Ducasse - Three Stars?

One of the best food bloggers in London has been and the results may surprise you

http://cheesenbiscuits.blogspot.com/2010/10/alain-ducasse-at-dorchester-park-lane.html

Herne Hill [London]

If a pub is Ok the food at The Florence is better than average. It's 50m from the station.

St John Bread and Wine - Sunday Lunch Thoughts [London]

Apart from the St John mothership, a lot of the St J alumni's places often have it (Anchor & Hope, Gt Queen St, Harwood Arms etc)

London restaurant recommendations near Aldgate East tube station

Please don't confuse St John B&W (adjacent to Christ's Church Spitalfields) and St John (close by St Bartholomew's in Smithfield). Tayyab's shouldn't be too hard to get into at weekday lunch (you can book). A couple of places to check out in the area; Rosemary Lane and Cafe Spice Namaste.

For single malts, there's a branch of Oddbin's at the far end of Leman Street -> Dock Street that has a pretty good selection. Five minutes further on Vaughan Way is a branch of Waitrose that occasionally has good offers on malts.

Enjoy your trip.

Hereford/Ledbury - Lunch Recommendations?

Saw the title of this post and was all set to give my tuppence-worth on the relative merits of The Ledbury vs. Hereford Road. Glad I noticed before I made a compete plank of myself.

Did my homework..couple of open spots..help

Also, if/when you call The Sportsman and want to take the tasting menu at lunch, mention it at the time of booking. Means that they can try to get you an early slot because you will be there for several hours (in a good way).

Tayyab's - London - 2nd visit, and I'm still underwhelmed.

Blimey, who knew. I stand corrected.

Tayyab's - London - 2nd visit, and I'm still underwhelmed.

Well, in the ten years that I've been going to Tayyab's, I've never seen it (and I've eaten a fair bit off-menu). That Independent piece also says they don't take reservations (which they do).

One point, Tayyab's doesn't sell chicken tikka masala.

Foody stuff around Waterloo/County Hall? [London]

Yes. The best way to deal with it is to aim to be in at about 9.00AM and out by 10.30.

Don't miss Neal's Yard Dairy or Mrs. King's pie stall. Or the jamon at Brindisa. Or the sausage roll at Ginger Pig.

Foody stuff around Waterloo/County Hall? [London]

Ten minute bus ride to Borough Market. Get there early. Plenty of snack/lunch options available. My go-to lunch options on a Saturday near Waterloo are either Masters Superfish or the Anchor & Hope.

Sunday Roast DInner (Not Lunch) Near the Tower of London

Well, apart from the fact that it's not open on Sunday evenings another good reason not to visit the Fox & Anchor is that it's a piss-poor pub. What used to be a decent Smithfield boozer has been given the Olde Worlde treatment by the Malmaison hotel group, whose City joint is next door. Pewter tankards? Food is grim too. Presumably opened so that tourists at the hotel can ask for a recommendation of a real London pub and can be directed here with no fear of having to interact with any pesky locals.

A review is here: http://www.doshermanos.co.uk/2007/12/fox-anchor-and-la-plaza-post-christmas.html

Sunday Roast DInner (Not Lunch) Near the Tower of London

If you are willing to travel then there are some good options for trad Sunday dining. Rules, The Goring Hotel and Simpsons come to mind but the trouble is they will blow your budget by some way.

Sunday Roast DInner (Not Lunch) Near the Tower of London

Can I please apologise for suggesting a Weatherspoons. They really are pretty grim but I was struggling to think of any pub/restaurant/anything that might be open in the area.

Long shot, might be worth checking here http://www.fullershotels.com/rte.asp?id=13

The website is not clear about the restaurant times. Can't vouch for the food but the beer's pretty good.

Sunday Roast DInner (Not Lunch) Near the Tower of London

The Gun is a pretty good (gastro)pub but an utter sod to get to/from by public transport.

The area around The Tower is a bit of a restaurant wasteland I'm afraid, particularly on a Sunday night. You might try Ramsay's The Narrow but you'll need to check their menu. Easy ride from there to Tower Hill but only if the DLR is not taking one of it's frequent weekend holidays.

The Weatherspoon's pub chain (there's a couple in the area) do a version of trad Sunday lunch/dinner, but again need to check menus/opening hours/reviews.

If any others come to mind I'll post here.

Sunday roasts [London]

Can't comment personally on any of these recs but Charles Campion opines here.

Sunday roasts [London]

Can't disagree with any of Robin's choices but check out a couple more. The Goring Hotel will be pretty local to you and is rather spiffing (and a bit of a bargain). Might also check out the Anchor & Hope in Southwark which has (or at least it did) a set menu on Sundays and is (was) the only sitting that could be reserved. Sorry to be vague, but if they have a website I can't find it.
WARNING: do not confuse the A&H with The Anchor down on the Thames.

Sunday roasts [London]

Piece of string really. Do you want posh or pub?

Mistake in Jermyn Street, London.

It's even worse than that! 48 quid gets you (from memory) a choice of three dishes at each course, bottled water (should you want it), coffee and petite fours. Outrageous!

one month in battersea [London]

You might like to give the author of this blog a knock. He's a Battersea resident.

Second Business Trip to London- The City

Keeping it local, one choice would be Francesco Mazzei's L'anima, just behind the Broadgate development. Up-market and plenty of reviews online. You might also check out Eyre Brothers a bit further towards Old Street.

it says in this here OFM.

It's just off St John Street, the bit north of the Clerkenwell Road.

Trip to Cornwall -- Also Dorking

Close Phil, it's BinTwo.

Tayyabs ?

Don't disregard the restaurant at the Apex (especially as they always seem to have their own/Toptable/Opentable offers available. Not bad at all on my couple of visits. Don't think it is open at weekends 'tho (in common with many City places).

Tayyab's is what Tayyab's is; eat early and try to book (good luck if it's a Fri/Sat night). If you have a particular need re your comfort then let them know in advance, best not to 'phone in the middle of lunch or dinner service.

Biltong in London or online?

There's a Saffa shop (a bit incongruently) where Commercial Road hits Aldgate. Certainly sells the usual dried meats and a very fine SA tomato sauce.

SA rugby replica kit also available!

Albion/Boundary - anyone been yet? (Shoreditch)

I haven't, but the elder Hermano has (albeit for their first service):

Bakery in the City?

That's the one. Thanks.

Bakery in the City?

There's Konditor and Cook at the base of the Gherkin, not cheap tho'.

Le Pain Quotidien on Bread Street (not been).

The stuff from the various branches of Paul is not bad.

There's a branch of an artisan bakery on Carter Lane (they also have a branch at Borough Market) but I'm blanking on the name.

London: Fish n Chips - Without the Fish?

I'm not certain but I think that Master's Superfish have some non-fish options (sorry, I never get past the haddock and they don't seem to have a website). Think that the same people run the Chinese place next door (never been) so it shouldn't be too hard to source an alternative main course. Give 'em a call.

Dinner near Holborn

http://www.vanillablack.co.uk/index.php?section=evening may meet your needs, although I don't have enough knowledge of a vegan diet to know if the menu would offer enough choice (or, indeed, any). I'm sure they would answer a telephone enquiry.
