Good eats in SLC convenient to public transport.

My Yellowstone bus tour ends in SLC on Wednesday morning, August 10. While some folks head to the airport, I am staying in town an extra day to see the sights. That means one breakfast, lunch and dinner on my own. I won't have a car and so am dependant on public transport. I'll be staying downtown. Any good places to eat in that area or near a TRAX station or bus stop? I wouldn't want to travel too far afield, and would prefer plain (read, inexpensive) to fancy. Regional cooking would be a plus.

Where to eat near Heard Museum, Phoenix

Silverbear, I hear you loud and clear. As a New Yorker, I guess I just don't appreciate how hot it gets in Phoenix in August. I am going to take your advice and hit the DBG in the morning, and the Heard afterwards. At risk of being OT -- since you mention the bus -- what would be the best way to get from the DBG to the Heard by public transport? Thank you (and everyone else) for all the food tips.

Where to eat near Heard Museum, Phoenix

I'll be spending exactly ONE Sunday in Phoenix in August. In the morning I'll visiting the Heard Museum, have lunch and then head on over to the Desert Botanical Garden.

Is there any place near the Heard a chowhound could love? It must be within walking distance because I'll be on foot. I'd like to avoid a formal sit-down restaurant because I'll be by myself. Any place with a counter where you line up and order would be fine (as long as they have chairs!)

I'm sure the Museum's cafe is good, but I want to experience something special -- something unique to Phoenix.

Normally I'd make a beeline to the Fry Bread House, but that's closed on Sundays! : (

Frommer's recommends MacAlpine's ("the oldest operating soda fountain in the Southwest") Sounds good to me. Is it?

It doesn't have to be close by the Heard. If it's near a light rail stop that would be OK too.

Thanks!

Arnold Arboretum -- where to eat?

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I am travelling by the T and on a weekday, so the Dogwood is out, but thanks to you all I won't go hungry.

Arnold Arboretum -- where to eat?

I'll be visiting the AA in August and would like to have a light lunch nearby. Is there any place close enough that I can visit the AA, have a bite, and then go back in? It doesn't have to be a chowish destination -- just a sandwich shop or diner would do. Too bad AA doesn't have a cafe -- that would be perfect. (And no food or drink is allowed on the grounds -- so forget about a picnic, or even a sandwich on a bench.)

Has Danny's Seafood Palace sunk?

Sorry to hear it. I won't miss one bite of food, but it was still a nice place for a pre-theatre meal, and reasonably priced too. The last time I was there was December when we stopped in for a post-theatre cocktail and who should walk in but Celeste Holm -- dressed entirely in white. She warbled through a song at the piano to tumultuous applause, then left as abruptly as she came. It was that kind of place.

Has Danny's Seafood Palace sunk?

A friend of mine and I were planning to have our pre-theatre dinner at Danny's this Saturday night, but when he called to make a reservation the phone was disconnected. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

Good eggroll found on Flatbush

It is a few steps from the 7th Avenue Q and B station, on the east side of Flatbush near Park Place. Don't be put off by the Tex-Mex sign.

I haven't sampled enough of their standard Chinese fare to venture an opinion on their food in general, but I did like the egg rolls.

Good eggroll found on Flatbush

For those hungering for good eggrolls, I can recommend Wai Ling at 349 Flatbush. Their rolls are made the way I like them -- chock full of pork. They tend to be a bit greasy, but biting into one is pure pleasure.

How is it that so many Chinese takeout places have these awful eggrolls that seem to be stuffed with nothing but cabbage?
The only other place I know that has similar, meaty eggrolls is on Dekalb near Ashland (don't know the name). They must order them from the same manufacturer.

Does anyone else out there know a chinese takeout place in the nabe that has decent eggrolls?

Any vegetarian-friendly restaurants in PS besides Rose Water?

Really can't say. I didn't detect any sweetness in the mei fun and that's the only thing I've had in recent months. Must confess I like the thin strips of soy "meat" in the mei fun. Not sure I'd characterize that as sweet, though.

Any vegetarian-friendly restaurants in PS besides Rose Water?

I regularly take-out the Singapore Mei Fun and have enjoyed the Chicken Curry with Potatoes.

Any vegetarian-friendly restaurants in PS besides Rose Water?

It is Chinese-style and far from haute cuisine, but there is the Vegetarian Palate on Flatbush near 6th. I've taken out from there many times and it's pretty good -- though avoid the "orange chicken" -- the textured soy in this dish tastes like leaden hocky pucks.
