Can anyone recommend a restaurant in MD that's open on Thanksgiving, but wouldn't require a reservation? I'm in the Silver Spring area but willing to go anywhere in the area. I've looked through the other posts on Thanksgiving dinners, but all of the restaurants I've seen require reservations. I have guests coming in and I'm not sure when they will get here, so I'm reluctant to commit to a specific reservation time.

It doesn't have to be fancy or specifically Thanksgiving food. However, I'm not sure how adventurous my guests are as far as Asian food so I'd like to find something that's not Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc.\

This may be a bit out of your way, but my favorite ice cream shop in the Southeast is Gelati Celesti in Richmond VA. Their homemade ice cream is fabulous, very rich and thick with great flavor. I've been known to drive through Richmond just to get a pint of their Chocolate Decadence. The shop is in a strip mall out in the suburbs (behind the movie theatre), but it's not too far from 295 - if you're driving through the Richmond area and want an ice cream break, it's worth stopping.

I'm traveling from DC to the Outer Banks, and I was looking for someplace to stop about halfway, along I-64. Ideally I'd like to get through Richmond and stop before I hit Norfolk, so anywhere from the edge of Richmond down to Newport News would be fine. Unfortunately, the choices are limited in that area! I'd like to stay reasonably close to the interstate - I don't really have the time to go all the way into Williamsburg or I would stop at the Cheese Shop. (Another time!)

Any suggestions? I'm not a huge fan of Pierce's so I was hoping to find another alternative.

A friend who lives in Richmond (Southside suburbs) was looking for a grocery store that delivered. I grew up in Richmond, but haven't lived there in many years. But I've lived in a lot of other places (cities and suburbs), and in the last few years it seems like grocery delivery was available almost everywhere. But I did some internet searching and can't find anything in Richmond. (I thought Ukrops used to offer this, but it's gone now, along with Safeway.) The best I found were a couple of places that seem to be personal shopping services, and their selection was surprisingly limited. Is there any place that I'm missing?

I'm meeting a couple of friends in the Woodley Park area, and we'd like to go out for a casual dinner, preferably somewhere nearby (Adams Morgan is also OK). One of my friends is vegan, so it needs to be vegan-friendly. I checked out some of the previous discussions on vegetarian restaurants in DC, but I'm not that familiar with the city (I just moved her a couple of weeks ago). And it seems like some of the restaurants in the area have closed or moved - we were thinking of going to Ghana Cafe but it seems to be closed.

I'm going to be moving to the White Oak area of Silver Spring at the end of the month, and I'll probably be busy unpacking for the first couple of weeks. Are there any good places nearby to get takeout or delivery?

I'm going to a play at the Hershey Theatre in a couple of weeks. The show starts around 7, and I'd like to have dinner beforehand - preferably somewhere nearby so I don't risk getting lost and missing the play! Someplace casual and not too expensive - I'm spending enough on the tickets. I looked at the Hershey web site, but all of the restaurants listed seem rather expensive.

I checked some of the previous posts about Hershey, but I wasn't sure which places would be near enough to downtown Hershey so I wouldn't risk being late, and where I could get in and out before 7 pm. (And would be comfortable for someone eating alone.)

Any suggestions?

I have heard good things about Sovana, but when I looked at their web site, they seemed very formal. For example, they say that reservations are "strongly recommended". Are they more casual at lunch? I didn't want to have to make a reservation in advance, in case my plans changed.

(I'm planning on going to Hanks for breakfast!)

I'm planning to visit the Longwood Gardens area in the next week or two. I'm planning on going to Longwood in the morning and Brandywine River Museum in the afternoon (or vice versa, depending on the weather), and I'd love to stop and have a nice lunch in between the two.

I know both places have their own café's, but I wasn't sure if that was the best place to go, or if there was a better place in the area. I'd like to have an enjoyable, relaxed lunch, but someplace casual enough where I could eat by myself in my sweats and tennis shoes and not feel out of place.

I moved to King of Prussia about a year ago, and I've never had food delivered here. I love to cook, and if I want to go out, I'll usually go to a sit-down restaurant where I can get something luxurious. I'll occasionally get takeout pizza or something like that.

But I'm going to be having surgery in a few weeks, and I won't be able to drive for a couple of weeks afterwards. It would be nice to pick up the phone and get something delivered, when I get tired of reheating stuff in the microwave! But I don't really know whether there are any places around here that deliver - I know some takeout places but I don't think most of them deliver.

Any good suggestions? I live fairly near the mall, to give a better idea of where I'm located.

I'm going to downtown Philly next week for some meetings - I'm planning to take the train to 16th and JFK (Suburban station) and walk from there. I'm new to the area and I haven't been downtown yet. I was hoping to have dinner nearby, before taking the train home to the 'burbs.

I checked the online yellow pages to see what was nearby, but there are so many restaurants in the area, I'm not sure where to start. I was hoping to find someplace fairly casual, where I could eat early (I don't know when I'll be done for the day, but probably about 5 pm, or perhaps even earlier) and where I can eat alone without being stuck at a noisy bar.

Any suggestions? I checked the archives, but all the neighborhood names are confusing for a newbie.

I had fried clams at Legal Seafood in King of Prussia a couple of weeks ago, and they weren't very good. They had a really odd, almost sour taste to them. I kept thinking "I'm paying Legal Seafood prices for this! I've had better clams at Howard Johnsons!" The clam chowder was lovely, as always, but I'll be looking elsewhere for my fried clams.

I recently moved to Atlanta - I'm living in Roswell although I've ventured further afield to find good restaurants!

Even though I've found some great places to eat, I'm still looking for good places for takeout. I'm usually alone, and it's often a pain to eat alone in a restaurant - if the restaurant is busy you end up stuck at the bar where some drunk guy tries to hit on you, or the waitress sticks you next to the kitchen and ignores you. So when I just want good food (that I don't have to cook), I like to get takeout.

But even restaurants that are good at sit-down dinners aren't necessarily good for takeout. I've been checking out various places, but I'm still looking for some hidden gems.
