Pibb sightings?
Has anyone seen Mr. Pibb/Pibb Xtra cans or bottles for sale in MD or DC?
Can't find it anywhere...
passionfruit nectar in baltimore?
Update: before heading out to Asia Foods, I popped into my local Safeway...and Ceres brand passion fruit juice was sitting right there on the shelf.
passionfruit nectar in baltimore?
No luck at Lotte. :(
I tried H Mart while I was in the area...and I did find some sort of powdered drink mix. At both stores I did ask a few different people for help, but no dice.
I will try Asia Foods tomorrow. If you have any hints or tips on asking (is passionfruit referred to as something else?), please let me know.
passionfruit nectar in baltimore?
Crowsonguy,
Thanks so much for the help.
Searching around Fells Point has proven (passion) fruitless, will try Lotte next and report back.
passionfruit nectar in baltimore?
Desperately seeking as an essential cocktail ingredient - has anyone seen this?
Passionfruit syrup will work in a pinch, too.
Any help is greatly appreciated - thank you.
Spicy Chocolate Ice Cream
Pitango gelato has a spicy chocolate flavor as well - it's my favorite.
Milkshakes around Bmore
Is Ye Olde Malt Shop still around? I remember going for a milkshake last summer.
Balsamic Vinegar in Baltimore?
Have you tried Balducci's or Dean & Deluca?

Cinghiale
I went out to try Cinghiale with my favorite dining companion last night.
Seemed right to do with the prix fixe three course dinner. He had Kobe carpaccio with hazelnuts and I had mushrooms to start, for the pasta course he had gnocchi with braised goat and I tried the risotto Milanese (my favorite!) and our entrees were suckling pig for him and caramelized honey duck for me. Teeny tiny portions, thankfully. We didn't order a bottle of wine to go with the meal; as it's too much for me - I guess a side benefit is avoiding the server's pour mentioned above.
We finished off the night with drinks and dessert - a couple of scoops of homemade icy things: marscapone gelato and Concord grape sorbet.
The pasta course was the strongest, maybe because it's so easy to differentiate between really well executed pasta (which this was) and...not. Service was impeccable, too. Our candle went out and within 3 seconds someone was over to discreetly replace it. Foreman was seen making the rounds all night, but did not stop by our table.
Overall it was a pleasant meal. We'd go back.
Baltimore Help
Petit Louis in Roland Park? Although it can get a little loud when it's busy....I've had some lovely meals there.

Restaurant Week Gratuities
I absolutely tip at regular menu prices. The food is discounted, and (hopefully) not the service.
Baltimore RW reviews
Well, I think the objective of Restaurant Week was accomplished - I hadn't been to Nasu Blanca before, but I'll happily return now!
Baltimore RW reviews
Yes! Our Black Olive entree sides were wilted, overdressed lettuce leaves and a few new potato halves. I didn't mind the salmon, as it seemed very fresh to me.
Your experience with service there sounds terrible. I guess we must have lucked out - our server was very professional.
Baltimore RW reviews
I think the threads have so far been for one RW restaurant experience at a time.
Decidedly underwhelmed by dinner at Corks. Food was good, yes - but for our meal, nothing approached greatness. My dining partner struck out, but my monkfish was okay.
Lunch at Black Olive was quite nice - the only downfall was uninspired entree sides. Everything else was superb. (Apps: traditional spreads, grilled calmari stuffed with feta, Entrees: salmon, kabob of the day - which was rockfish)
Dinner at Nasu Blanca was my favorite, with everything 'regular menu'-perfect. (Apps: mussels, japanese eggplant; Entrees: walu + paella)
Brit import food in Baltimore?
Chowhounders,
Thank you so much for these good suggestions - websites and otherwise. I haven't been to Wegman's in ages - completely slipped my mind!
What a helpful group we have here.
Brit import food in Baltimore?
I miss my Jaffa Cakes and Hob Nobs. And real Cadbury, and teas...the list could go on.
Has anyone seen a good imported foods store that has such things?
Baltimore City is best, but I'd be willing to drive.
Jack's Bistro
I love this place. The smoked gouda grits - yowza. Great staff, inventive menu. It's one of my favorite date night places. Probably best if your date is a foodie, too.
Downtown Baltimore Market on Sundays
I tried the Quinoa last week too. Might be a new favorite! I've liked the mushroom stand for a long time. The pita sandwich falls apart - the pita just can't take all the stuffings.
My other farmer's market vices are the kettle corn and the veggie spring rolls at the thai (?) stand close to the mushroom stand.
Oh, and the soft serve hidden inside the cheese trailer is out of this world good.
Has anyone been to Taste at Belvedere recently?
The grilled Caesar was pretty tasty. But unfortunately, that was it.
The rest of our dinner was 'meh', and the service was some of the worst I've had anywhere.
Pie??? in Baltimore
Dangerously Delicious makes a wonderful cherry pie. Should be available now, too.
It's a 25 dollar pie, but it's also the best I've had.
Three... new place in Baltimore. I dig it.
I think I overheard someone saying that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
By the way, I went last night for dinner (which was very good), and had the most wonderful dessert. The chef offered both Rodney's Pies (Dangerously Delicious) and his own coeur a la creme. I chose the latter since I just bought a DDP cherry pie this week.
Oh my. It was transcendent. So light, yet rich, with a dusting of chocolate shavings. I LOVED this, and will definitely return for more!
Three... new place in Baltimore. I dig it.
Thanks for the update. Can't wait to check this place out.
Good Recs for Baltimore- Upper Fells Point / Fells Point
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Pub grub: I like to go to Henninger's and grab an app or something off their bar menu for a more casual dinner.
Also, Waterfront Hotel has a popular $10 entree night on Tuesdays. I've had tasty food at Duda's and One Eyed Mike's, too.
If you're around for lunch, I've been pretty happy with the buffet at Mehek.
For more upscale: Every once in a while I'll grab a couple of my favorite tapas at Mezze, if I feel like putting up with the 'tude. And love to splurge on Salt every once in a while.
Salt--Baltimore
Went last night. New menu was launched on Thursday.
Loved the new morel mushroom app. Also the lamb porterhouse. Both fantastic.
Other items tried last night were the squash blossom app and the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. Both were pretty good, just not as good as the above-mentioned items.
(An aside - The pork tenderloin showed the kitchen had a sense of humor -- it's really a riff on breakfast. There was a definite taste of maple syrup on the bacon, the Yukon gold potatoes were done home-fry style, and there was a quail egg black eyed susan. Interesting, but I'd recommend the two items I mentioned first over it.)
Good cake in Baltimore or Columbia, MD area?
I just had a fantastic slice of cake this weekend...from Golden West in Hampden.
Never thought to try their cake before....but I was very impressed.
Favorite Grocery Shopping in Baltimore?
+1 for Han Au Reum. That place rocks.
I really love the Sunday farmer's market, too.
Transparent Pie or Tarts
If it's another term for chess pie, Dangerously Delicious in Fed Hill has those.
They also have something called a Full Custom Custard that could be similar to what you're looking for, too.
WOKVILLE - the best of (asian cuisine)
Thanks for these great posts!
(If this is the DJ, great music.)
