Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?

I would go to any Pitfire Pizza, for the big bucks Mozza, Gjenlina. For NY style, I still like Mulberry St.

Mediocre Bouchon

Sad, but true. So far, Bouchon food is run of the mill. Service great. Food very average at best. Who else agrees?

Best Fish and Chips?

I'm with J O'Groats. Paul does a nice job. Great batter, great fries and malt vin.

Le Pain Quotidien, West Hollywood

I LOVE LE PAIN QUOTIDIAN

I admit it. I love Le Pain Quotidian! You can criticize the dated pine décor straight out of a Brentwood one bedroom. You can also dish on the oppressive branding of everything from olives to chocolate sauce. You can even complain about the often inept service. However, even with all that, I must proclaim “I love Le Pain Quotidian!”

Considering Pain Quo, as I call it, is a chain restaurant, serving mostly fast food, I find it to be a pleasant location for almost any meal. Also, though the service can be inept and what fast casual isn’t, the staff , from management on down, really seem to care.

The food is reliable in the way a classic bistro can be. But even more so. You see Pain Quo has no pretentions at being anything other than what it is. At breakfast, you can enjoy the house made granola or soft boiled eggs. Lunchtime offers among others items, my favorite; the Tuscan platter; olive tapenade bathed in the greenest olive oil, sun dried tomatoes over undressed micro greens, tasty ricotta cheese and domestic prosciutto covered in flakes of parmesan cheese. For the sweet, a chocolate cookie the size of a volley ball. Any way you slice it, I love Le Pain Quotidian!

Good Eats in General Area of Beverly Hills

You do know Barney Greengrass is a restaurant from New York, right?

48 hours in San Fran

Here we go again. My annual 48 hours in San Fransisco. Please recommend restaurant and lunch in the city. Location and cost not a problem, so let it rip. Thank you in advance.

Best burger and beer in LA? (PJ Clark's in LA)

Funny.

CATER KIDS PARTY BUT CARE ABOUT ADULTS

I must cater my 6 yr old's pool party which must include fried chicken tenders. I also want edible food for the adults. It should be on a decent looking platter and would be great if they delivered. I live near Mulholland and Laurel. Ideas?

Foodiest Spots in L.A.

2 things, first LA mag can be "bought", they take advertisers and favor them so their tops are not tops (LA WEEKLY maybe) and Luques certainly does not plan their Sunday supper according to "whats fresh at the market". An in addition, on Sundays they give their servers off and only have bussers running the special which does not leave the most impressive dining experience.

Foodiest Spots in L.A.

i think you mean KVELLED. How snobby could she be if she is from Montana?

I need of Pasta Carbonara.

Dominick's, done the old fashioned way, with real panchetta, cream, egg, a la minute.

Foodiest Spots in L.A.

I am from NYC and have owned restaurants and eaten extensively in both cities and my humble opinion is that the only things LA has to offer that will be interesting to New Yorkers food wise is low key ethnic joints, Asian restaurants such as Vim for Thai, sushi Asanebo, Katsuya, (fill in your fave here) ( any LA sushi kicks NY's butt) same for low key Mex and of course La Seranatta di garabaldi (sp?) in Boyle Heights, Chinese in SGV ( but beware NY has the same chinese in Flushing Queens every bit as good if not better than SGV). Super LA fresh like Joe's or Jar or Fraiche. Luques is pretty basic for NY palate same for most French (there's one just as good on every corner in NYC) Same for Italian except Nancy's mozz bar. ( that is good even for NYers) Another area are scene places like Cut or Nobu (malibu or WH) which is worth going for even the most jaded out of towners. Also, what about great burgers? Even IN and OUT should be tried by ever out of towner. OR Apple Pan. Anyway, just some ramblings. Oh yeah the Reel Inn is worth going to, also.

Bar Pintxo

while you are free to like or dislike the food at Pinxto, one thing is certain, you really don't know what a spanish tapas bar is about. In spain, tapas is not free, it is prepared in advance and is made to serve as a snack. Perhaps you feel it is too expensive, but Pinxto is what it is, a pretty good approximation if a barcelona tapas bar.

Michelin Stars Out!!!

spotted pig is adventuresome food in a causal atmosphere, more in commion with Joe Miller. AOC is down tne center tapas. name something there that u haven't seen before. also, the menu is almost always the same.

Michelin Stars Out!!!

right.

Michelin Stars Out!!!

no survey is perfect by any means, but I must say, I am am a restaurant owner and know each of the restaurants both on and off the list that you mentioned and atleast as far as my piers are concerned it is pretty if not very good reflection of the LA food scene. Joe Miller many people think is one of the top chefs in town. especially industry people. For instance, while I am a fan of AOC, much less of Luques, despite the press, Suzanne is really a brasserie chef and will therefore not get a star. AOC is a tapas bar and also will never get a star. Right or wrong, my point is that the restaurant people feel this is a good list.

TOP 4 dinner recs under $60/pp???

The most obvious choice is sundays at Dominick's 3 course 15.00 prixe fixe with very drinkable wine for 10.00 a bottle. Since you don't drink the new sushi restaurant Itzaka-ya on 3rd St...even La terza also on 3rd.

Large table in Westchester or near by Conn. [moved from Manhattan board]

What do you all think about La Crémaillère in Bedford?

Large table in Westchester or near by Conn. [moved from Manhattan board]

Thank you all for great suggestions. I will follow up and let you all know where and how it was.

Large table in Westchester or near by Conn. [moved from Manhattan board]

I must plan a 70th Birthday for my father and need ideas for a fabulous but not too stuffy restaurant for 15 people. Money is not an issue. Any ideas? I have called Blue Hill which is an option but they don't seat over 8 in the main room. Help!!!!

Groceria and restaurant

These are nice suggestions. What I have in mind however, is a bit more of restaurant and not a cafeteria. Kitchen market is close to what I am seeking. I had not thought of them. I will try Despana. ALthough, I am a big fan of Kalustyan, it is too much of a cafetieria set-up. Perhaps, what I seek is very rare. I once went to a place in Queens (I can't remeber the name) that was an Italian market duing the day and a white table cloth restaurant at night. The house specialty was carbonara that was tossed in a hollowed out wheel of parmesan cheese. I was told a wine shop at the South St. seaport area with an Italian name was doing small bites and was a wine/fine food shop as well but I don't know the name. Any other suggestions?

Groceria and restaurant

Does anyone have any favorite groceria/restuarants in the metro area? The most obvious example is Manganero's on 9th Ave. I would prefer Italian, but any ethnicity would do.
