Friday night - need dinner suggestion - trying to please out of towners & locals with varying palates, etc. (Pasadena area)
You may want to consider abricott on Lake. We enjoyed a lunch there when they first opened a couple months ago. They have a burger on the menu (have not tried it yet). I also agree that Plate 38 is a good possibility.

Hot Cross Buns in LA?
I had a delicious Hot Cross Bun at Europane yesterday. I don’t recall seeing them at Europane before so not sure how often they make them.
Potato Salad in San Gabriel Valley?
I haven’t been there in over a year, but I seem to recall The Pasadena Sandwich Company as having really good potato salad. And I prefer mayo over mustard style.

Malbec in Pasadena, was il Capo Deli
Had lunch at Malbec on Green Street this past Saturday. This is the place that used to be the il Capo Deli, down the block from Cafe Verde. The new owners still feature Argentinean style food. We had the empanadas, a salad and Chicken sandwich. All were very tasty. It’s a nice space and the service was good. We’ll go back again to try some of the other menu items.
pasadena discovery
I think you hit the nail on the head thomtomkins. So many just get to Old Town and base the Pasadena experience on some of the lesser restaurants in that area. Regarding Daisy Mint. We had dinner their last night and really enjoyed it. It is run by the couple that had the “Wild Ginger“ restaurant in Monrovia. The husband was wandering around the dining room, chatting with customers. Says they plan to expand the menu soon.
Paseo Cantina, Pasadena (a review)
Better get to Pasea Cantina soon. I’m afraid they won’t be open much longer if yesterday is the norm. We were there for lunch yesterday (Saturday) and were the only customers in the restaurant. There from about 11:45 am to 12:45. We liked the food. The service was decent. Thought it would have been nice if a manager stopped by to say hello since they didn’t seem to have much else to do.
voice mail reservations?? at madeleines
Madeleines is closed on Mondays. So if you called on Monday it’s possible no one was in the restaurant to take your call. I called them one day last week and got a prompt response. Often the best times to call is before or after the lunch and dinner rush.
Fredo's Philly's in Pasadena...
In response to exilekiss and the gristle query. I was there a couple of months ago for the second time and was disappointed to find quite a bit of gristle in my sandwich. I’m hoping that experience was rare and not the norm. I’ll give it another try someday, but not in a hurry to return.
wok and noodle in alhambra
The SO and I have been here several times and always enjoyed the dishes we ordered.
Outdoor morning burger in Pasadena?
No outdoor seating at Pie N Burger. You might want to try Wolfe Burgers on North Lake. They have a nice outdoor patio in back. I think they are open on Sunday.

Restaurant help in South Pasadena?
Could it be Magnolia on South Lake in Pasadena you are looking for? I think they have valet parking. And could be considered fairly upscale.
Late lunch in Pasadena or Montrose for this Sunday
Also in Montrose on Honolulu is the Black Cow Cafe. We love this place for a nice casual breakfast/lunch. They should be open late afternoon.
NYC Chowhound visiting Claremont/Pomona
A nice day trip would be the Huntington Library in Pasadena. Stroll around the gardens and galleries then have lunch at Rose Garden Tea Room. Better make reservations (http://www.huntington.org/Information/tearoom.html). You should be able to drive there from Claremont within an hour.
