Alexander Valley Pickles

I thought I'd share a great pickle...real NY style when young, as is green, half-sour...It's Alexander Valley Manhattan style pickles. It's available at Pacific Market and Fiesta in Santa Rosa, and Sebastapol, and I tasted them at a "customer appreciations day" at Pacific Market, along side David's Pastrami. It's a great match, and these seem to be a real New York match together, as long as you have some great rye bread.

Beautiful Pork Belly - but what to do??

Pork belly, slowly braised in Chinese master sauce is the most decadent luxury treatment to this inexpensive cut of pork. Master sauce recipes can be Googled asking for a recipe by Ken hom, Martin Yan, or just try feeling lucky.

The Pastrami at Saul's

I heard about Saul's and went to Berkeley to have a pastrami sandwich and some sliced meat. Too salty, with too much clove in the spice mixture.

Pastrami and The City

I thought great pstrami was a New York or an L.A. thing, until I tasted David's pastrami at Dean & De Luca in soho New York and found out it's from San Francisco. It seems that Dean & De Luca in Napa Valley has had it for years, and it's available in San Francisco at Ferry Plaza Golden Gate Meats. Tom Colicchio's 'wichcraft restaurants in New York and now San Francisco uses it in their pastrami sandwiches. Great depth of flavor not like most commercial pastrami.
