Top ten favorite things to eat (and where to get them) in Baltimore

hon, I was researching crab houses to try (Specifically Mr. Bill's) and make a reservation this weekend and saw that you put Skipjacks on you list for Favorite Eat In Crab house. That was almost a year ago so I wanted to see if you still felt that way. It's close to where I live (Hamilton) so I thought maybe I'd give it a try. I never hear anyone else mention it so I was curious! Thanks!

You recommended Conrads to me 5 years ago and I still go there... so I trust ya!

Chef's Table Recommendations?

Thanks for the rec. This sounds wonderful!

Chef's Table Recommendations?

Hello
a group of my friends with October Wedding Anniversaries wants to dine together and would like to do a Chef's Table. Baltimore/Annapolis location is preferred, but DC recs appreciated also.

As far as cuisine, our first pick is Mediterranean, but we are pretty much open for anything.

TIA!

Ed's Country Bakery in Frederick MD

I know this is 3 years late... but I did end up using Ed's Country Bakery for our wedding. He uses butter from his own farm to make the most incredible buttercreams (Italian). And his prices are unbelievable. $15 for a dozen cupcakes. We wish he was closer so we could order more for anniversaries, birthdays etc.

Chef Mac's (And all that Blues) Buffet

Hello
Has anyone gone to Chef Mac's for the Blues Show and Buffet? I've eaten the food at the Lauraville Farmer's market but am thinking of going to the show which includes a Buffet for $25.

Just wondering what is on the Buffet and if it's worth going...

TIA

Valentino's on Harford Rd./Baltimore

always wondered about that place... it always scared me away... I envisioned a dirty, dingy diner catering to a late night/early morning crowd. I certainly will give it a second look!

Need Current Info re: Best Crabcake

anyone I've ever taken to Koco's has love them...

Dining tonite at Iron Hill Brewery in Lancaster

BBQ Catering

Big Bad Wolf on Harford Road catered both my son's first birthday party and his baptism party. No fried chicken, but very delicious grilled/roasted Eastern Shore Chicken. They also have fantastic pulled pork sandwiches. The sides are very good as well. The beans are incredibly good as is the mac and cheese, collard greens and fresh cut fries. Very reasonably priced as well.

Chef Mac's Louisiana Cuisine, on Harford Road

to clarify the confusion above on the location... The were in the old Alabama BBQ location, but they have since moved to Parkside's previous location.

New Restaurants in/by the Senator Theatre

I'm looking forward to both! I also heard a 5 Guys in opening in Belvedere Square. Some may not be excited regarding that.. but I am! I live in Lauraville and sometimes satisfying my burger craving at Hamilton Tavern is to taxing :)

Just wish I knew when any of them were opening....

New Restaurants in/by the Senator Theatre

Hello
I heard in passing that there will be 2? new restaurants beside/inside the Senator Theatre. I heard one will be a Tapas place and will be ran by the same guy who owns Tapas Teatro...

anyone know anything else about this? What the second restaurant is... When they are opening, etc? I literally know what I listed above and I'm not even sure it is accurate.

TIA

Good Spanish Tapas in Baltimore

Hello!
My step daughter is moving to Spain in September and I am looking for the best Spanish Tapas restaurant in Baltimore / Baltimore area to take her out to before she leaves. I just had a baby in January so I am very much out of the loop on what is happening in the restaurant world now... I've heard there is a "new" tapas place called Tapas Adela in Fells Point and I also know of (and have been to) Tapas Teatro. I'm not sure if I am missing any others or not... that's where you come in!

I'm seeking some place that it isn't necessary to dress up (like Tapas Teatro) but where we could also bring a 6 month old (not like Tapas Teatro!)... We'd be going out during the week as that is when she would be in town to get her visa.

any help is greatly appreciated!
TIA!

Sahale Valdosta Blend- Pecan, Sweet Cranberry, Black Pepper, Orange Zest

Has anyone had these? They are fabulous however they are also fabulously expensive--which I was living with, but now the store I got them from doesn't carry them anymore! I was looking for someone who has had them and can figure out how to replicate the spice on the pecans...I am not very good at that sort of thing so was hoping for some 'hound insight.

TIA!

Where can I find great nachos in Baltimore?

I second Holy Frijoles... just had them last Friday... fantastic

Baltimore-Blueberry Pie

ah... oh, wow...that does look good... kinda what I was hoping it would be... do you know if you have to buy a whole cake at Fenwicks or can you get half cakes etc...

thanks hon!

Baltimore-Blueberry Pie

I live in Hamilton/Lauraville and have repeatedly heard about this "peach cake"... I think i finally have to ask what it is? A sponge cake with peaches? And actual frosted cake with peach icing...

so in the dark here! what is it? and what makes it so tasty? Also curious about the smearcase... are we talking bagel smear? Guess I should get my butt to Fenwicks...but in the meantime...

help!

Koko's Pub on Harford Rd

Drive 2 blocks down the street and hit Clementine for dessert... theirs are fabulous.

Crabcakes

Koco's Pub has some of the best crabcakes (the best I've had) in Baltimore and they do ship.

Koko's Pub on Harford Rd

I've never been able to order anything other than the crabcake...but last time I was there I saw someone's burger and it looked really, really good. We got the steamed shrimp as an appetizer last time as well and they were great too.

Would you consider me a chowhound if...

OP here... Yep, this got as varied of responses as I thought it might! I appreciate everyones view... I don't like labels either, basically I was seeking a view consensus here. I think I am on the same page as alanbarnes on this. His reply was most elequoent and spot on. I definitely don't consider a food an necessary evil - I plan my vacations around the restaurants I want to visit. I don't only go to "foodie" restaurants because it's hip to eat there.. and I have a long list of hole in the walls that I frequent just as much as any hi-end restaurant. I use Chowhound as a resource for finding out about the new places everyone is enjoying and look forward to trying them for that purpose. Some I like - Some not so much. A few restaurants in my city are "hated" by local hounds but I love it and still go all the time. So I am certainly not just going where the "Foodie crowd" says it's cool to go.

Regarding the stuff that I won't eat... obviously I have eaten veins, gristle, fat and skin and they just gross me out. Sorry, the gag reflex is just on auto-pilot. Organs, perhaps if I tried them i would like them... I would agree with that statement.... maybe someday! - however it's never been offered to me at a dinner party etc and I'm never going to pay money to try something that I am probably not going to like - so as I said... maybe someday I'll get there.

Thanks everyone for the imput!

Would you consider me a chowhound if...

So my friends and I were talking the other day and it got me thinking about what the general consensus is on the definition of a "foodie" or a "hound".

I would consider myself an foodie however I have a long list of things in the "protein" area that I absolutely will NOT eat. I cannot and will not eat any type of organ, tripe, brains, veins, gristle, fat, skin, marrow... you get the picture. However I love eating mussels, clams and raw oysters...hmmm... But when it comes to the meat department I am a dissecting fiend. You should see me eat a buffalo chicken wing!

So, am I mislabeling myself? I love going to "foodie" restaurants (cannot stand chains) and certainly don't order the tamest thing on the menu... but I will never change my tune on eating those things mentioned above.

just curious for comments and similar stories!!

Easter Brunch Baltimore

OK I swear I did my due diligence and searched this board on this topic in advance. I was shocked that nothing came up.

So I am looking for recs for a good brunch on Easter Sunday. Ordinarily I would rule out buffet... but I am open to buffet suggestions as well.

Nothing ethnic please. My family will want traditional American fare on this...

TIA

Clementine - Hamilton

OMG! That coconut cake! I wish I had never tried that cake. I live right down the street and we go there quite a bit. However I never tried the cake. (not the biggest coconut fan). 2 weeks ago we had dinner there and I tried it... Let's just say, we've gotten take-out from there twice since just so I can get the cake! And I'm thinking lunch there this Friday as well since I am off... -- oh, yeah and the mac and cheese is great also. As was my entree of duck meatballs over pasta in a rose sauce...

Tapas in Baltimore?

I would give Tapas Teatro on Charles street a shot. The Charles Theatre is right next door so you can have a very traditional "dinner and a movie" date night to boot!

Changes at Bicycle

I may have assumed something incorrect. I read on here that it was under new management (this was a Jan. 2009 post). And on the website it mentions something about "old owners"... I guess I put 2+2 together and got an incorrect assumption!

So is it still a good place to check out? I've actually not been there yet...
