Grand Sichuan Times Square

After eyeing "Old Mom's Rabbit Head at Chengdu Airport," for a while, we ordered it last night with our delivery. 4 bucks, why not? Didn't realize it would actually BE a rabbit's head, cleaved in two and glazed with sauce. Ah. I'm ashamed to say none of us got up the guts to dig in. In a different setting, I think I'd be braver, but a rabbit's head in a take out container just doesn't call out to me. I know, cowardly. What can you do.

What Recent Meal "Blew You Away"?

I second Ssam. Had an absolutely incredible meal there. Only thing I would have skipped was the sweetbread dish. May even be off for Spring. And that is just my taste, I think...

Recommendations for cheesecake in Midtown.

Since you'll be very close, walk around the corner to Little Pie Company on 43rd between 9th and tenth. Spectacular dessert bakery, cute, quiet, and I'm pretty sure they have amazing cheesecake.

Lupa's booked...now what?

Or Otto. I know it's not as well liked on these boards, but I've had many excellent meals there.

Decent Chinese in Hell's Kitchen?

Wu Liang is very good, but also quite pricey. Last time I went and took some friends, they had some sticker shock, and I felt guilty because I had forgotten about the menu pricing there. Food was very good though.
Since we lost Grand Szechuan on Ninth, Hell's Kitchen hasn't been the same. That sounds dramatic. But it's a drag. At least Pam Real Thai is of equal or better quality (please don't flame, I know it's not Chinese).

Bacon Chocolate Bars

Had one tonight. Delicious-- the smoked salt is a great flavor layer as well.

Favorite out-of-context menu items?

Tater Tots at Butcher SHop? I haven't even had them, I just love that they're there.

Fried Chicken?

I want to ask again whether anyone has tried the fried chicken at Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus? Maybe I'll give it a go this week and report back.

Fried Chicken?

I absolutely agree. Thighs are the best-- I'm not a huge fan of fried wings.

Fried Chicken?

Ha! I know-- but have you noticed that most fried chicken in NY city (barring fast food) averages $16? And you dont generally get 4 pieces. And it's not usually especially good. So compared w/ the rest of Summer Shack's prices, it seemed reasonable. Have never been to Cornerstone-- will def check it out.

Fried Chicken?

Anyone ever try the fried chicken at Jasper Whites Summer Shack? It looked like a good deal at $12 for 4 pieces. Never ever find that price in NY for FC. And what about Charley's Sandwich Shoppe? Saw FC on their menu yesterday.

Canned FoieGras (sealed)--Refrigerate??

Thanks-- Yeah, strange, right? It says 'A conserver au refrigerateur'. I figure it's ok-- unless it smells off, I think we'll go for it.

Canned FoieGras (sealed)--Refrigerate??

I bought some canned Foie Gras at Bastille market about 2 weeks ago. Brought it home happily for my folks, and upon inspecting the can, realized that it said "Keep Refrigerated". Can this be right? Is my Foie Gras destroyed? Is it dangerous to eat? I've never put a sealed can in the fridge before. Oh man...TIA.

best lunch near sacre coeur/paris

No worries! Looking back on my post I think I came off as negative-- Bovak was a lovely place to land in Paris, excepting the food not being great, the experience was lovely and distinct. It's tough in this neighborhood, so touristy, and it being August as well. So thanks!

best lunch near sacre coeur/paris

Just got back from Bovak. Very nice people, nice location, food mediocre. Poulet Bovak was dryyyyyy. The chef was hanging out in the bistro wearing the filthiest apron I've seen in a while. And it is, in fact, Rue Paul Albert.

Best Guidebook for Paris and Normandy?

I'm looking for the best possible general guidebook for these two regions-- I'm spending nearly a month (August) in Normandy and 2 weeks in Paris. I already have Pudlo Paris, and I'm looking for something that incorporates both food and sightseeing well. Any suggestions? TIA!!

Has anyone tried new Mitchel London Pizza?

Noticed it's opening on 9th ave right next to Burgers and Cupcakes. Definitely will try it out in the next week or so. Saw Mitchel outside and he said it's been open a week, and that they will be doing single slices soon.

Suggestions for Webster or Rochester, NY?

My absolute favorite burger in Rochester is actually in Webster at Charlie Riedel's, 1843 Empire Blvd at Bay Ave. Order "Charlie" burgers with everything and curly fries. Excellent. This is quintessential upstate NY stuff, including the teenage staff and their serious Rochester accents. Funny enough, no one has mentioned Nick Tahou's and the famed "Garbage Plate". It's located downtown in Rochester, worth the trip for the experience-- Google it for exact directions. I recommend the daytime. Have fun.
Oh! And I second the recommend for El Rincon in Sodus. Fantastic Mexican.
