day - Virginia
I am a big fan of Tivoli Bakery. They are associated with the Watergate Bakery. Unfortunately they are at Ballston and Rosslyn so doesn't fit your location criteria.
Crystal City/Old Town Recommendation
I love their fried green tomatoes and the shrimp fritters from the bar menu. My gal pals and I will be hitting it for lunch on Saturday so I will follow up and let you know if I am still enthusiastic.
Crystal City/Old Town Recommendation
I'm a regular at a la Lucia so I highly recommend them. Also recommend Jackson 20 for American food.

Medium Rare
My understanding is that you can just order the steak frites. Dessert is optional.
Medium Rare
I've been following this restaurant on the Rockwell forum. They will only take reservations at 5pm and 10pm. Otherwise, first come, first serve. They want a presence on OpenTable so people will read about them.
Reccomendations in Arlington
Actually, if you want from the Ballston Metro west along Fairfax Drive to the Holiday Inn parking lot, you will come upon the Bluemont Junction Trail. You can take this nice walk to where it hits Wilson Blvd. and George Mason Drive.

Mexican Coke
I am a fan of the Mexican coke and any non-US coke because foreign countries make Coke with sugar but in the US (since 1980) they use corn syrup. My hope is that Coke will follow the lead of Pepsi with their throwback (aka sugar) version. Mexican coke is good but it is a lot more expensive than US corn syrup coke.
The best Thai food in DC?
I am a big fan of Crystal Thai in Arlington. My favorites: pad see ew with beef, tofu tod, spicy eggplant with shrimp, guay deow khua (not on menu--just ask for it), cinnamon beef, pad lard na talay, pad lard na, and honey-roasted duck.

Casual Italian In or Near Rosslyn (and Thanks)
I love the pizza at Piola's. The cheese is delicious and the crust is good too. I usually get the Greca, which is pizza with kalamata olives. My husband likes the Honolulu, which is ham and pineapple, but I'm not a fan of that sort of adulteration.

Best French Restaurants in DC?
I think you, me and alkapal are on the same wavelength...
Best French Restaurants in DC?
Tasted like old bay. Plus it had lardons, sausage, beans. Kind of overpowered the escargots. I guess I like the decadent escargot in melted butter with puff pastry on it.
Best French Restaurants in DC?
Unfortunately I was at Bistro Bis for Restaurant Week and did not like the escargot at all. It was like some kind of cajun style escargot--not French style with butter. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I did not like it.
