Best Trini/Jamaican/Roti shop in NYC?

I'm also still really missing Ram's, but have recently discovered Shayna's on Church Avenue and East 10th street (right off of Coney Island Avenue). The food is incredible and the roti skins are the freshest I've ever had.

Where to get good pies in Brooklyn for Thanksgiving

Brancaccio's on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Windsor Terrace/Kensington has fantastic apple and pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. Not sure if you have to pre-order.

North Indian/Pakistani like Shalimar

Ah, Shalimar! There is nothing more wonderful than the smokey delicious smell that you take home on your clothes after a trip there. Hubby and I had many many many meals at Shalimar and Pakwan in the Mission and they are two of the things that we miss most since leaving in SF 4 years ago. I totally agree about S. Indian being much better than most N. Indian places here. While we've yet to find anything as good as Shalimar/Pakwan, there are a few places worth trying...Mumbai Xpress in Floral Park (veg), Pakistan Tea House in Tribeca, 5 Star Indian Cuisine in Long Island City (haven't been but have heard good things), Punjabi Deli (veg) on the Lower East Side, Madina on Coney Island Avenue, Shandar also on CIA, and Suganda Restaurant on McDonald Avenue (not the most woman-friendly spot). I've also heard good things about MashAllah on CIA. Let us know what you discover, and happy eating!!!

Devi or Tamarind for Restaurant Week Lunch?

I'm thinking about trying Devi or Tamarind for Restaurant Week lunch. Any strong feelings for or against either place? I have never tried either because I am usually wary of high-end/fusion Indian cooking---Saravana Bhavan, Minar, Madina, and Southern Spice are my usual haunts. I lived in Tamil Nadu, South India, for a year about 16 years ago and have been hooked on Indian food (from all regions) since. I fear regretting putting the down the $24.07 when i could have just gone a few blocks away for an excellent meal.

Best Burger in Bay Area?

i'm suprised not to see any of my personal faves here...burger joint on valencia has deelish niman ranch burgers. taylor's refresher burgers down at the ferry building are on the yummiest buns and i'd never say no to a burger from slow club with their perfect fries. all of these places use hormone-free meat. okay, wishing i could have a cheese burger right now!
