food trucks
Buttermilk Truck is a fabulous choice. I also love Lobsta Truck...very fresh lobster rolls. Don't forget about the Grand Daddy of them all, Kogi. For dessert, try Sweets Truck or if you just want ice cream go for Coolhaus although they are not speedy servers.
Ludo is s*l*o*w.
Chocolate Cake suggestions near Manhattan Beach
Sorry Kevin, I don't think they do. And if you specifically want a chocolate raspberry, best to order the day before to make sure it is there waiting for you. I also forgot the iced cookies. I don't know what it is about them, but I crave them. Used to love the kid's school events because invariably someone brought them....
Chocolate Cake suggestions near Manhattan Beach
Becker's in downtown. Our go to family birthday cake is the chocolate layer, raspberry filling, chocolate butter cream frosting. Once we ordered this one, we never tried another there but I have had the cupcakes which are pretty darn good. So are the sandwiches. And you will be patronizing a local business to boot.
Freezing Macaroni and Cheese?
Yes, Martha Stewart. I must admit there is only one other MS recipe that I repeat. Chocolate chip toasted almond cherry cookies. (I forget the real name!) I froze the mac and cheese in the casserole dish and will try to thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat.
Freezing Macaroni and Cheese?
My bad. I only searched for macaroni and cheese not mac and cheese! Thanks for the link!
Freezing Macaroni and Cheese?
I just made a double recipe of MS Mac and Cheese and found out I will not have guests after all. Even though this is delicious, I doubt we can eat it every day! So, can I freeze? Before or after baking? Thanks so much!
Storing limes
I always zest lemons before juicing and freeze. It is very easy just to break off a chunk and use straight from the freezer in recipes which are then cooked or baked. I haven't noticed any side effects from freezing other than a very slight decrease in potency.
Need Breakfast Casserole Ideas
Ooooh, is it possible to post the recipe for the french toast with peaches and Grand Marnier casserole? I'm throwing a post graduation brunch Saturday and this would be perfect!
South Bay Favorites (VERY LONG)
Tapa Meze is no longer. Really too bad since the Happy Hour, esp. $5 martinis on Fridays was fabulous. Granted....food wasn't chowhound worthy but still...what a deal!
Bazaar is Wack
We were treated quite well by the hostess staff. I did make a point of speaking to the hostess by name that took our reservation and thanked her for the small favor of changing our reservation time by 30 minutes. Perhaps that personal touch helped. I saw no favoritism the night we were there celebrating my 17 year old's birthday. We were treated quite well and were even given a few samples and were visited by several staff throughout our meal. We had none of the dishes you ordered so I cannot comment on the quality of your choices but we were very happy with ours, even the price seemed appropriate. I surely hope our next visit will mirror our first and that your experience is not the new norm.
Best Mac &Cheese ever recipe
Funny, he's 17 and for the first time ever, asked me if I could put this recipe in the "regular rotation" if it wasn't too much trouble. I didn't even know I *had* a regular rotation!
Best Mac &Cheese ever recipe
I made this last week and totally ruined the blue box for my son forever. He'll never go back again! Thanks for pointing out the MS recipe. LOVED it!
Yet another birthday request...with a twist!
Try getting a table at Bazaar for a Saturday or Sunday night. At a decent dining hour. We're disappointed to say the least, but thank you all for that suggestion. It'll be tucked away for the future. Too bad ds was intrigued!
Dinner in Manhattan Beach
Rock N Fish is noisy and crowded, Jackson Village Bistro is neither. Depends on what kind of mood you're looking for...
Yet another birthday request...with a twist!
Yep, I'm bad at explaining. Believe it or not, being a teenager, he just doesn't equate sushi with fish! I think it's the cooked aspect but who can understand the teenage mind? He likes more adventuresome food in some respect. He's been to Mastros several times. Last year's birthday for one. He loved Koi (but the portions were too small for him) and Katana even more. What would fit the bill would be a tasting menu that had a bit of everything...but it should have at least a few OMG dishes.
Yet another birthday request...with a twist!
I'm at a loss. My birthday boy...17...loves excellent food (not fish and not Mexican, loves sushi and steak) and we want to celebrate his birthday AND his really wonderful SAT scores that just came. He has been given his wish to go anywhere but he is just too overwhelmed looking here and elsewhere for suggestions. Price is pretty much no object, no drinking except maybe for mama. If Providence was not mainly cooked fish, that would be the choice. Any ideas?
Birthday dinner this Monday night, help please!
Thank you so much for your replies. I will be staying with a friend's family and want to include them in the celebration but as a surprise and a thank you for hosting us. I think I will make a local reservation and also No. 9 and let them choose. You guys are great...!
Birthday dinner this Monday night, help please!
I knew my post wasn't specific enough but I don't have specifics! I *might* have the use of a car into Boston proper, but I don't have a problem using public transportation unless that is not advisable at night. Anything local to Newton is doable. I want really good food; food I cannot cook at home. You only turn 50 once. A quick look at the board revealed NO.9 Park which seems like a good fit but I don't know if I can get there. Anything like that closer?
Birthday dinner this Monday night, help please!
I will be visiting from LA with my college searching son and celebrating my 50th Monday night and would love a great food recommendation...please nothing formal...not more than $90pp (or not *much* more!). I will be staying in Newton if that helps. I know nothing about the Boston area. Son would prefer a "not only fish" restaurant.
Allergic reaction to alcohol
Must admit I haven't been keeping track. Although...I *have* been using a glass or two of wine to bring on the flush during these cold winter days...It's like a built-in heater!
how can i quickly defrost a chicken without a micro wave any suggestions?
I do the same (in a zip lock) but weigh it down so that it is completely submerged. I never use the microwave to defrost as this method allows for even defrosting.
Allergic reaction to alcohol
Found this thread by a fluke and yes, add me to the list. 49 year old white female. I started flushing and feeling heat in my face about a year ago when I drank wine. Now it can be any alcoholic drink and to make matters worse (or better, depending on your orientation!) it doesn't always happen....even with identical drinks. I am going to start a drink and food diary to find any possible correlations and I hope that many of you do the same so that we might find similarities. Yes, it's embarrassing to have people constantly commenting on my red face.
Manhattan Beach Musts?
Geoff...great summary! It'll be oft quoted, I'm sure!
Of your list, LPQ, Wahoo's, Kettle, and Becker's (to go sandwiches) will be the closest to $10pp.
Looking for acceptable restaurant close to LAX w/ kids
It's fast food hamburgers but definitely not McDonalds...the famous In N Out is just outside the airport grounds. Every time we pick up visitors we *have* to bring them there first!
Kirkland Signature Vodka (Costco)
At my Costco in Manhattan Beach, Kirkland is the same price as Ketel.
Vodka Infusions
Infused vodka question...is it imperative that the infusion sit in glass jars? Why not a sealed tuperware container? I've made pineapple infusions this way and I'm wondering if there is a taste difference. I'm planning on starting a cranberry infusion for gifts and want to know if I need to go mason jar hunting.....
Best Ice Cream in los angeles????
Perfectly explained the difference. Now if Deliceuse would only expand their hours! In the winter they have often been known to close early so call first.
Chicken fat....how long to keep?
Hmmm. Two to one. Anyone else care to chime in? Or anyone have a recipe that is worth the artery splurge?
