Need party food suggestions!
Mark Bittman has a great list of really easy apps: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/19/dining/19mini.html.
cooking or food clubs?
Fruti, did you ever find anything? My husband and I have been part of cooking clubs in the past but don't really have anything going on now, and would like to start up again. I am in the Peninsula though.
Ad Hoc, an off night? (long post)
i was there probably the same night as foodeye, because this was the exact menu. we had 7 PM reservations. we actually had a great meal -- yes, the soup was a bit thin but the broth was very tasty and the tomatoes in the soup were wonderful. our shrimp/chicken/lentil dish was delicious, all were perfectly cooked. the cheese course was good but not out of this world, and our group actually really enjoyed the s'more dessert, especially the caramel sauce. plus, our service was outstanding. perhaps the lesson is to go later in the evening? this was my second time at Ad Hoc and I can't wait to go back. perhaps someday i'll be able to make the fried chicken night.
Saul's in Berkeley
I just went there for the first time and thought it was excellent. It was packed on a Saturday evening at 6 PM. I will definitely be going back the next time I'm up at Berkeley.
Need Lunch Restaurant in Route to Palo Alto Tomorrow
Rangoon is Burmese, and I thought it was pretty decent the two times I went. Not sure about the hours.

Thai Food in Palo Alto???
I don't think there's any fantastic Thai food in Palo Alto. I do go to Indochine on Middlefield because it is close to my house, inexpensive, and decent.
Rehearsal dinner: Cafe Gibraltar or Barolo?
Haven't been to Barolo or Gibraltar, but wanted to put in a plug for some restaurants where I've had some very nice group dinners:
Left Bank in Menlo Park (great upstairs private room)
Tied House in Mountain View ("Beer Garden" covered outdoor patio -- probably too casual for you but we had our 40 person rehearsal dinner there and the food, staff, and ambiance were all great.)
Tamarine in Palo Alto (very pricey, but the food is amazing)
Zibbibo in Palo Alto (multiple private rooms, good food, good service)
Zitune in Los Altos (did not have a group dinner here but they do have a private room, and the food was fantastic. this is a newer restaurant)
Clover Organic Eggnog
thanks for the rec, i've been looking for some good store-bought egg nog and will have to give it a try. i am really missing Hood egg nog since moving out to the west coast.
Rehearsal Dinner for 25 in peninsula?
Tied House in Mountain View has a great private room called the Beer Garden. We had a rehearsal dinner for 40 there and they did a great job. Very inexpensive for the area too, we paid $15/pp (not including alcohol). The service and food were EXCELLENT.
Green Elephant Gourmet - Burmese in Palo Alto
Since I live in midtown, I have gone to the Green Elephant Gourmet a few times. I do enjoy the food, but that is because I am not expecting it to be authentic in any way... I'd place it in the same category as Chef Chu's in Los Altos, although I actually like it better than Chef Chu's. I moved to Palo Alto from Boston a year and a half ago, and so I occasionally crave "Bostonized" Chinese food... the crab rangoon at Green Elephant really hits the spot.
